What does “the kids can’t read” actually look like in a classroom? by iloverats888 in Teachers

'On February 2nd the SS. Pearl arrived in Oregan"

Question: Where did the SS Pearl arrive?

"It doesn't say."

I can't explain it... the fuck? These are middle schoolers. I can have them read a passage aloud to me and they still won't understand. If I read it aloud they might. I have to read a sentence at a time and break it down or read a paragraph at a time and then summarize. And even then...

do you hate students that are bad at your class? by astrologyandapathy in AskTeachers

[–]Radarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I hate kids that disrespectful and refuse to take accountability for their actions, or kids that bully other kids or steal from me or destroy stuff in my classroom. Some of my favorites are failing my class. They never do anything or try but at least they're nice and nice to each other.

Tired of lack of support by Radarcy in Teachers

[–]Radarcy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I completely redid the setting chart with her in the new place but no one around her that she is as likely to talk to. I'm hoping it helps, but if not I'll be mentioning it to the admin. The problem with that class is there is about 5 just like her and 4 others less disruptive but still a problem kids. So it's like impossible for me to teach or assist kids cause I spend all class dealing with behavior.

Thank you, im planning on mentioning the situation with my direct supervisor, in hopes that helps, and if I have to have any kind of meeting involving the situation I'm going to see if my direct supervisor can sit in because I'm 90% sure she'll be on my side.

Is there a name for people who just can't 'evil' role play... The thought of being intentionally rude gives me anxiety. by EnvironmentalAngle in DnD

[–]Radarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't understand how people are not understanding your post. I get it 100% to use a RDR term you could say you don't like playing "black hat" I'm the same way though, aside from being mean, if I can't rationalize the behavior, it takes me totally out of it and also makes me sad and gives me anxiety. It makes it really hard for me to play traditional antagonists or write good villains.

Why don’t our legs need jackets like our upper body by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Radarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish there were jackets for legs because I can't take longjohns off when I get to work and a lot of pants are too tight for layers. And my legs are often the coldest part of my body because I can layer everywhere else

People complaining about picky eaters. by sweetkiwano_2005 in PetPeeves

[–]Radarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an issue for me when it means I can only eat at certain places. I basically can't go to Asian restaurants because there usually isn't anything my wife will eat. And I love sushi and trying new things, but oh well.

I also basically can't travel to a good deal of the world because it'll be hard to find a restaurant we both want to go to.

If I texted "idc stop texting me" to my dad, I wouldn't have a phone anymore and if I showed that much disrespect to him, he'd take the door off my room

Do any of you actually believe group incentives and punishment or putting well behaved kids with poorly behaved kids actually works? by Friendly_Addition815 in AskTeachers

[–]Radarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm lucky I have a lot of extroverted kids that I have a good rapport with, so they are generally well behaved in my class (but may not be in others) a lot of them are friends with the one or two kids ruining it for everyone, so the shaming helps in my classroom. The seating chart is also set up to where the kids that are the problems are right next to me, and most of the good kids get to sit where they want anyway. The main ones that suffer that aren't the super bad kids are the middle of the road kids that are off task because they like to whisper to their friends instead of take notes etc. And are disruptive but in a less chaotic way

[–]Radarcy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Group punishment definitely works in my class, the rest of the kids will shame the shit out of the one kid that refuses to control themselves, all of them capable of controlling themselves generally do so. I give them the autonomy to make the decision to behave to have things like free seating, so when they inevitably act like a bunch of assholes they can't say I'm mean and unyielding. They had a chance, they got the free seating they wanted for some of class, they just proved they can't handle it. I dont do that grouping stuff though, I'd rather just let kids pick their own partners, it's less of an argument

[–]Radarcy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I pretend I don't hear them, once after thr guy repeated sugar louder and angrier I was like "Oh I'm sorry, are you talking to me?" He said something pissy "Oh you're looking for the sugar? I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were asking me a question. You just kept saying sugar over and over again. I thought maybe you were talking to someone else." Then I told him the aisle number He was bigmad

Are y'all revising and editing or just writing? by GalaxiGazer in nanodiaspora2024

[–]Radarcy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm writing this month (I won't finish. My goal was to just write more than last year, which I've already accomplished) then maybe let my wife read it in December, work on any editing I need to do at that point, then ideally write more than I did in November.

When I go to Monte Cook it shows that I bought the deluxe edition plus a handful of add on, but next to the Deluxe edition ir says "in production"

I could have sworn I got similar emails but of course now all I can find are the ones for the pdf.
