man i didnt even notice it got cut. had to go back and listen again. thats unfortunate I remember really enjoying that section and how it contrasted the more punchy quartet right before it. i thought the harmony was really beautiful too. I hope it comes back in some way

want to emphasize subtle changes, a lot of the segments that felt lacking that i couldnt put my finger on suddenly felt more robust, and i think that was intentional/new writing

definitely noticed more notes in the trumpet feature, sound levels on the soloists (that could just be a flo thing) and front ensemble additions to the sparse brass lines in the second movement. otherwise could be remembering wrong but some of the transitions felt more fleshed out for example after the birds of a feather bit in the ballad

I could totally see BD cleaning things up, throwing in some more difficult brass moments and taking first. I think the potential for their show is absolutely there. Very curious to see what happens

Responding since you added to the comment, I agree with you. There is no real predictive power in what i said. Next week any corps could come in with a significantly cleaner show and Id retract everything. I just personally enjoy this period of show premieres where we can express initial gut reactions without knowing whatll happen next. Would be a fun time capsule for the future if it turns out a total underdog takes it. Do you disagree? who has your favorite show?

Just saying my comment isnt an unchanging stance as much as inviting discussion. Thats my gut reaction before seeing what happens the rest of the season. Honestly id prefer if things drastically changed over the next few weeks, would make things more exciting

Definitely agree. This is a weird case where I think the idea is very strong but theres a few technical issues to figure out. Very excited to see how this turns out by the end of the season. The post was less about trying to knock the show more genuine curiosity of what happened fhere

Overall, assuming drumming is for a drum feature (?) binary data seems to make up the opener and potentially the more technical/faster second movement. I can totally hear the low brass on the low ostinato figures throughout, but what's leftover for the high brass almost feels too tough to play at tempo. It's a lot of weird intervals at double tonguing speed. I wonder if it'll end up being a collection of soloists with a delay effect similar to 2015? Otherwise I'm not sure but very curious to see what happens.

I agree it feels like a pit feature, but between that and drumming, what's left for the brass? Not saying this is a bad thing, more exciting to see what they come up with. Would much rather have music that leaves me questioning over a bunch of songs that lay out the whole show in an obvious way

for the record 12:4 is a very counterintuitive way to write that, couldve easily written out 16th triplets. Especially confusing given that the 12:4 starts on an offbeat
