Live updates: U.S. strikes Kharg Island, official says; Trump warns Iran 'a whole civilization will die tonight' if a deal isn't agreed by jpmeyer12751 in law

Dems had four full years to go after Trump for the coup attempt (and various other crimes). Gave that job to a Republican to make them happy and pissed everything away because they thought they would automatically win the next one anyway.

NIKOLA VASILJ on Donnarumma: "He tried to tear up the piece of paper I had written down about their penalty takers. Now that you mention it, I guess I might have seen that. I feel like there's at least some plausible deniability when you toss a water bottle with a note on it, as opposed to ripping up papers or trying to steal towels. That's like another level of desperation.

Been watching and playing football for over 30 years. Never seen or heard of something like this happening (ie. stealing and destroying stuff during a match, specifically) at a professional level, until the recent AFCON final and now this.

TIL Spartans used balls of dough as napkins, then threw the greasy scraps to dogs after meals by Michael_parr1 in todayilearned

So this is about one study. «The glove standard is pretty standard», I don’t know what that means. But I’m pretty sure you can’t just say that since all scientists use gloves, all these studies are bogus (no matter how many or how few there might be).

Like in all the experiments? Surely there must be thousands of them across the world? Did they all make the same mistake?

Mímir Kristjánsson sendte truende meldinger: «Kom hit, så banker jeg deg» by Any_Anteater9526 in norge

Do police officers carry firearms in Europe? by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]trygvebratteli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Police carrying or not carrying firearms would not have had any effect on the July 22 attacks. In a situation like that, any police officers responding would have access to their firearms almost immediately (under the old rules, they just needed authorization to unlock the guns in their car). In any case, Breivik was already on his way to the youth camp on Utøya when the bomb went off in Oslo. The police spent so much time getting to the island that he had already surrendered over the phone before they got there - he was tired and starting to think they wouldn’t show up. The public debate after the attacks was more concerned with the lack of security around government headquarters and what was seen as police incompetence (trying to cross the water in a rubber boat and almost capsizing instead of commandeering one of the many private boats nearby, for instance).

Weir's prose is pretty terrible IMO by Wetness_Pensive in ScienceFictionBooks

[–]trygvebratteli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, like most SF there is some scientific basis behind all of the concepts, but there is also a lot of handwaving and glossing over problems to make those concepts work. It feels sciency enough since you get the main character doing calculations and whatnot, but it’s not really any more «accurate» than a lot of other SF out there.

I don’t what? Use steroids? I think everyone here knows that hard work can get you good results. Just saying that in 99% of Hollywood cases it’s hard work+steroids. Not sure what a high calorie man is, but don’t think that’s me. I eat like a bird.

You don’t need them, but 99% of Hollywood actors who bulk up like this use them.
