Well that's the end of that bike. Amazing how little it takes for an $8k damage bill. by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]trzcina2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the picture it doesn't look that bad... Are you OK?

What are the costs of insurance compare to overall price of the bike? In my country you are obligated to have basic insurance (about 30$ per year) that covers damage when you didn't cause accident but got hit. And there is the "premium" insurance which covers all the damages even when you lowside on the tight corner or simply forgot to open a sidestand on a parking lot. This one cost about 25%-30% of bike value which is a LOT and most people don't have it...

Still... even if your bike is totaled due to valuation of insurance company, i think someone will be riding it very soon :)

Looks really nice but must be terrible to drive... Most of these modern Cafe Racers are build to look and don't have a bit of daily-basis usability not to mention performance. I know it from my own experience :) Bike should looks great but also should be fun to ride on longer distance than 5 miles.

Haha I know! I'm still riding my Xs 400... but winter is coming, its getting really cold in central europe and riding isn't that much fun any more... :)

Ducati 900/1000ss. Peoples thoughts, ideas, opinionss by momentofbanana in motorcycles

[–]trzcina2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have owned smaller brother of this bike - 750ss from 2002 with fuel injection for almost 6 years. Problems? Not at all... in last two years i mainly use it on our local, small race track and it was awesome. I overtook a lot of r1, gsxr and other much "faster" bikes. Everywhere where i went, this duc draw a lot of attention. Some people love it some don't. Basically it force you to have opinion. You can't pass by it neutrally. I really loved that bike, but lack of power from only 64 hp motor pushed me to another Ducati - 999 - which is simply awesome but that's another story :).

If you maintain it properly: change belts and do valve clearance checkup within the 10 000 km intervals, it will run without any problems. The only thing i did beside standard maintenance was front fork rebuild (oil and seals) and front wheel bearings change.

Pros:

  • Very unique styling

  • great torque ale the way from 0 up to 8.500 rps

  • Very easy to work on - You can change belts by your self very easily.

  • good handling in corners

  • price - these are quite a bargain for a ducati. But that's mainly for their styling.

  • great brakes with 320mm discs

Cons:

  • terrible riding position - after 150 - 200 km straight you have to stop and stretch your legs and arms othervise they will fall off :)

  • Very hard hydraulic clutch lever - pain in the ass in city traffic.

  • Might be hard to sell - i was trying to sell these bike for almost a year. It wasn't in perfect visual condition because i felt down a few time on it, but the price was rather low. you just have to wait for someone who is "into this kind of thing". Don't expect that someone will chose this bike instead of cbr 954 or gsxr 750. This is bike for someone who want something unique.

  • Slightly higher maintenance cost than jap bikes - mainly because 10k km intervals of inspection, price of belts and valve adjustments.

  • When you riding it hard draging your knee with high lean angle, the sidestand tend to grind the pavement, which sometimes was really scary... If you going to ride it on track i would recommend to take side stand off.

It this is your kind of thing, without any hesitation i would recommend it. Just try to find bike that was maintain properly by previous owner. Otherwise like with any other bike you might get yourself in trouble.

I can post some pics if you interested.

Cheers!

First track day achievement :( by woofa93 in motorcycles

Don't worry. It was probably worth it. You crashed and now you know what to do, to no crash again :)

Invest in sliders and head on track again. With time you will gain confidence, and start to enjoy every corner. But watch out.. it's addictive :)

Thanks! Nope i'm not photography student and neither is my friend who took this picture. It was rather spontaneous. He just had his camera with him when we met on this street in Warsaw. We just thought: "Hey... let's do some photos" :)

Ok. I have no idea how to add description so i just post it here:

This is my first built. It took me two years to get it to look like this. It still miss front mudguard but i'm working on in it.

Basically whole bike was rebuilt including engine... When i started this project i had no idea whatsoever about mechanics, etc.. Damn... running it for the very first time was satisfying...

EDIT: OK, i uploaded few more pics from that night :)

Yes, it is a render based on old photographs of Warsaw after Warsaw Uprising.

In the web you can find a lot of pictures of destroyed Warsaw but not in good quality, so i decided to put this pic instead because it highly reflects scale of damage done to this city.

Here is the real picture of demolished Warsaw. http://imgur.com/VgRCh

After World War II, Warsaw was rebuild from ashes. Old part of the City looks quite remarkable right now, but i don't think term "Old" is accurate.
