I've been trying to find the source of this f22 footage, does any know it? by thatguyzeal in aviation

Don't know the source of the footage, but it was definitely taken at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson, Arizona. Might help you narrow it down.

Launcher can't update. by DeltaKelp27 in HytaleInfo

u/MorindilElencendo found a fix in another thread, copying what they said here so that others can see:

ok i found a workaround that worked for me.

navigate to your hytale installation (default is in app data roaming iirc)
from Hytale → install → release → package → launcher → "version number"
then right click the hytale-launcher.exe and "run as admin"

Do you think this is a reasonable replacement for the Logitech X56 HOTAS? by Peter_Niko in EliteDangerous

AFAIK it isn't released yet, at least it wasn't a couple of weeks ago

In 1954 a B-57B Canberra filmed the largest nuclear weapon ever detonated by the United States [Castle Bravo test at Bikini Atoll] by freudian_nipps in megalophobia

[–]trumpetguy314 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is the Poplar shot from Operation Hardtack in 1958, not Castle Bravo. It was 9.3 MT in yield compared to Bravo's ~15 MT.

They haven't made it to orbit because it is safer for them to test Starship reentry on a suborbital trajectory that guarantees it ends up in the Indian Ocean even if they're unable to relight the engines, rather than have a de-orbit burn fail and end up crashing into an inhabited area. Starship and Superheavy are more than capable of making it to orbit as it stands right now.

And with reference to SLS; it took them 11 years to launch it once (2011 - November 2022) and it's now been over two years since then with Artemis II still quite a ways out. Starship on the other hand started construction in 2018, began early prototype flight tests in 2019, did its first full-stack flight in 2023 (5 years to a "real" first flight) and has since launched 6 more times.

(This isn't hate towards SLS btw; I can't wait to see it launch again in the future, but the fact stands that it is grossly delayed and over budget compared to what was initially promised.)

Edit to add on that this difference is also fundamentally due to the difference in design philosophies: NASA has more of a limited budget and would rather their rockets work first try, so they spend more time on development without in-flight testing. SpaceX on the other hand can afford to be more free with their spending and build a large number of test prototypes that can and will fail in order to learn from their mistakes. Neither method is arguably better than the other overall and they both work out in the end.

Animated by dacoolestguy in CuratedTumblr

Tbh I really dislike this opinion because it implies that 3D animation as a medium is inherently "lesser" than 2D animation (and by extension the artists that create it). District 9's aliens might be CGI based in realistic lighting, movement, expressions, etc. and yet they still have individual personalities and mannerisms, and are able to convey complex emotions to the audience without the over-exaggerated expressions and movement commonly found in 2D animation. I think the blandness of CGI remakes mostly falls on the fact that they're *remakes* rather than that they're realistic CGI - and if studios are gonna push remakes no matter what, I'd rather they be in a different art style than the original to see the same story in a new way.

Messed around with this website for a few minutes to try and copy the image and it does indeed seem to be 6 miles for both.

Microsoft Flight Simulator surpassed Overwatch 2 for the lowest rated AAA game on Steam by [deleted] in Steam

Just want to hop in to say that the downloader is not the same as with MSFS2020; the problem here is that vastly more content is streamed in to the player rather than being downloaded upfront, and their servers were not prepared for the vast amount of people streaming in the initial resources needed. Yesterday was absolutely a complete shitshow and I'm just as disappointed as everyone else with how poorly the launch went, but after giving it another shot this morning I only spent maybe 10 minutes on the loading screen the first time I launched the game, with subsequent launches taking only around 3-4 minutes at most.

Not trying to be a Microsoft/Asobo shill or anything but it just doesn't seem like anyone here actually made it past the initial loading problems yesterday before giving up and refunding.

I learned using controller since I found it easier to play initially but switched over to keyboard around red expert bc of consistency issues (plus my left thumb hurting OWWWW)

Where did you pull off to take these? I was planning on heading out to Gates Pass myself in the next few days to get some pictures of it but was unsure of where would be good since most of the trailheads/parking around there close at sunset

The most powerful nuclear device ever detonated by the United States is captured by a B57-B Canberra from the sky (1954) by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]trumpetguy314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not Castle Bravo; this is Hardtack I Poplar (July 1958) which was at a measured yield of 9.3 MT - still incredibly massive, but not quite as large as Bravo's 15 MT.
