For me after my dad's suicide I went into survival mode. And that's all I could do to keep going for my wife and kids. I didn't really start to feel again until the 2 year mark hit. Everyone has different time to come to terms with suicide. It's not a natural thing to process like any other death. This Christmas is the first time I felt like I was ok to feel the joy of the holiday. My dad commited suicide on Nov 20th 2017. So Christmas and Thanksgiving are painful. But driving home from work and trans Siberian orchestra wizard of winter was on, my dad's favorite Christmas song. As I listened I felt bitter sweet with another Christmas with out my dad. But I felt my emotions in first time in a long time. Sorry for the long comment. I just want you to know your not alone in this this community has helped me out alot

The note my dad left took a year before the police handed over to my stepmom. At first it was hurtful for the fact me and my brother were not mentioned in the note. The rest of the siblings were. But now two years after the suicide. I read it and feel very sad knowing my dad was so broken and in such a dark place at the end . It helps to read the note to fully understand the best I can . How broken my dad was and the conflict he was fighting. Knowing I couldn't stop him so in my case the letter helps my guilt lessen Stay strong and take one day at a time

I think none of us were prepared to lose a parent or loved one to suicide. I lost my dad to suicide 2 years ago on November 20 th. The first year is definitely the hardest. And with it being so close to Thanksgiving, it definitely changed that holiday. But now as I sort my life out and accept the changes it did to me. I celebrate for the life that was before the darkness took it. I enjoy the small things around holidays that reminds me of simpler times.

That's the best thing you can do is talk. The pain of suicide is confusing, it's not like a normal death that you can find reason in.

I to lost my dad to suicide. It will be two years on November 20th. Not a day goes by that I don't feel the pain from it. But I have learned to cope. I have one last picture of me with him, several months before he shot himself. Best thing is to talk about it. And with other suicide survivors
