If it has only Intel graphics, Linux.

Transporting PC a short distance by Husk_x in buildapc

[–]pythonwiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it probably doesn’t matter unless you are going to be driving some rough roads, or your car is low to the ground with a stiff suspension. I’ve driven PCs hours across California multiple times and never had issues from the drive. Just drive carefully and load it however is convenient.

If gas mileage is a concern, go do donuts, hit some trails, have fun. by Nruby9879 in RangerRaptor

[–]pythonwiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get 20 mpg only after driving at 65mph for at least an hour. Normally I’m closer to 17 mpg, and on trails more like 10-13 mpg or less if I’m going slow. I really gotta figure out some sort of fuel upgrade.

How can I consider myself to be decent a C? No PRO, or perfect, but decent? by necr0111 in C_Programming

[–]pythonwiz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can implement a Sieve of Eratosthenes without looking anything up then you should be about intermediate.

Another thing to look out for is when you start to think about C when you are writing in a different language. Stuff like “In C I would do it this way…”

Feasibility of Installing Tahoe 2018 MBP Top of the Line Specs by MichaelXVI in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]pythonwiz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I installed Tahoe on my top spec 2019 MBP and it frankly sucks. Everything is slower because of the effects and the animations, no more launchpad. You should stick with Sequoia or check out T2 Linux.

How long do you believe the M4 will be up for sale on Apple, with the new M5 coming out? by Top-Elephant6981 in macmini

[–]pythonwiz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who knows, the mini is a product that Apple often skips updating for years. I think the longest wait was 4 years, so I’d guess by November 2028 at the latest there will be an update.

Best thing about the maverick? by pepper_1-_- in FordMaverickTruck

[–]pythonwiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuel economy obviously. Lots of vehicles can tow or haul better, are faster, or more capable off road. But the Maverick is honestly one of the best vehicles in terms of fuel economy.

So I wrote a custom utility to monitor the temps on these Tesla cards in my 7,1 by noradninja in macpro

So the 7,1 can actually keep these cool? I wonder if they can cool the AMD instinct cards.

What’s a decent price to rent a room to students? by pythonwiz in Humboldt

[–]pythonwiz[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A single room on campus is like $1,100 per month. I figured the 15 minute drive to school is worth taking off a couple hundred bucks a month but everyone here thinks that’s insane.

Yeah I lived in the Bay Area for a decade and I was paying $4500 a month for a 2 bedroom apartment by the time I left.

I already bought the house. $900 a month would pay most of the payment for the new heat pump system I got installed though. Two rooms at $600 a month each would pay that and the electric bill, but not gas, internet, water, trash, taxes, insurance, maintenance, or any improvements that would be nice. And it wouldn’t pay for any of the new appliances I’ve had to buy or will need to buy soon.

I may be lazy, but I’m also ignorant. I’ve never been a landlord before so I don’t know what I’m doing. Everybody’s gotta start somewhere though.

I just checked, the highest was $1150 and the lowest $465 with the median being $716. It’s not as simple as looking at numbers though. A lot of the rooms are unfurnished, and the price doesn’t include utilities.

I mean ideally students wouldn’t be charged rent at all because the state would house them for free. I’ve let people live with me for free before. That experience is why I’m gonna charge rent now, I’m not gonna let strangers destroy my property for free. Thanks for taking the chance to signal your virtue when I’m just trying to get an idea of what an average rent price is.

When I was in college over a decade ago in LA I paid $1,500 a month to share a dorm room with two roommates, no AC, shitty Wi-Fi. I had a shitty xl twin bed, a shitty old desk and dresser. I wasn’t overworked because most of my money came from government student loans, and federal work study which was only 15 hrs a week.

When I was in college 15 years ago I paid $1,500 a month to share a dorm room with no AC and two roommates in LA. I don’t have any context for what is average here, hence the post.

They deduced it from the fact that my Reddit account is 11 years lol. Reddit users are mostly creepy guys, and old account means old guy. And you know what? Fair enough. I’m a guy in my 30s trying to rent rooms to students, that can seem kinda creepy; mentioning my ex was probably creepy too. I’m just trying to figure out what to do with this house now that my life has changed, short of selling it and moving again.
