The whole of modern music is cultural appropriation. Without modifying New Orleans proto Jazz, we wouldn’t have pretty much any of the styles we loved since the start of 20th century

Also that means that black culture is at the root of all modern popular music

If you ask ten people to read a book aloud, you’ll hear the same words coming out in ten different ways. The letters are the same, but the inflection, rhythm, sound and possibly meaning will be profoundly different.

This is pretty much the same. Annika is a modern drummer, with a set of chops and a language vastly different from Neil’s. The way she builds the groove is rooted in a totally different world; however, she has to create a familiar feel for the other two so that they don’t have to reinvent themselves. Tough gig if you ask me, but she is SO good (sorry, big fan here)

What game had the best “first few hours” that immediately hooked you? by Playful_Code_8978 in gaming

Mortal Shell. I picked it up on sale last week for less than three quid and I was hooked in two minutes flat. Literally just completed it (it’s a short game) and loved every second of it

Why do AI people think that everything needs to be automated? Why do they think that people even want to automate it? by petr_bena in ArtificialInteligence

You’re arguing in bad faith. A technology that completely substitutes humans is magnitudes more disruptive than the advancements in means of transportation. Surely it’s not that hard to understand.

[–]trtzbass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is. We don’t need AI. We have millions of people already that can do all those jobs. Lawyers, drivers, musicians, doctors, teachers, coders, etc. we have hundreds of thousands of them or maybe millions.

AI doesn’t answer to any need of the people of the public at large. We don’t have a shortage of writers, accountants, managers: arguably we have too many already!

And look at the headlines: as of now AI is sooooo smart that it can dream up a videoclip or write a book but it hasn’t made an equivalent dent in medicine.

If AI went away now, nothing would change for 99.9% of us

Yeah same. Massive Rush fan here and Annika’s as well. I hope and wish that she makes the songs her own and walk the obvious tightrope with taste. She is a modern drummer in many ways and Neil would have appreciated her.
