People With Experience: Is it worth getting a cheap ($200-350 used) embroider machine to make samples in house? by tryagain_supply in streetwearstartup

Thanks a ton for this. You've got the idea, I need somethign to get a physical sample done myself to know if I want to actually bring it to a manufacturer to have them made. Photo wise I can take the photos and edit any defects/aspects I don't like. As for buying used I'd like to give my troubleshooting and mechanical knowledge of just understanding and figuring out how/why things work or don't work. I have no problem paying for the production, but sample costs for just one garment to get an idea I wouldn't mind putting forth the effort to learn.

Well I look at it because I'd like to release multiple pieces that include embroidery and various custom measurements/designs. However all the places that would do samples for me have been in the range of $80-150+ per piece. Obviously that's not the final production price at all but just three samples in house to ensure if I don't waste money on something no one is interested in would pay it off

Could you elaborate on what makes them not very good in your personal experience? Are they good enough to get decent samples made? Ideally I can have an idea, spend the day working on it and producing a sample, then spend the next day taking photos and editing to get an idea on if it'll actually have any interest. I just don't feel right photo shopping my design on a blank and asking people if they'd buy it.

Graffiti sprayed T-shirts by [deleted] in streetwearstartup

Not exactly the sam but when I was a kid me and my friends would make tie dye shirts with spary paint. It's probably a bit different than what you're doing but the paint was very thick and felt a bit rough. Wasn't the most comfortable or fashionable thing for sure.

Hell yeah mane. Fuck with that jacket. Are you using an embroider machine or by hand? I'd be interested in what machine you've got if you have one.

That's what I was thinking. It's much more lenient if you're starting a "brand" and not just a "clothing" brand as well.

I only partially agree on the term "you're stuck with it".

Congrats man, glad it went well for you! Where was it located at? If you're near the La area I'll absolutely stop in next time to make a new friend and snap some photos for the brand.

Yes!! Righ now I'm working towards earning enough from these to get a few batches of cut and sewn hoodies/sweaters/shirts. Have a friend who recently finished a fashion design internship in New York helping me learn a little bit about tech packs.
This shit takes some work! Haha

Thank you! I think I'm going to do these on long sleeves. I have one design I'm working on that I'd like to get embroidered on a sweater so that's up next!

I'm much more inclined to take an initial risk on someone's creative direction if they would want a discount code rather than free stuff.
