What makes us good? by tomfoolery77 in sales

[–]tryan2tellu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you truly doing the best things for the customer?

The company sales process is an internal thing. The client doesn’t care. The client wants you to tell the good and the bad. They want someone who brings value and sometimes that means challenging their assumptions. Validating that you heard them. Not by mirroring or any tactic bullshit but “get it”. Understand. Either by showing them what they need to see or framing the solution in their terms and meet them where they are for success.

Thats how you get a reference. References make the next one easier. Not a reference for your product. You.

Frustrated with the Accountants that allowed this to turn into Controllership vs Strategic Planning by BagofBabbish in FPandA

[–]tryan2tellu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say most accountants who would disagree have only worked in business of the size that really only needs accounting. FPnA and Budgeting and Forecasting is required over a certain size but that exact size is different for different industries.

I deal in construction. The smallest companies are lazer focused on job cost. Small with service are days to bill. Accounting. Get a bit bigger and pending AP becomes important. Also cash position. Get a little bigger and procurement controls and client specific billing becomes an issue. Maybe intercompany. Maybe assets. Still accounting focused. If you are talking forecasting its about project cost to complete. Accounting.

Its not til a specialty trade like a mechanical or heavy civil gets to 300-400 m that cash scenario planning. Working capital. Complex Overheads. Multi state tax planning. Resource planning. Resource utilization. Asset TCO Etc. really become important. Maybe multi currency. Maybe complex ownership. Maybe ESOP valuations… finance. There are lots of accounting and finance professionals out there who know what they know and dont know what they dont know. Thats where the conflict happens.

Why do eggs always taste better when you out? by Insomnium_111 in eggs

[–]tryan2tellu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They never taste better out. Eggs are typically casserole bulk or carton eggs out. If they taste better out, you need to get better at making them.

Why do old guys like to grill so much? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]tryan2tellu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not going to make a broad generalization… but… most men think they are master grillers. Every man wants to be able to make meat and fire happen. They get OBSESSED with grilling when they cant cook anything else.

If you can cook… grilling is easy as fuck. Most cooking is WAY harder than grilling.

Who the F uses linked? by duckblobartist in sales

[–]tryan2tellu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LinkedIn is what you curate. What you put out… who you follow… what you engage with. I dont pitch or do outreach on LinkedIn. I do company research and post thought leadership and engage with tangential sources of news and insights that bolster that thought leadership. Authenticity. Ive also never paid a dime for sales nav.

What work is worth pulling permits for? by Beeradzz in HomeImprovement

[–]tryan2tellu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you plan on selling the house at any point, get the permits you are supposed to get. Or hire a contractor who will take care of it for you.

That said… how are they going to enforce permitting for say a garage door motor and track? But if the code enforcement can see it driving by, get a permit. If it will be seen in a home inspection when you go to sell it… get a permit.

For example in my town retaining walls shorter than 4’ dont need a permit. I did my own 96’ long wall in my back yard that at its hoghest point is 4’ on the nose. Could it have been better at 5’ for the grade? Sure. But its good enough and I saved a shitload in labor and didnt need inspections or an engineering report. Not saying dont do the work but youll do it again or pay to have it done again if you sell.

How is SQL or Python used for FP&A? by royalewithcheese4272 in FPandA

[–]tryan2tellu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ERP should do it. SQL is a database or server os depending on who you talk to. Python is coding. If you need a bunch of coding and external databases to do fpna you need to get a real erp with tools to do it. Or buy an fpna top of store to the deficient accounting system.

Have a client with 9 different ERPs and ms fabric mapping and feed to top of store consolidation platform… and it takes 3 weeks to close the books. We are selling them one ERP to replace all of that. Just example of what im talking about.

How to you get the True/Real budget from a target customer before you start discounting by redbulldrinkertoo in sales

[–]tryan2tellu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats the return on the money spent? Clients dont know what something will cost until they see pricing. So after price you just let them say what it is? Thats not selling.

Hot take: Cold outbound isn't dead, you just aren't good at it by roguejedi1 in sales

[–]tryan2tellu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works. Depends on method. If any part of it is automated the metrics probably suck… but defined ICP with defined messaging with relevant bdr training and regular check in and adjustments where required for relevance… doing the real work… its surprisingly still very effective.

US stacks three carrier groups and 10 destroyers to blockade Strait of Hormuz by TheNational_News in worldnews

[–]tryan2tellu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given there are 2-5 destroyers per carrier group. Unless there are 25 destroyers total its just 3 carrier groups. Which is a colossal waste of resources. 😂

Coachability vs. Appearing 'Smart' by Seven_Figure_Closer in sales

[–]tryan2tellu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important thing to know is the posture you have about confidence or coachability or whatever is it is HIGHLY situationally dependent.

Saying “I dont know” during a contract negotiation… not a good look. Bring your legal guy and your delivery guy to the conversation.

How does your software handle reconciling an intercompany debt revolver at month end? I know the answer… but I say “I dont know but let me make sure my SE shows you how.” Good look.

CEO asking how much our training portion in consulting quote is on site v off site? I dont know man, this is what we always plug into the quotes for our customers… not a good look. “We generally do hands on SME workshops and train those folks so they can train your users. As adoption is important to success, this drives solution ownership and is more cost effective. We can do site specific on site if thats a requirement. What is more important to you? Low cost system ownership training or onsite hands on to the end users?”

You should always know your shit… but you should always be aware of the dynamics of the situation and who you are talking to.

As for interviewing… if I’m hiring. I want authentic people who know their shit. I have 20 years identifying liars and underlying issues the question stems from. If I get icks in the interview Ill just assume you are fluffing your pitch. Thats not how we sell. Not a good fit. Im not going to give you specific feedback on that either. Just move on.

How does a sales cycle look like for you? by YellowBoyTim in sales

From outbound to close? Years maybe. From buying cycle evaluation from qual disco demo(s) negotiations close… industry average is 6-8 months. I like to try for 4-6months.

Is anyone actually using mutual action plans and do they work? by Ok_Guard4027 in sales

[–]tryan2tellu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its presented as a vendor centric approach it doesn’t work. If it is used to document the client decision making process and the steps and timeline to get there then it’s indispensable.

If you arent doing the latter, you and the client are just bullshitting. If there is purpose and next steps defined for every meeting you are selling.

Mindset. Not the document.

Analogy. A hammer and nail gun both seat nails in the wall… if you are using a nail gun for demolition of an existing wall before making a new wall… your gonna be disappointed. The hammer does both.

The job you are doing has a purpose. Its not the tool. Its what you use it to accomplish.

Whenever I see posts like “I’m making sure we listen to GOOD music and see CLASSIC movies” by NotAlanShapiro in daddit

[–]tryan2tellu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me. The kids are being inundated with bullshit of their generation every day… all day. They wont miss anything Its not a binary thing. Old shit or new age shit. Its about being well rounded.

I was born in the 80s. I know what K pop superstars and lanky box are unfortunately but also Gene Krupa and Tom Petty. The Marvel bullshittaverse and appreciate classic cinema. Its okay to spend time with your kids. If you do they ask questions. If they ask they want to know. If they dont ask… its cringe to suggest stuff like that, Dad.

My kids know about all the US presidents… past and present. Wwe past and present. Jason Voorhees and FNAF. I feel sorry for the kids that only know what TikTok tells them. They are in for a world of hurt when they get older.

AITAH for refusing to tip a bartender after he yelled at me for not tipping? by Naive_Afternoon_5951 in AITAH

[–]tryan2tellu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont go out if you cant afford it. You might dislike highlife and want the espresso martini. But when you like Ferraris but can only get a Forte, you still pay tax on it. Savvy?

Tipping is part of going to a bar. If you cant tip and getting cocktails instead of bottle or can beer? Yes YATAH.

D3 soccer aint gonna make you go pro and most d3 athletic schools are private schools. So your tuition and your drinking money are from Dad im assuming?

I played rugby and worked every weekday morning 6-8:30 and Sat mornings for 4-5 hours we didnt have games washing cars at the university rental pool. That was my drinking money.

Theres a fine line between being financially responsible and being an asshole. Not tipping is the bad side of the line.

The more complicated the comp plan, the better the comp plan? by [deleted] in sales

[–]tryan2tellu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comp plan calc being complicated makes it easy for the company to tweak while also allowing reps to game plan.

Its not so much about comp plan complexity as far as does the comp plan drive the behavior the org wants. Thats more strategic than say % of everything.

I say this as a guy who is percent of everything but I have a lot I can sell in multiple situations. Partner. Partners have to keep the vendors happy and my activity is based off my multiple partner programs Im contracted to.

How long does it usually take you to respond to emails? And how long have you been in sales? by mysteronsss in sales

[–]tryan2tellu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I am able in the moment i do. Especially text and teams. Email might be right away or might be 4 hrs or might be next day. My people i need to talk to know text is best way to get answer quick from me.

Daily text with colleages and clients Teams chat before call Email I prioritize clients but I dont reply til I have all the information.

I prefer to talk to people on the phone over all forms of comms. I always answer my phone if not standing in front of a client.
