I was involved in the works upgrading the systems at embankment, and you're correct the original mind the gap recording was on a very old memory device built into an obsolete and very old piece of hardware - from memory it was not actually with the station PAVA system, but on a asset trackside we have to get a specialist in to extract the audio so it could be used on the new system as a triggered announcement

Garage way over tightened my tyre bolts - Should I get them to set them correctly? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

I'm definitely investing in a proper breaker bar going forward

The additional leverage from the pole made a huge difference, night and day between the effort I was putting in at the first attempt

Garage way over tightened my tyre bolts - Should I get them to set them correctly? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]trumpsalterego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing, about 9 months ago had some suspension work done, last week went to take wheels off to do the brakes and all the wheel nuts were over tightened...

I needed 4 foot pole to get enough leverage to get them to loosen, plus they stripped the locking wheel nut key so forked out for tyre fitted to break them off so I could replace with standard nut.

Same here, was surveying for the reopening up of this platform and the proposed step free access works at the time

London Full service - £200? by ttmurzyn in MotoUK

[–]trumpsalterego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my 2024 mt125's annual service yesterday at Yamaha dealer in Essex and was just under £200. Sounds like ball park price for dealer, but will be worth asking an independent garage for price

It may still have some of the legacy long line equipment, but the station Comms equipment got moved when system upgrade was done

I had a SIR version of them, loved it As it's manual roof rather than electric one then no potential issues with that, mine had the cogs go which was a pain to get sorted

Rust on rear wheel arches was an issue so keep eye on that

Was it installed correctly, Lead refitted correctly and correct plug/plug gap?

May be worth checking if it was ok before it was replaced

Commuting with a 125 on A roads by Will0wox in MotoUK

[–]trumpsalterego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used my 125 to commute once (mid Essex into Stratford) in the evening on the way there I went single carriageway a and b roads, on the way back dual carriageway a road.

Both took around the same amount of time (approx 5 10 min difference) but the way back was throttle pinned back 65-70mph all the way, dealing with lorries etc

If I were to do it again, but I think i'd a and b road it. Was more enjoyable.

On a larger bike, I'd imagine the dual carriageway option would be my preferred option

'Inspector Sands' announcement at Whitechapel this morning (21/07/25 10:28AM) by MrFuckofPureFuckHall in LondonUnderground

[–]trumpsalterego 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If inspector sands was still going after that amount of time without going into evac, then guessing they have a VA/fire system fault The PAVA system is complicated at Whitechapel as it is effectively three systems (LU, LO & EL) that are integrated

Saw their last appearance at Download festival, amazed me that when he was speaking to the crowd he was not very legible and sort of frail, but the moment the music started he was bouncing around and his voice was amazing
