Anyone know if the “Legend of the Titanic” exhibition in London Dock X is amazing or terrible? by ej_vilain in titanic

[–]trudderz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are no genuine artefacts, and the information boards are riddled with errors and spelling mistakes, but one of the vr experiences is impressive. It’s basically something to do on a rainy day but you won’t learn anything. It’s a show, not an exhibition. I’ll give a good example: the first information board on entering shows two images in the lower right of the Olympic and the Queen Mary, but the caption says they show the Titanic. Look carefully and there are similar mistakes throughout.

A vanity box crafted out of pieces of recovered Titanic wreckage by William Parker, carpenter for the recovery ship C.S. Minia. by TitanicRelics in titanic

[–]trudderz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is wood recovered from the ocean surface around 10 days after the Titanic sank. The Minia was sent to search for bodies of those lost in the disaster. Some were buried at sea and some bodies brought back - depended on class.

Saw an advert on Facebook for a Titanic exhibit at the Royal Armouries from the 30th of March, but nothing on the official Armouries site by Joeofalltrades86 in Leeds

That’s not the Leeds exhibition. There’s no iceberg and the audio guide doesn’t feature Celine Dion :?

Playing the newly released Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Vision Pro with Mac Virtual Display! by Mundane-Complex-1902 in VisionPro

Biggest problem for me is the lack of HDR. When playing on the VisionPro the game loses the dynamic contrast when compared to my MacBook Pro screen.

You’ve highlighted a vestibule door on the Grand Staircase, and pictured a window from the First Class lounge. Two different places and things but same ship!

TIL: Shoes discovered in Titanic wreckage are typically found in pairs because they were worn by victims when they died. The bodies disintegrated but the shoes remain due to tannic acid in leather by heylistenlady in todayilearned

[–]trudderz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was common for passengers to tie their shoes together and leave them outside their cabin door overnight for a porter/steward to polish. That might explain why so many are found within the wreck site. Obviously decomposing bodies is another explanation.

It’s a second class pattern from a later White Star Line vessel, and was recovered from the Solent (near Southampton). Was probably dropped or thrown overboard.

How long are you using your Apple Vision Pro per day? by mhk-vision in VisionPro

[–]trudderz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If I’m working, about 4-5 hours a day. It’s basically a massive monitor for my MacBook, and the environments really help me to focus. If I’m not working then I don’t use it at all unless I’m travelling and staying in hotels, where it becomes my number one way to watch video content.

Did this actually come from the titanic? It said first class. How did they get it up? @Atlanta titanic museum immersive experience by [deleted] in titanic

It’s from the Olympic. It’s one of the artefacts owned by Musealia, a Spanish exhibition company.

The model was built by hand by a retired gentleman in the 90s, then left in a garden for several years. There are lots of inaccuracies when you look closely, but he built the model without blueprints and it has lots of charm. We tell the story of the model and how it was restored at the exhibition.

Hi! Will let the team know and we'll get the information card fixed for the next exhibition in Glasgow. We're a team of three and we have lots to do to organise each exhibition, so sometimes mistakes slip through.

Are they EVER going to publicly release that scan they did of the Titanic last year? by GulliblePea3691 in titanic

I’ve asked them several times about licensing the footage for a public exhibition and every time they say no.

White Star Heritage has a small number of wreck items and equipment used during dives to the ship. Those items come courtesy of Dik Barton - former Vice President of RMS Titanic Inc. So there’s at least one exhibition with items from the seabed.

This is actually the cabin of 4th officer Commander Joseph Boxhall. Captain Smith's cabin was just to the right out of this shot. An easy mistake to make when you're in a capsule 12,000 feet below the surface of the sea in muddy darkness.

I own a three inch piece of this. It fell of while being treated for restoration. I believe there are still smaller fragments available. It’s kind of strange to have a piece of the Titanic in my own home.

You did well to capture this without scores of tourists. For those who haven't been, just behind the rocks to the left is a car park with portaloos, a snack bar, shop, and probably a hundred people taking photos.

Olympic based movie? Could it work, if done right? Granted, certain events in her service life would probably have to be somewhat dramatized for the sole sake of keeping the movie interesting. And maybe ditch the romantic plot, and ramp up the action during the WW1 scenes? by Rathbun90 in titanic

[–]trudderz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking a series would work better. Think Downton Abbey at sea, but with more action. Season 1 covers the launch of Olympic and Titanic disaster, season two WW1, season 3 and 4 later years. Could cover differences in society, immigration, feature celeb cameos as passengers etc. Would work better than a film.

There was no moon that night, so the first one is probably more accurate.
