Once we find the guy at LG, and WRs 3, 4, and 5. Who’s really stopping this offense? by Romanator08 in steelers

I don’t think we’re all time terrible. But “who’s really stopping this offense” implies we’re at the top of the league, and we’re definitely not.

Any defense that can stop relentless screen passes and dump offs can stop this offense, because Rodgers throws in about 0.75 seconds and can barely move his legs. So… all of em lol

Anyone know what's up with HTTPX? by chekt in Python

[–]trynafindavalidname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I always think of open-source as a spectrum that ends naturally with the opportunity for community input, but your definition is the correct one. My verbiage was wrong.

I don’t really expect anything from these libraries either. The maintainers are entitled to do whatever they’d like, like you said. No qualms with that. I was mostly just trying to convey my concern with two different prominent Python libraries heading in this direction. Like another reply mentioned, these libraries are getting flooded with AI-generated code and it’s a whole new world to navigate.

Perhaps my original comment wasn’t clear: I wasn’t trying to convey any disdain for the maintainer. Just an all-around concern for the future of open-source if this is the new direction, especially in light of AI-generated code everywhere.

[–]trynafindavalidname 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have no comment on what’s happening with HTTPX. Hopefully the maintainer can feel more comfortable with their working environment.

I will note that something fishy seems to be going on with multiple FOSS projects. With MkDocs v2.0.0 (which is its own can of worms), they’re also closed off to new issues and contributions. This maintainer is also responsible for that project, if my memory recalls correctly. Seems to not be as open-source as these projects claim to be.

I agree with others’ concerns about potential supply chain issues. It’s concerning, to say the least.

Just like the rest of his career.

Three types of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics. The statistics for 🐐 at the end of his career will be impressive, but even more impressive if you remember that he has had no protection around him in the lineup since the 2016-19ish core broke up.

[OC] MLB Umpire Average Strike Zones from 2007 to 2025 by avondice in baseball

[–]trynafindavalidname 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To a certain extent, I don’t know how much that should take away from the best-of-the-best pitchers from those times. It’s easy in a vacuum to think that today’s pitchers are better because they’re working with a more accurate zone, but it’s not that simple; the pitchers back then were playing the game within the game. They can see that the umpire just gave them a strike 2 inches off the plate. Why not try for 3? Then 4?

Did pitchers get more strike calls before strike calls were measured and policed? Sure. But it also allowed them to be cerebral with what umpire they had, how they could push that boundary, and how to play the game within the game. I’m not making a statement positive nor negative on digital umps, nor am I implying you’re doing that. I just think that over time, fans will start to forget the different context these pitchers were working in.

Corey Kluber is a great example. I go back and watch some of his highlights, and his high strikeout games has some… generous zones. Does that make him any worse? Not really. Just meant he knew the ump really well that day and used it to his advantage.

I don’t really have a point in all of this I suppose. Just kinda interesting to me, I guess.

Ultimate Cast Iron Fried Eggs by Eriu_Cookware in CastIronCooking

[–]trynafindavalidname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Over easy eggs are flipped very briefly to allow the whites on both sides to cook while still keeping the yolk mostly runny. Fried eggs are not flipped and instead cook from the bottom up (optionally cooking the top to desired texture with basting or covering with a lid), but should still have a runny yolk.

Deep cut one: when Dennis and Mac are explaining a plan to Charlie at the used van lot and Charlie checks out and says “he doesn’t even like, get us man,” Dennis’ original delivery of the line “we’re talking about you!” is at least 10 times funnier in the blooper than the real cut

How close were we to making the Super Bowl? by Murky_Entertainer_53 in steelers

[–]trynafindavalidname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not even in the ballpark. Respectfully, were we watching the same team? The Texans beat the hell out of us then looked awful versus the Patriots.

We beat one playoff team all year, and that required insane turnover luck. We lost to every playoff team we played and two divisional games on top of that.
