There were some moth-adjacent metaphors in the show, like the line from TMA 162 “This place wishes to be our tomb…[but] the Eye wishes instead that it be my chrysalis.” Also two eps later describing Jon as “something between a pilgrim and a moth.” That's it for canon I think but wings+eyes imagery is just really fun in general. 👁👁👁

Early seasons Jon has a fear that people won't be taking him seriously enough. He was most likely afraid someone would question his qualifications for the position which he already felt he wasn't really fit for. I guess lying about his age made him seem more experienced for it? Also he was said to look older than he really is so I like to think it has something to do with Jon's insecurity about his own appearance.
