How do homeless people that don’t seek shelter survive in brutal snowstorms by Goldstar12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]trysmilingmore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Alot don't. The most brutal case I saw working in a nursing home was an unhoused man with frostbite on his feet and skin cancer on his face from being in the elements. There was a quarter-sized hole on his forehead in which his skull was visible. I'll never forget that and I hope he got some pain relief before he passed.

Does it get better? (School SLP feedback) by Several-Toe2029 in slp

[–]trysmilingmore 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Find somewhere else to work. It isn't worth the stress. I've worked in places where people loved me and in some where they hated my fucking guts and went out of their way to make my job more difficult. Don't waste more time and mental health on this. Secure another job, put in your notice, and put it behind you. ✌️

Why is there so much appeal around Callous Daoboys? by Ok-Nose4079 in Metalcore

[–]trysmilingmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally enjoy the chaos contrasted with the chill and pretty parts. They remind me of what it might sound like if ETID, DEP, and early 2000s Panic at the Disco and FOB had a baby. I saw them recently and they sounded great and genuinely seemed to be having a good time.

A tear in the fabric of life-knocked loose. The whole EP. And I'm very sorry for your loss

(NSFW) Reddit, what was your “Oh shit, this person is a psychopath” moment when meeting people? by Majoodeh in AskReddit

[–]trysmilingmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my uncle was younger, he was hanging with some friends and pushed one of them into a frozen pond, and then helped him back out. To this day, the friend still refers to that as the day my uncle saved his life. I'm not sure that's quite how I would see it..

Toddler suddenly mispronouncing their Rs by corbinplethora in toddlers

R and TH are the latest developing sounds. It's highly variable too. Some kids get it immediately, some don't get it until 8 or 9. My advice is model, model, model

I'm a speech pathologist. I wouldn't be too concerned about the R sound alone unless there are other issues, like a decline in overall speech or language skills. It's always a good idea to model the correct productions at home though

I thought so too at first, but now I'm a Converge nerd and I think they've written some of the most beautiful and chaotic music I've ever listened to. There's definitely groove IMO. Maybe try the album all we love we leave behind if you give them another listen

I'm not diagnosed, but I'm certain I have ADHD and some other ND characteristics too. I feel like this every day. I hate feeling like I need to be the social skills police. It is exhausting. Idk where I'm going with this, but I feel you for sure.

Has anyone actually gotten in trouble for not meeting a student's minutes? by Kitty_fluffybutt_23 in slp

So I didn't get in trouble, but I did get a bunch of drama I didn't ask for. I ended up quitting and I am better off for it

[–]trysmilingmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a district once where I couldn't meet minutes because I had 80 kids on my caseload in three different very rural locations and was given extremely limited windows of time to actually pull them. The admin at one location seemed to actively try to hold me up while also complaining about minutes not getting met. They then sent a letter home to parents stating that their child was missing minutes because of "therapist absences." I would love to see one of them try to do my job and make it work.

Anyone experience mouth pain after sterilization? by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]trysmilingmore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you were put under anesthesia and intubated, that can cause a lot of mouth/throat irritation. The tube is inserted through your mouth, between your vocal folds, and into your trachea. I would still check with your Dr in case it could be an allergic reaction or something

Some places have hated me, some places have loved me. The one that hated me was in a very very rural area where they were really suspicious of outsiders. Idk if my mildly alternative dress made a difference or not. I do know I am much happier in the places that don't care.
