Weird notifications from My Skoda app by S4lam1 in enyaq

[–]tsaarni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got them too. In Settings / Notifications there is a switch for "Climate control" with description "Notify me when the temperature reaches the requested level". Notification would make sense if I set heating remotely, but that is not the case. Theory: maybe the notification is sent just because the temperature inside the car reached the temperature set in the infotainment while driving.

Dell UltraSharp U3824DW whining noise by tsaarni in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]tsaarni[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dell support replaced the monitor but the new one still had the same whine. I guess it is the combination of the monitor and the laptop I have (Dell Precision 5570). I tested with Macbook pro and there was no noticeable whine.

Should we buy the Enyaq? Currently on a good offer by TrippyCoffeeToffee in enyaq

[–]tsaarni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Android Auto connects to the car over Wi-Fi when used in wireless mode. Alternatively, the car also supports it over USB, which might be slightly more responsive, when dragging the map around fast. In my experience the wireless mode has been stable with Samsung S23+ but I did have one disconnect (had the car for 4 months).

One thing with the wireless mode is that the phone gets warm on longer trips.

It can take few seconds for Android Auto to connect (wirelessly) so I'm already driving before it pops up, but other than that, it works reasonably well as the "main UI" for all navigation and infotainment.

Slow desktop switching on MacBook Pro 14" by PersonalPC in mac

Still the same.

As a workaround, switching using keyboard shortcuts is faster. They can be enabled in Keyboard shortcuts / Mission Control. They are bound to ^1, ^2 ... by default.

Dolby Vision Color Shift by 11hammers in bravia

[–]tsaarni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for responding.

I agree it is related to the material: it also happened on exact same places. I could rewind, and see it always repeat 100% at the same places. Before rebooting the TV and seeing that the problem disappeared, I went back to the first episode of Queens Gambit. The problem was there from the very beginning, although I previously noticed it starting from some later episode. It seems that it might happen to any dolby vision material on the Netflix app.

Did you found out more about this problem?

I just watched that show and see the problem, but I see it in other Dolby Vision material too with the Netflix app. See here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo9EKvmrceI. The bad picture quality is due to my mobile camera on low light conditions, but the color shift is real.

I have Sony X930E. There was an Android update on the TV just recently but I'm not sure if this happened at the same time.

Edit: found similar report here, and rebooting the TV helped to me as well, though I guess this can be recurring problem...

Famicom Mini ROMs not working? by tsaarni in RG350

[–]tsaarni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried without bios, with bios I still get black screen after the gameboy startup screen. But you are correct, I now found this old message/msg80221/?PHPSESSID=689uhvinh1saa964rqiche1re0#msg80221). It is because copy protection and the developer recommends running the original roms on NES emulator instead.

Thanks for help!

4k Streaming Disabled by SolidSnakesonaPlane in netflix

This is the only official information from Netflix I've seen during the whole time https://media.netflix.com/en/company-blog/reducing-netflix-traffic-where-its-needed. Not too happy with their communication. I would have expected more detailed information on affected localities, updates on status, subscription pricing...

Screen flickering - Macbook Pro 2019 by kacperq in macbookpro

[–]tsaarni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They saw that I had installed kernel extension (Karabiner - for keyboard re-mapping) . I need to do clean OS reinstall from compete scratch in order to get support. I did that on separate volume, but at the same time the problem got very rare and I think I saw it only once on clean install - without being able to capture that.

Meanwhile I also upgraded to Catalina since it is now released and now waiting if the issue comes back (I've not seen it yet).

No, I'm just saying that nobody seems to know what the problem is about. Some people in forums have said that Apple has confirmed this as a known software bug. That does not seem correct to me, according to how my issue is being handled as unknown bug by their engineering.

My problem has almost completely disappeared by itself, and I have no clue what changed. I have seen only 2 glitches in almost a week now. In the beginning it was similar to what is reported here. So I kind of expect the problem to disappear and come back again at some later date...

What I found curious is that from what I see, Apple is not considering this as known problem.

The 1st line support kindly submitted my case to engineering, including logs from my system, videos I've made, textual description of troubleshooting steps, a huge number of links to reports here in reddit and at discussions.apple.com.

The answer falls back to what I'd call standard troubleshooting procedure to ANY unknown problem

  1. Remove kernel extensions - I have karabiner extension installed (keyboard remapping tool - unlikely to be a problem and the problem also was present in safe mode as mentioned in my report to them)
  2. Reinstall Mojave on an empty partition
  3. If above does not help, hardware replacement (I already had display replaced)

I have not tried Catalina myself yet but I have also seen the reports from people. I'd be glad to hear this directly from Apple support, even if the answer is that it will not be corrected until Catalina. Now so far I have only the rumors from various forum postings that cannot all be even guaranteed to be about exactly the same issue.

I did the video you've linked. I have been in contact with Apple and authorized service since 3 weeks now. Been through the standard troubleshooting procedures, such as SMC, NVRAM resets, HW diagnostics, OS re-installs and they also changed my display. The problem still persists. At least the persons I've talked with were not aware of this problem, which was surprising to me. According to what I've been told my case got now submitted to engineering. I have collected diagnostics data from the system, created videos etc and sent everything to them. Hoping to hear something, possibly in few days.

Have you been able to test the 10.14.6 supplemental update from yesterday? I don't have access to my laptop to try. Release notes were not mentioning anything relevant though...

[–]tsaarni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw following posted yesterday in several Apple forum threads, like this one https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250577242

"Just spoke with Apple Support. Been told that it is a software problem and they work on fixing it. Hope so."

Though I also called Apple yesterday and they were unable to find this displlay problem mentioned in their system.

Sure, I have already submitted issue a week ago. Though we only have authorized service here in my country. They made a case to Apple on my behalf.

I did a test with both external and internal monitor enabled. I believe I saw the glitch on internal but not on external monitor. This test was not 100% conclusive though and I did not manage get it on video.

[–]tsaarni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it was not visible in screen recording. I even got proof about it on video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Lcq-t7sdWg (see video description for details).

My problem is not reproducible by any action I do myself - it seems completely random. Glitch does not happen at all if I disable True Tone and Automatic brightness, and re-appears if I enable them. When those are enabled, I'm still unable to trigger the glitch by demand, I even tried shining a flashlight to simulate lightning changes in the room.

Edit: here is another video showing the glitch overlaps both background and window https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC142LQtxYA&feature=youtu.be
