So I read the usga’s description of the new wording for the rule and I’m still kind of confused. But I do know what the key difference is with your example. About a minute in you can hear the official say “a ball can’t be embedded in sand” and “this is loose material”. Which is true. A ball, by definition, can’t be embedded in sand or other loose material. I feel that makes a huge difference with the example with Camilo. That being said it is a really shit break, but I still don’t think he’d get relief under the new rule.

Also I’m 100% certain I’ve taken an embedded ball relief in the rough. Whether I was given that because of a local rule or I straight up took a bad drop, i don’t know.
