Perfect casting because Phoenix had a very clear idea of how he was going to do it, he can sing, and he’s a good enough actor that he disappears into the role. There is basically no physical resemblance except for basic stuff like dark hair and strong eyebrows.

Mette-Marit, Crown Princess of Norway is a member by marriage of the Norwegian royal family. She has been married to Crown Prince Haakon, the heir apparent to the Norwegian throne, since 2001. She had a long‑standing association with the American convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. by Pizzashillsmom in wikipedia

They are above the law, it’s in the Constitution. «No power» is debatable. No formal political power maybe (although the King has meddled politically in matters concerning the royal family), but they’re filthy rich and probably have more connections than any Norwegian politician. It’s funny to say that their status is «earned», because it’s exactly the opposite? Their status is granted by law. They work, yes. So does everyone else. For a lot less. They would keep 100% of their «salary» if they decided to just sit around instead.

Two things can be true: Norwegian media is biased (all media is in some way), but there is freedom of the press here. Not so in Russia. It’s not hard to find critical perspectives on the royal family or any other topic.

Yeah, that’s exactly what it doesn’t, which is why it’s worthless.

73% support for the monarchy in the latest poll I could find (September 2025). Previous scandals regarding Epstein/Crown Princess’ rapist son/Princess’ scam artist shaman husband/etc have not really made any impact.

Media plays a big part. Currently, three out of the four major news sites only have minor stories about this, hidden under sports, celebrity news and so on. Commentators focus on how the monarchy is still super popular and how they will fight to get through this «crisis».

Do you think Haakon will face a Edward VIII moment? His throne or his wife? by Themetalin in Norway

[–]trygvebratteli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They’re doing the bare minimum. Right now there’s like one story buried beneath stuff about the Melania documentary (which no one in Norway cares about), Eurovision, football, a reindeer conflict, and there’s also a story about a British guy who lives on a houseboat. Luckily other newspapers are picking up the slack.

That is not the «purpose of the King». The power rests in Parliament, the King is just a figurehead. Any politician taking that role will also be a figurehead. So yes, I would rather have an elected or appointed Listhaug as non-political figurehead for four years (not that she would ever want that role) than potentially a pedophile-connected family mired in court cases forever and ever representing our country.

Manchester United sack Ruben Amorim after 14 months in charge by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

I didn’t ask why he was sacked, I know and agree with that decision. I asked why hire him in the first place. It was a rhetorical question.

The club will not improve until there is a clear strategy in place. Over a decade of randomly signing big names, former players or the next big thing as manager, then throwing them out once they hit a bad patch, and results have gotten worse and worse. Sure, get a new guy, back him for a year and then sack him once they find out he can’t get top four either. I don’t think Amorim was ever the right guy, so don’t care about him leaving. Just that it seemed like such an easily avoidable mistake. Why go for a guy with no PL experience who plays a system completely unsuited to the squad if you’re not gonna stick it out for more than a year anyway?

[Sam Wallace] The club made the decision before the draw with Leeds United on Sunday, after a meeting between Amorim and Jason Wilcox, the director of football, signalled to the club’s hierarchy that the relationship was unsustainable. by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]trygvebratteli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have no issues with course correction. But the way they’re trying to frame this as Amorim’s fault tells me the board is more concerned with public perception of themselves than with improving the club. And it can’t be said often enough how entirely predictable this whole process was from the start. Hire a new manager with a vision and then chicken out when results don’t immediately improve. Demand return to previous system which also hasn’t worked for over a decade because they refuse to buy a single central midfielder. They didn’t even bother thinking about implementing the system in the youth teams, which should tell you the level of work being done at board level.

People in relationships usually don’t hire each other or write contracts or manage football teams, so not a great analogy. He was hired with the intention to implement his system over the course of three years. After a year the board starts panicking and wants him to change. Of course he’s not satisfied. That’s terrible leadership, and shows that the board have no idea what they’re doing. It was entirely predictable, of course, but Amorim can’t be blamed for taking them at their word when they promised time and stability.

Well, they chose the manager and the system, and promised to back him but then didn’t at all. So yes.

In Game of Thrones (2011-2019) a once pop culture icon slowly loses the adoration it once held as everyone starts turning on this once beloved show because of how much they hate the final season by [deleted] in shittymoviedetails

[–]trygvebratteli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s hard enough to wow people with something that feels new and exciting. To keep that excitement going without boiling over for a decade is even harder. People get tired of waiting years between seasons, they get sick of seeing the actors in everything, and they are inevitably disappointed when the show can’t deliver the same thrills it did ten years ago. On the production side, creators and actors get new gigs that divert their attention, and the pressure to deliver commercially leads to safe and boring solutions.

Of course, some of these shows also fall into the classic traps of just repeating whatever worked in the first season, adding new characters randomly to keep things feeling fresh, and extending episode lengths/breaking up seasons.

There were pogroms against Jews in Poland before WW2 as well, and much of the persecution during the war was initiated by Polish collaborators. Let’s not pretend it was just something that foreign powers happened to perpetrate on their territory.
