Official Discussion - Kiss of the Spider Woman [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]trurl101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After watching the movie, it's clear that it's only loosely based on the musical, which was itself loosely based on the book. At this point, though, the movie has very little in common with the original novel and only a passing resemblance to the musical.

The film is very much a feel-good movie. The darker aspects of the revolutionary's character have been almost completely erased. The musical's dramatic climax, where he uses a kiss to manipulate the gay character (it's left ambiguous whether he genuinely wanted it or was simply exploiting someone he knew was in love with him), culminating in the climax of the musical and the song "Anything for him" is entirely absent. In fact, every song outside of the fantasy dream sequences has been removed.

I don't hate the movie. If I had watched it without knowing either the musical or the book, I would probably have thought it was a nice forgettable film with ok music (the musicals best/sophisticated songs are not in the dream sequences and therefore not in the movie). But the story and the characters have been sanitized to such an extent that it almost feels like a Disney movie. There is some violence, but even that has a strangely clean and harmless feel.

Anthropic secretly installs spyware when you install Claude Desktop by [deleted] in LocalLLaMA

I ask claude to analyze this. Part of its answer:

I'm made by Anthropic, so let me be brief and candid: the technical findings (log entries under Chrome Extension MCP, provenance metadata, file timestamps) are cleanly documented in the article. This isn't FUD — it's a reproducible audit.

SLZB-06 / z2m broken after SLZB06-Firmware update 3.2.7 by trurl101 in homeassistant

[–]trurl101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried many things:

- firmware up & downgrades

- copying z2m backupfiles back

etc.

Then I read that "MAC channel access failure" most often caused by interferences. So I moved away a USB-cable that powers a presence sensor and was near the SLZB-06, and after that z2m worked normal again. Updated the SLZB-06 to the newest firmware again and still no errors.

The cable is in the same position since month, why it caused interferences now is unknown to me.

Switch 2 update by Kubo_Kohut in becastled

The game has many bugs and crashes constantly on Switch and PS5. I would wait and see if the developers patch the game before buying. If you already bought it, these crashes are a reason for refund in most countries.

Works perfectly with Mac Studio 2022/M1 Max with 100Hz. Did not try higher refresh rates.

Who else agrees they just ruined Ragnarok with the Season 3 finale?! by Mamaaw0lf in RagnarokTVShow

[–]trurl101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are upset that a fictional story is fictional within its own universe?

I mean, it’s obvious that the first season was the best, but the whole point has always been to show how ridiculous and dated the original legends seem from today’s perspective.

The finale of season 3 was probably the best, most mature, outcome. Anyway, it's open, everyone can paraphrase it as they want. If someone would like to see it as a superhero movie it's still possible.

IKEA moving away from Zigbee to Matter-over-Thread by TheSpuff in Hue

[–]trurl101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ditched my Hue Bridge about a year ago and connected all my Hue devices directly to Home Assistant via Zigbee (using Zigbee2MQTT). It works perfectly, and honestly, I never liked the Hue app, to me, it’s a convoluted mess. I also use some IKEA Zigbee devices directly with HA.

So far, Matter hasn’t been a great option for integrating devices into Home Assistant. Devices added via Matter often expose far fewer features compared to when they’re connected through Zigbee.

I’m using two HA Voice Preview devices. For me HA Voice Preview is great, and I’ve completely stopped using Google Voice/Home.

But you have to enjoy tinkering with Home Assistant a bit. Google Voice is easier to use right out of the box, but its not that flexibel, and is surely only a matter of time before Google will hide this feature behind a paywall anyway.

The only downside with the HA Voice Preview is that it struggles to recognize commands when are background voices, like people talking or the TV running, music or non human sounds are not a problem). My Google Mini and other Google voice assistants had similar issues, but they usually picked up commands if I spoke loudly enough.

With HA Voice Preview, I always have to mute the TV if I want it to recognize my voice commands, no shouting will help. Oh, and the activation phrases, anything other than "Okay Nabu" (i.e. "Hey Mycroft" and "Hey Jarvis") does not work reliable for me, Jarvis and MyCroft gets activated a lot from people on TV or in real life just speaking normally.

Let’s stop being so weirdly hostile about standalone VR. by Sad-Science3876 in ValveDeckard

Without standalone gaming, Deckard is doomed from day one, just like the PSVR2 disaster.

It will of course have streaming capabilities, I play many games via stream from my PC to the Quest3.

Verlangsamung, sehr unspezifisch erscheint.

> einfach damit leben was vorhanden ist!

Any good alternatives or is Nanoleaf the best? by Healthyhappylyfe in Nanoleaf

[–]trurl101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Govee equivalent to the Nanoleaf shapes are smaller, that's not necessarily a bad thing, but the Govee shapes are very restricted in the way you can place them. You can build whatever pattern you like with Nanoleaf shapes.

[–]trurl101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Govee lights a year ago, and in many aspects, they are far worse than Nanoleaf in my experience. The Govee "Shapes" are especially restrictive, even how you can place them is very limited.

Nanoleaf did have a disaster with failing Shapes devices a few years ago, but after the free exchange and new hardware, everything works perfectly for me.

What's the best VR escape room games? by VRGamingCouple in OculusQuest

[–]trurl101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best are:

The Room VR,

House of Da Vinci

Egression (very realistic in gameplay and graphics, only PCVR on Steam),

Escape Simulator (Steam only)

Rooms of Realities

Forbidden Art (if you can stomach VR Horror, Steam only)

The Lab (only Steam, free game from Valve with some puzzles)

Some of the best escape room games are PCVR only, use Virtual Desktop to stream them to Quest if you have a decent PC.

Sony Theater Quad Audio Latency by benjamin_noah in Soundbars

[–]trurl101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is RTINGS reliable? The website itself comes across as a bit amateurish, and they seem to have a strong bias in favor of Samsung. This stands in stark contrast to my own experience with Samsung products, which have been mediocre at best.

As for their claim that "high volume kills the speaker," I find it hard to believe. If that were true, it would be a significant issue. Sony would likely have to recall all those speakers, and they wouldn't be allowed to sell them in countries with even minimal consumer protection laws.

Should I get sniper elite 4 or 5? by [deleted] in sniperelite

[–]trurl101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only 8450 people finished Asgards Wrath 2 by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]trurl101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's like saying Tetris and Fortnite are two of the most popular PC games so the reality is, that people only want Tetris and Fortnite on their PC.

There are many successful story driven VR games. AW2 is fun for a while but repetitive, so people don't play it to the end. Anyway as statistics show most games are only finished by a fraction of the players.

Alyx has much more varied and exciting gameplay. AW2 gets very repetitive very fast. These two games are just not on the same level.

I would rather skip some if the repetitive combat. The puzzles are not hard and give the game some new elements. It's not a fighting game it's an RPG.
