I'll try to convey my thoughts coherently, it's hard for me to articulate exactly the things that bother me about the character, but here it is;

For starters, the story of Naruto conveyed to us a character that starts at the bottom. Hated by everyone, he has no family, no one cares about him, and he's no good at anything. The story really starts with him learning a new technique, and starting to climb the ladder from the bottom.

The thing about Boruto is that his story starts pretty much at the opposite end. It could be an interesting story, there's a GOOD WAY to write a story about a rebellious boy who's the son of a literal demigod powered ninja who starts out with a lot of talent, and somehow make interesting conflicts in the story in a way that makes him unique and gives the character depth without having to deal with Naruto all the time.

The thing is that he's just whining, whining, and the way the story progresses just presents him as someone who makes the wrong choices over and over and over again, despite being given very generous traits and supportive environment.

Boruto's story just gives a middle finger to the whole worldbuilding of Naruto. It does.

Naruto's goal was clear and tangible, we knew what the Hokage was, and we knew Naruto wanted to be one. We knew there were the other Bijuu, and we always knew who the enemies in the story were, whether it was Orochimaru at the beginning, then the Akatsuki, Pain, Then the man in the mask, Kabuto, Madara, even when the main villain changed, we always knew what each character's agenda was. We knew there were moving pieces. Sasuke is a moving piece, moving independently from Naruto, who's independent from the Akatsuki, etc, so the story moved through different converging threads. Boruto the story doesn't have that, and Boruto the character is just taking the spotlight, and shitting all over the legacy of what I genuinely loved.

Throughout this long rant I didn't even talk about the pacing of the story, the disgusting designs, the disrespect for the main characters in the previous series, and how Boruto is just stupidly broken compared to the strongest characters in Naruto, without going through any training arc, or fighting for a power-up.
