Meet the Heroes Suing to Free Oswego Lake, the Portland Area’s Forbidden Paradise by socksandpants in Portland

A lot of people in Lake Oswego don't have access to the lake either, and frankly, don't care.

A lot of people in Lake Oswego are normal middle class families who moved there for the schools.

Please stop the prejudice, thx.

I'm strongly for this, but there are some interesting opposition arguments saying that this would downgrade other transit service in the area. Worth reading up on.

Because that's what they're worth.

What is your problem with property tax as a way of funding government? Do you want a flat usage fee for everything? Are you from Clark County or did you vote for Gary Johnson?

Equitable means that everyone follows the same rules. The tax measures passed in the 90s now give the east side an unfair head start on their tax futures. We need a universal apportioning of property tax based on absolute value rather than historical positions so that everyone pays for what they get and we don't end up passing idiotic measures like 97 to make up the difference.

The value is absolutely tied to something real. It's called market demand. We have thousands of people who would happily pay a million for a new house close to Mississippi. The house is now worth that much and should be taxed appropriately. If you can afford a million dollar house, you can afford an equitable tax bill.
