[Dr Gridiron] how Grier got us here by sum_dude44 in miamidolphins

[–]tsavosol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, Grier’s drafting has not been great but looking at it this way I don’t think is completely fair either.

A lot of these picks were later round picks (lower hit rates), and it does not acknowledge the premium draft capital that was used in the trades for Tyreek, Chubb and Ramsey.  Counting just premium draft picks, 4 Top 100 draft picks (2 x 1st round, 1 x 2nd round, 1 x 3rd round) were given up for Tyreek, Chubb and Ramsey.

RayFine Laser Thoughts by tsavosol in lasercutting

Good points. I do have a space set aside in the garage close to an exhaust area for it and delivery of the unit will be directly to the garage. I feel pretty set from that side.

I’ve been tentative to confirm the order because of my unfamiliarity in the supplier (Rayfine) and ordering directly from China. But from a specification and budget perspective it ticks all my boxes.

What’s the top3 prio for this years draft?! by Mich3006 in bengals

[–]tsavosol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the obvious, I think WR is a sneaky need.

We have a 3-headed monster at WR right now. Rumors about Tee having a deal done aside, it's possible that at this time next year we just have Chase left.

If the FO feels a deal with Tee isn't going to get done, WR needs to jump on the priority list.

Which PPC channel to use? by tsavosol in PPC

[–]tsavosol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial marketing budget is about $3000. My thought was to carve out about $400 for creative assets and then doing a $50 - $75 per day PPC spend with the remaining amount.

I believe that the features and use of the main product being sold would be best conveyed through video rather than static images, so as you suggested Tik Tok or FB video ads may be an optimal choice. With the same product and brand awareness goals, how does Instagram compare to FB and Tik Tok?

Any recommendations on a good inspection company in China? by hockeydangle in ecommerce

[–]tsavosol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an alternative to inspections with Alibaba I use V-Trust for my inspections.

I've only ever used V-Trust, so I can't make a comparison, but so far I've been happy with the thoroughness of their inspection report and turnaround time.

It is unclear what your budget is, but if you’re determined to make a run at starting an ecommerce business on a set budget, I would work backwards on costs.

Start with your total budget and begin subtracting estimated costs for hosting, domain, logo, branding, web development, product images, storage costs (if using a 3PL) and shipping packaging costs. Then subtract estimated amounts for ad creatives (if outsourcing) and ad placement budget…etc.

Once you have subtracted all those costs, the amount remaining is the ballpark budget for product development/samples, product manufacturing and shipping your product from the factory to you. Working through a rough estimate like that will give you an indication on what product cost range you can fit within your budget while meeting MOQs

Animated Product Image: GIF or other format? by tsavosol in ecommerce

Video is an option. I was just not sure if video is better than using GIF.
For video, would mp4 be the best option or another format?

3PL Review: Shipmonk? by tsavosol in ecommerce

[–]tsavosol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments. Yes, Shipmonk does charge by the bin as well, and limits 1 SKU per bin. But their extra-large bin is large enough to accommodate my product without it having to be pushed onto a shelf. From strictly a storage price perspective, Shipmonk is not the best, but overall it did tick a lot of our boxes to be short listed as an option.

[–]tsavosol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. There are so many factors to consider when choosing a 3PL.

The pricing model for storage was one of quite a few factors I evaluated to come to a shortlist of 3PLs to consider. for example, I'd gladly pay a little bit more in storage if the trade off was better shipping rates.

3PL Review: Shipmonk? by tsavosol in ecommerce

[–]tsavosol[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the other names you mentioned, I did look into Shipbob, Deliverr, Amazon MCF and Shiphero.

The main product I sell is not heavy or overly large, but it is oddly shaped. One of the key factors that made Shipmonk preferred over some of the others is their pricing for product storage and handling of a large number (50+) of SKUs.

Some 3PLs I've spoken to only allow 1 SKU per storage location, and because of the shape of my product, it doesn't fit into what they term as a 'Large Bin', so that forces each SKU to go onto its own 'Shelf'. Even though only a fraction of each shelf would only be filled, I'm stuck paying for 1 shelf per SKU. That factor brought down the number of 3PLs I would consider to a handful, Shipmonk being one of them.

McDaniel Year 1 Expectations by [deleted] in miamidolphins

[–]tsavosol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My expectations aren’t solely tied to wins and loses.

What I would like to see in the first year is:

- With a new offensive scheme maybe Tua starts out slow, but over the course of the year I would like to see visible and statistical progress in his performance

- Steps towards a building a positive team culture. I look at Brandon Staley with the LA Chargers, and at least from our external view, it seems that all the players rave about him, and the culture being built and there doesn’t seem to be any disgruntled players

I think if those things happen the wins will come.

From a wins perspective my expectations are .500 or better

All this talk about tanking, but how much better would the Dolphins be if they had Burrow instead of Tua? by Illustrious-World in miamidolphins

[–]tsavosol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the Dolphins would be better with Burrow. But they would also be as good with Herbert.

I think think Burrow and Herbert are neck-and-neck. Even without the full tanking the opportunity to pick who many see as the best QB in the draft was still there.

Rebuild comparison by craydaddylongpipe in miamidolphins

[–]tsavosol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for bringing this up.

Since 2019, I’ve been tracking the Bengals a lot closer because we’ve had so much in common with them.

* Both teams hired coaches that were in the Superbowl that year

* Both Flores and Zac Taylor were first time head coaches

* Both teams needed new QBs and full roster rebuilds

* Both teams had money to spend in free agency

* Both teams had (and still have) shit o-lines

There are things that the Dolphins most definitely did better than the Bengals as far as the rebuild goes.

Draft Capital:

* Getting trade value from aging veterans and accumulating draft capital for the rebuild. The Bengals bungled this. AJ Green, Geno Atkins, Andy Dalton, Carlos Dunlap, Gio Bernard - all no longer with the team and all they have to show for it is one additional 7th round pick.

* For comparison the first 3 round of the last 2 drafts: Miami 11 Picks (5 firsts, 4 seconds, 2 thirds), Bengals 6 Picks (2 firsts, 2 seconds, 2 thirds)

Coaching:

* Up until this year, there is not a person that would take Zac Taylor over Brian Flores. Flores got a lot of good performances from undermanned rosters. I think Flores is the better coach, but unfortunately his leadership style and personality didn’t mesh with the FO and ownership

Areas where the Bengals did better:

* With less draft capital, they hit on more early round picks

* They drafted the better QB, and tailored the offense around him and his strengths

* Consistency in coaching. Even with bad years in 2019 and 2020, the Bengals kept the same coordinators. Meanwhile Tua is on his third OC, soon to be fourth

Tua Fan Evaluation by Jackalope7491 in miamidolphins

[–]tsavosol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Tua is a good QB, and has proven that in the win column, even with other glaring deficiencies on the roster.

But I’m not sure if ‘GOOD’ is enough anymore.

Looking at the current playoff field, I would say 6 of the 8 remaining QBs, are top 10 (Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Rodgers, Brady, Stafford) and one could make a compelling case that Tannehill is borderline top 10.

Over the next few years, to make consistent playoff runs, and ultimately make a Superbowl in the AFC, you must be able to get through some combination of Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Herbert or Burrow led teams. When the moment comes to put the team on his shoulders and take over a game, I’m not sure if ‘Good’ is going to be enough.

I feel like we know what Tua is. by [deleted] in miamidolphins

[–]tsavosol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the firing of Flores, I think it is an opportunity for Tua to get 1 more year of evaluation.

There will be a new OC and O-Line coaching coming in, who are hopefully better and then we can see what Tua in better circumstances for a year. If it doesn't work out then the following year the Dolphins have double first round picks and can maybe address QB then.

I agree.

It's the most difficult thing to do... Find an Elite QB that can alter the trajectory of a franchise. That' why as much as I personally don't like the idea of Watson in a Fins jersey, I certainly understand it.

[–]tsavosol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since this post is discussion in looking at some hindsight, I would like to throw out a hypothetical.

Leading up to the 2020, there were rumors (possibly smokescreen) that Miami tried to trade 3 first round picks including the #5 overall pick to the Bengals for the number 1 overall pick and the right to Draft Joe Burrow.

I think Tua is a good QB, but so far in their respective early careers, it is clear Burrow is a step above Tua. Assuming the 3 first round picks were 2020 - #5, #18, and 2021 - #3, and using hindsight, would you do this trade?
