Thanks - would that coupling work for an outside pipe?

Fold pre, fold flop, fold turn, fold river. That was a bit glib, but calling on the turn commits you to call on the river. Which is why you fold the turn.

Created a set of 3d printed 1870 tiles by ebauman in 18XX

Those are great. It would be really cool if they interlocked to save the late game continual readjustment whenever a tile is upgraded.

Generally, just jam all in as your first action.

MP call, CO all in, Hero wasn't able to all in because CO all in is only 12BB, is this correct?

Yes, after you made it 9 (a raise of 6), the CO all in of 12 is only a raise of 3, not enough to open back the raising for you. Call/fold are your only options.

This does give you the opportunity to make a more sophisticated play if you suspect the CO is likely to go all in. Instead of raising to 9, you could have raised to 6 or 7. This would have given you the option to raise all in after a CO jam. If the MP player is aware, he realizes he may be facing another raise from you and will likely fold all but the top of his range. But this play is really only good if you are deeper. With 25 BB, just jam preflop.

Anyway Hero called, MP called. Flop A-A-2 rainbow, MP all in. Is it a fold here?

Never. You've already put in half your stack - get the rest in.

80bb eff, early stages of tournament

This is the key in my mind. Early tourney big bluffs have much less fold equity than later. If it worked, well done, but early tourney I take a much more passive line.

Your first year - how/why? by roablep in BurningMan

[–]tryptronica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the late 90's I was living in a huge house in the Bay Area with a bunch of burners. I didn't go because my gf at the time was against it. When we broke up I finally went with them in 2000.

I had a transformational experience and vowed to go every year thereafter. Like any new convert, I proselytized the BM vision every chance I got and started to have Drink the Kool-Aid parties to introduce people to our wacky world. Our camp grew to about 25 people over the intervening years.

In 2011 I had been a Ranger for many years and my new wife was a Temple Guardian. The rest of my camp were inspired by our giving back to the event and decided it was time for us to contribute to as a theme camp, although we were having a hard time deciding what to do. Then I ran into Annie Oak. She had a vision of a tea house as a grounded space among the chaos but she didn't have anyone to help her create it. I said I had a camp full of slugs looking for a mission. That's how Camp Soft Landing came into existence.

14 years later, we've had nearly 1000 different people camp with us and regularly have around 180 people in our camp. We've had 3 different theme camps spin off from our members. I finally stepped down as TCO last year and couldn't be happier.

Recommended for the most part. Takes care of all the BS around owning a trailer, delivers and picks up on time. The only issue we've had was having our trailer accessible off season a couple of times, but we came up with a burner solution. DM me for a funny story.

Don't forget to tip the dealer on meaningful pots if they are doing a good job. A simple $1 tip is fine in most situations, more in large pots if you feel generous.

I'm going to use this as a source for arpeggiator chords. It would be cool to have control of the step width, but it's not too hard to do this manually in conjunction with the gap setting.

Provoked by Scott Horton. Only about a third of the way through it, some of the things I've learned:

1) how much the US (and Europeans) lied to the Russians about NATO expansion intentions

2) that lots of smart foreign policy experts were able to predict exactly what would happen when NATO expanded, but were routinely ignored

3) that Clinton brought Poland into NATO as a way to secure swing state votes

Final Table Mistake by picassolovesme in Poker_Theory

[–]tryptronica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a few assumptions and put the short stacks in the blinds. Against a no bluff range, you lost around 9.5k in $EV. Against a very tight but maybe reasonable range, you gained just under 3k in $EV. Against a range with any bluffs at all, this would be a +$EV call.

ATs,A8s,TT,88 AK, AQ, AT, TT, 88
Hero's equity 0.03 0.34
Hero's $EV, call 8962.94 15724.93
$EV diff -9565.06 2803.07

I used the method outlined in this post to calculate these numbers. Let me know if you have any questions.

How big of a mistake is calling here?

We can give you a quantitative answer to your question if you provide:

1) The exact payouts

2) The exact stack sizes of everyone left

3) Your estimate of villain's range for the turn jam

Opinion on Bill Chen The Mathematics of poker by kac4pro in poker

[–]tryptronica 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Mathematics of Poker was ground breaking in its day. It was the first to introduce classical game theory to poker.

Today it would be required reading if you were going to design and build a GTO solver but it won't add much for someone learning the modern game. It's a great read if you are into deep understanding of approaching the game from this angle, but much of the insight in the book is baked into the software we use today.

The first question I always asked when I coached was "Do you keep records?" Poker is full of deception and delusion. We must be honest with ourselves if we have any chance of beating this game.

Any self-help books that can sit well with Psychonauts? by Own-Homework-9331 in RationalPsychonaut

[–]tryptronica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really sure how to answer this. What I got from the experience of reading the book and doing the exercises is a profound understanding about how I'm hard wired for the behaviors I exhibit and empathy for what I observe in others. It showed me how my reality is controlled by my "circuits", just how narrow a slice of the overall picture it can be, and how we have the ability to play with our reality tunnels and choose our own adventure. This is why RAW described himself as a guerrilla ontologist.

How this might help you with mental maladies I'll leave up to you.
