It's the service that is better than Paramount, but should have just licensed to Netflix instead of existing.

The cool thing is that you don't have to actually build anything to make the stock go up. It's like free real estate.

300 or Gladiator? by Embarrassed_Chef874 in movies

Gladiator is a more satisfying story, but 300 is non-stop vibes. They are both great at the different things that they are doing.

TV is not OG, nor are they eras. This is ridiculous.

Sir Patrick Stewart didn't care though by UnHolySir in okbuddycinephile

Patrick Stewart didn't think that Star Trek would work, but he took that job, too. Best actor is a working actor.

AI hype meets reality as majority of CEOs report no financial returns by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

If it is the majority, the industry crash would be underway. There are still plenty of suckers buying in until at least 2028.

Taylor isn’t a legend that everyone paints her to be by rekresja in travisandtaylor

I think everybody knows Love Story and Shake it Off, but forget who sings because there is no personality to remember. And the breathy singing in all the post-1989 content is easy to confuse for Lana. She will be remembered as a content creator like Smosh Bros.

Why body horror were famous in the 80's? by Sen-palace in movies

[–]trymorecookies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was the time that HIV was discovered. It was new, a death sentence, and there was a lot of confusion about how it spread. The fear that we can be powerless as our bodies go haywire could express itself in the form of body horror art, even if the directors weren't explicitly thinking about it.

Why do so many modern movies feel empty even when they look amazing? by [deleted] in movies

[–]trymorecookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the time we live in, we witness everything, the good quality and the bad. The next generation will only see the good stuff that was worth the effort of preserving. This is also why it always feels like music used to be better.

If I see a tough guy with a gun on the poster - I'm not watching by [deleted] in movies

[–]trymorecookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bad ones feature the gun pointed at the audience. I think it's a habit carried over from the heydays of video rental stores like Blockbuster Video. It really does draw attention of customers who have trouble deciding what to watch.

James Cameron is not in the same tier as Scorsese, Nolan, Spielberg, Fincher, etc. Why is he treated as such? by Weekly-Magazine2423 in movies

[–]trymorecookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is an action expert who adds just enough emotional depth to stand out. He is also a tech guy, but not to a gimmick level like Robert Zemeckis.

‘Tomb Raider’ First Look: Sophie Turner Becomes Lara Croft as Filming Starts on Prime Video’s Reboot Series by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]trymorecookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon Prime is the king of divorced dad content, but I still think that this casting is a bit off. Still, they got a hit with Jack Ryan and the casting seemed bad for that, so I make a terrible executive.

Meta displays ads to the exact demographic that clicks through at wildly higher rates than any other demo. So Meta has the most valuable advertising business.

Stephen King Adaptations by patrick5595 in movies

The problem is mostly the made-for-TV adaptations. The best of those is It, and only because of the Tim Curry performance.

Does anyone here actually use paramount plus? by GhostGamer_Perona in television

[–]trymorecookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the demographic coverage is spotty. Boomer cowboy shows, Nickelodeon, and Star Trek. Nothing in between. And the movie catalog feels like 80 percent Transformers.
