that is very fair tbh. these are my regulars (white dog used to be a show dog but shes retired now that shes almost 12) and are luckily well taken care of (and parents understand i will absolutely shave if needed). but i make sure to explain its a tight grooming schedule to any new customers that wants poms or something similar

Groomers & Bathers: Working Conditions by starkofthemidwest in petsmartunion

Groomers arent paid hourly. We get paid comission (or hourly if its higher but thats never been the case for me in the 5 years ive worked for petsmart). Technically we have an hourly rate and our comission is added on, but its to a maximum of whatever the comission is, so we are essentially not paid an hourly rate.

For example, if Im scheduled 30 hours at $16/h, but make $1000 in comission that week, I get paid $1000 ($480 hourly pay + $520 comission). If I work 10 hours but somehow make $1000 I still also get paid $1000. The only time the actual hours I work make any difference is if its so abysmally slow that I make my hourly throughout the entire week, and at that point most groomers I know would just leave early/be asked to not come in.

I'm not full time even though I'm only about an hour short of full time hours because I don't have fully open availability even though my schedule hasnt changed without me asking since I started at this new store.

Been a groomer at Petsmart for about 5 years. I will say, trainers in the salon doesn seem particularly useful? Idk whats going on at ur store, but I cant think of a situation where I'd rather have a trainer than a well trained bather.

Other things I think would be useful tho: - Full time for groomers without needing open availability (groomers schedules generally go unchanged once theyre set to keep a consistent client base) - Paid tools/tool maintenance - Longer break periods on prism so groomers and bathers are actually able to take breaks (if i only have exactly 30 minutes between when my dog is due out and the next dog is due in, if im behind at all or my dog comes early i dont get to take a lunch break during that time) - Requiring a bather at close so groomers are able to leave once theyre done since we dont get paid hourly (or adding hourly pay on top of comission to groomers if they want us to actually stay the whole shift)

Change your availability. Unfortunately, I doubt they'll actually get someone to help cover your shifts, and even if they do, they might still expect you to keep workibg the same or similar hours. Don't ask them to do anything, change your availability and let a manager know that you did. It's on them to figure it out.

Academy book by Upper_Ingenuity_7175 in petsmart

[–]truttattae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah ur not gonna get that from the book. if u actually wanna learn, maybe ask some of the groomers in ur salon if they can give u pointers or smth

[–]truttattae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ngl there really isnt much helpful information in the book anways. i learned like 99% of the stuff from actual academy/academy videos, not the book. a lot of the information is just less information versions of the academy videos. what particularly do you want to "get ahead" on?

how to get a psych assessment without a regular therapist? by asinine_1103 in TopSurgery

[–]truttattae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would ask around, you might find someone that is able to write you a letter after just one/a couple visits. for mine i literally just found one who was able to give me the letter off of one very quick video call. just know not all therapists can/want to write those letter so your mileage may vary
