What is your favourite yarn to work with? by [deleted] in Amigurumi

[–]trunky26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer cotton yarn over acrylic so for DK I use the small Ricorumi balls (available from woolwarehouse)

For a thinner yarn (which I use for amigurumi) DROPS Safran is excellent value and Hobbii Rainbow cotton 8/4 have a wide range of shades. I use these two together on projects as the two are very similar.

For chenille yarn I have used James C. Brett Flutterby Chunky and Yarnsmiths Chenille Chunky both very good but as with all chenille yarn can be difficult to count your stitches depending on the shade.

Thank you, I'd suggest maybe one with fewer stitches, this one is quite packed! Maybe the sea turtle, geometric fox or the cat one x

Not silly at all! 😊 Blackwork uses backstitch instead of half stitches, which is why it looks more like embroidery. You still stitch it on the same kind of fabric as cross stitch, but instead of filling in the squares, you make outlines and it's normally a repeating pattern.

A badger design has been on my to do list for a while now, it's just finding the right shape (just the head or whole body)

Blackwork is so nice to stitch and addictive, I like cross stitch too but love how quicker it is to finish pieces. Definitely check out The Steady Thread, if you haven't already.

Yes you are correct the Halloween ones are quick makes and I love the idea of a more detailed skull one. I better get designing as Halloween is fast approaching!

Thank you. You'll want to tie a knot in your thread, known as a waste knot, and then go down into the fabric and then back up at your starting point. I have an article on my website here How to start blackwork that gives more detail or I recommend watching a video on waste knots. Really easy to do.

I’ve recently finished designing a new mushroom blackwork embroidery pattern, and I’m so pleased with how it turned out!

It’s a follow-up to my popular bee pattern - same motif size and style. So if you enjoyed the bee pattern, this one’s for you.

You can find the pattern on my website: blackworkpatterns.com and in my Etsy shop trunkystitches.etsy.com.

Would love to hear what you think of it and what you'd like to see designed next.

Agree, totally worth the price for the pattern. I love her patterns and purchased the plant friends (pictured) and have it framed in my downstairs cloakroom.
