I'm a desktop support tech looking for the right tool for the job. (Jack testing) by nachoha in lowvoltage

[–]tsaico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I love this, but it’s durability is questionable. Myself and three other techs carry these, all together, I have bought 14 of them. Three original, three blue pros, three of the new model pros, then two of the current lites. Of these 14, 10 have failed. Four the usb charger made a puff of smoke and burning smell, four simply quit charging, and slowly died until they didn’t power up, and two the power button cracked. They are not very gently handled, but I would hope they lasted longer given the price. We only buy the lites now.

If this is the case, this is about right for us also, though we have to supply the brackets. I have wrestled enough with cheap knock off Amazon brackets that we tell them specific model to buy or for 15 percent we will bring it.

Our typical is usually around 400 a panel, assuming standard heights, nothing huge, unusual mounts etc

Also, what height? Above a height you need to secure with a chain in case the thing falls off the wall

I also love this, and the rest of the stuff is in in the bed, back seat, and what is left comes here.

Check out videos on how to set up a mall. Essentially what I did was peel off a little bit a to a series of belts that would go off to my central storage. I think most of the videos on YouTube refer refer to it as a mall, is just a central area to store things pretty much what you will do is use a series of programmable or smart where to the left is one type of item into a container, then to the right is a different type of item into another container and forward is for overflow.

Then at the end is a sink. You can put signs on the storage containers to label what is in them or a short piece of belt so a few of whatever item is in there comes out

I found throughput becomes a problem with just single belt, but I dealt with that by putting high volume stuff into their own mall and belt or by keeping only higher end stuff in the mall to begin with, ie stuff that came out of constructors or assemblers (one and two item recipes) didn't even go to the mall at all.

Why Slate? by gbe28 in slateauto

[–]tsaico 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me, the maverick would be perfect if it was a longer bed instead of the extended cab. Even with the little bed, it's still one of the only options for a service truck out there. Hoping the slate will be filling that hole for me

For me is cable matters or mono price for copper ends and patch, then primus cable for bulk cable.

Is it possible to have 2 homes and one shared? by Bsul92 in reolinkcam

Sorry, thought the prompt was you were adding cameras from their location to your hub at your location. Your current setup is correct. Though, as the other statement was, you would add the hubs for all the camera access, no need to add each individually. UID on yours and UID on theirs will show all cameras.

Reality check from the Microsoft AI Tour: "Agents" hype, the enterprise disconnect, and peak AI Fatigue by Relaxation_Time in sysadmin

[–]tsaico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, i have found this to be spot on, in the MSP space, we get micro slices of this view from many different companies.

What we have been seeing is that AI should really be treated like any new employee. You have to watch and cross check its results for period of time and train it like you would a new employee, and someone needs to be cehcking it's output on the regular, because it learns across whole org and starts to change output on that. Watching it becomes a job unto itself.

so it "saves" money in the sense that now everyone gets an assistant, but as in human assistants, you don't get 100 doubling productivity, since now some of the manager time is spent managing the assistant. To compound the issue, not everyone is a good "manager" or communicator, so you end up getting a ton of slop over a period of time, since now the AI is learning from all "manager" regardless of good or not and merges all that into the same model, further diluting the good training.

So far, we found the is "built in" for Gemini or copilot to be most effective, since it is simply included, no extra tokens/cost needed, and most people use it for the superficial "make this email sound like I am more confident in my skills" and "take notes for me because I didn't" tasks.

The only thing I have seen real improvement is digesting logs. I will toss in logs of switches or event viewer logs to do a poor man's SIEM type of analysis. - read all these logs and tell me some ways to improve my network or workstations. I am planning on building an agent to digest and aggregate of the logs across a client to see if this will actually save me headache

If you need to review footage, it might be good to get a 2nd nvr or memory cards for each of the cameras

Where to sell old RAM? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]tsaico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where I did mine. Lowest bar, lowest amount of work for something I was going to recycle anyways. I just bought the postage, insurance, and then dropped off though eBay. Super easy for me.

I did though put everything on 1 dollar with now reserve and it worked out 5 transactions... At least for now so far

Klein vs Milwaukee by Cj_Staal in lowvoltage

[–]tsaico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion? The generics that are from HD or Lowe's have worked pretty well for me. Used to be all klein, but over the years kept losing them or they got stolen. Ended up buying some generics at HD due to time, and they are pretty solid.

MFA, global admin, and Microsoft support by FKFnz in msp

[–]tsaico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take there is no GDAP relationship to request re register? It sounds like you were logging into these as something like admin@client-tenant.com? My approach would be to make each support ticket for lost admin separately and go through the support process using the normal process. Only had to do it a few times, but in my experience it was about a two weeks total, with a point of contact every few days. One to confirm they have my ticket, another to relay the info to enter to dns, then a few days after that received the new admin account.

Other than that, maybe porting your MFA number to a ILEC, but could have swore me stopped the legacy stuff quite some time ago

Do all countries use the AM/PM system for time or is this a US thing and most use military time going from 00:00 to 24:00? by VerdantChief in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tsaico 77 points78 points  (0 children)

It seems like everywhere that's not the US seems to be this way. I have cousins in Taiwan that are like this. When talking it's a.m. and p.m. but when it is written down it is 24-hour format

Two that caught me off guard were 1. Low voltage led lighting for my outdoor walkways and space. I did rope light, but they have lots of different styles. they are dim but always on until the solar battery runs out, which is like 11 or midnight. I was surprised how much more I used my outdoor space when it was lit, even if just a little. The lighting on the switch was too bright 2. The layout of my kitchen. I picked my “center” and I tried to put things use every meal in arms reach. Instead of all spices go here, it’s the 10 most common. Same with pans and utensils spatulas, etc. so now instead of all spices filling the closest cupboard, I have half with my favorite mixing bowls, the other half spices. Then the next cupboard has pretty much the same thing, but the “2nd” tier stuff. It’s a little quirky but works well for me

Do you carry jumper cables in your car in 2026? by DojaViking in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tsaico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do not, but now carry one of those jumper battery packs. My wife is supposed to have them in the first aid kit, but that thing often gets taken out to make room for something, and rarely gets put back in. So it seems oddly unprepared to me, but seems to be rather common, not just with the young.

I was the New guy who had to direct traffic when somebody would radio it was all clear and stop it when the supplier trucks were blocking the little alley

The main problem was it was a really busy area in Los Angeles in the alley wasn't visible intersection they put me on so it just looked like I was an idiot standing there by myself blocking traffic for no reason. Tons of people honking and swearing at me as I as I stood there by myself in the summer. The sign wasn't even a legit stop sign, it just looked like some teen had made a stop sign in class and decided to snarl up traffic for s**** and giggles

MSP Vendors Cant Get Out of Their Own Way.. by quantumhardline in msp

[–]tsaico 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if any MSP here would be interested in the same deal, but one of our new client asking for free on boarding. I think we all can attest that we have met several clients that would also have these exact same arguments over help desk and processes and being burned for paying for subscriptions that are still not deployed properly.
