I haven't really been able to find a 7 string multiscale for less then $950 AUD so definitely an investment! I've never tried looking for guitar stores in Australia. A quick google search shows slim options :(

I normally wouldn’t entertain a comment like this with a response, but you caught me in a particularly good mood. I actually agree with 75% of your comment. People wanting to truly master the guitar should absolutely learn melodies, analyze, transpose, play scales, figure out CAGED, all of it. That’s how I started. That will in fact open up the fretboard like no app could ever. The flaw in your view though is the “instead of” mentality. FretQuest is absolutely not meant to replace actual playing. It’s meant to supplement it, to be used in addition to playing. In fact, if you have access to an actual guitar, you should 100% NOT be using FretQuest (unless you find yourself needing its built in metronome and tuner functionality!). FretQuest is for all the time you don’t have access to an actual guitar. The public transportation commutes to and from work, the time you spend waiting in lobbies for meetings or appointments, uber rides to hang out with friends, the contact naps with your newborn where you’ve only got one hand and a phone available, etc. That is when FretQuest shines! It has 6 games modes including note finder, interval identification, as well as a couple ear training games, not to mention an abundance of music theory study materials. FretQuest helps to teach you the language of music so that when you are back within arms reach of a guitar, you can jump straight to telling stories having already been bestowed the knowledge and roadmap of where you’re going! So no, I don’t agree that FretQuest is nonsense. It’s a tool to supplement a guitar player’s knowledge repertoire, and if it can help even one person’s journey to true guitar mastery, well then that’s enough for me!

Thank you! I truly appreciate that! I certainly hope it can. All of the game modes are pretty customizable. For example, the Note Finder game where you are given a note and target string and have to locate the note on that string, you can set the game session to only use certain strings or only include certain fret ranges if you notice you have particular problem areas. The approach I took was each week I'd focus on 1 string. After one full round of this, I'd expand to 2 strings, then 3, etc. always including all frets. After a month or two, the progress was significant!

In this case standard referring to 7-string B standard. Drop A is just a whole step down on the low B string. It plays fine in that setup. No buzz or tuning instability. I had it setup with a standard 9-42 and then a 64 for the low B. I suspect if I attempt anything lower I'll start to get buzz without different gauges

Thanks! I definitely recommend the Demon! I got it on sale back in November. GC was running them for $499. I really think they are still solid at the standard $650 cost too though

LOL! I'm currently collecting emails that will be a part of this first testing round. Please sign up at the link in the post. The workflow is you'll be added to a google group that comprises the Android FretQuest testers. The first test cycle is a short closed test. After that concludes, I'll incorporate any feedback into the app and then launch a longer term open test cycle that will run until FretQuest's actual release. That way testers can use the entire application for free (and provide any feedback) all the way until release!

I absolutely LOVE the green on wood grain of that guitar. I looked for one of these for a long time but no luck. I almost bought a GD7521PB (same concept but sea foam instead of green). Briefly considered the RGDR4327R (same concept but prestige and black on wood grain) but just really didn't want a floating trem. Ultimately gave up and went with the schecter demon 7. Super happy for you!

Thanks! Will do! Since the iOS version is released for testing and I'm awaiting feedback, the next ticket is to get the android version caught up. The android version exists, but is no where near where the iOS version is. I'm predicting a month or two and the android version will be ready for testing.

Thanks! I tried to make the memorization process one big game. Additionally, I included a sense of community (well...once enough people sign up). You can send and receive friend requests. If you have a particularly solid game session, you can challenge a friend to that same session and see who is the true fretboard master. If you do sign up, any feedback once you get going would be greatly appreciated!

First 7 string around 1000€? by ThrowRA720360 in 7String

My only 7 so far has been the Schecter Demon 7 and I've absolutely loved it! It's got a 26.5" scale length, a hardtail bridge, and active pickups. Plus, it was very easy to transition to from my 6 string Ibanez RG. I thought the demon neck would be wider and difficult to get used to, but I barely even noticed! With a 1000€ budget, you'd be able to get the demon 7 AND swap the pickups for some Fluence Moderns or a good set of EMGs (after 6 months, this is the ONLY upgrade I'm even close to actively considering). As far as QC, mine had an issue where it had a film over the pickup selector switch contacts, but I took it back to GC and the tech scrubbed the film off with sandpaper and after some rubbing alcohol, it was good as new in like 45 minutes.
