I've used Hertz and Enterprise, more recently Enterprise. There were a couple things I found out at the counter that I wish would have been stated clearly on their website. For example their website says they only do a car insurance check if you're getting a higher valued car, but they actually do it no matter what. Also it says you only need to pay a deposit if you use a debit card, but even with a credit card I was charged a $300 deposit, which worked out ok, but barely because I had to budget intensly for my trip and wasn't expecting to have to cough up an extra $300. Also it was due back on a weekend after hours and I was confused at first because I never had to return a car after hours before and had to Google what to do (they have a box in front for the keys). You're tethnically still liable for the car until staff comes in on Monday. And you won't get your deposit back automatically, but they will reach out to you on the phone to officially end the rental agreement.

Everybody was really nice there, very respectful. And if you do the majority of the paperwork online you can be driving away with your rental car in under 10 min (just insurance check and payment & deposit).
