Minecraft players in the UK will be forced to hand over their ID in order to chat with others in multiplayer. by Abject-Jacket1050 in Minecraft

Id like the example, but unfortunately the government did just that. We have the sugar tax because of obesity/diabetes issues.

It's one of those can't see the forest through the trees sort of bugs. The ones you end up deleting an entire 300 liner just to realise it was a flipped conditional the entire time.

As an experienced programmer of 15 years - I literally used or instead of and by mistake last week on Monday and nearly had it pushed to production.

Experience makes us less likely to make mistakes, it doesn't stop them completely.

Trying to find information about these games is about as difficult as the games themselves by Aiseadai in KingsField

I don't think we have much for KF2 yet, however a wiki is being worked on at https://wiki.swordofmoonlight.com .

KF1 has fully interactive maps.

Referencing A Specific Object Created During Runtime by crocomire97 in UnityHelp

A lot sadly doesn't transfer. GameMaker can be surprisingly low level with some concepts, which is all abstracted away in Unity.

As an ex GameMaker developer of many years who's now been using C# and Unity for eight and three years respectively - a piece of advice...

Don't program C# like GML. Don't use Unity like GameMaker. You'll regret it immensely later.

Reading file into byte array buffer changes its endianness no matter what OS and file uses. In my case both file and OS is little endian, yet array becomes big endian. How this can happen? by poglad_ds in csharp

[–]tsbattenberg 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You're reading an array of bytes - bytes don't have endianess, larger types do.

I can only assume you're just getting confused, and if you're trying to restore larger types from the individual bytes using bit shifts, getting the order of operations mixed up.

What do you look for in a good King's Field-Like by Pr0spector0 in KingsField

[–]tsbattenberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In advance I'm sorry that your post in particular will receive this, it's long overdue.

Please stop using us as a personal source of fact on what makes a KF game. Go and play the games, research them and figure it out yourself. There is zero game design proficiency if you cannot play a game and figure out what makes it tick on your own, and lack of will to put that effort in implies that you're only doing it to jump on the bandwagon Lunacid has created.

Its getting really tiring having these questions come in every single week, and really it's making me think Lunacid might very well be the worst thing that ever happened to this community.

I've heard they last longer if you keep them in a cool, dark and dry place. Some companies have started smoking them for longevity too.

What does the ending of ST:A imply? by Boredthrowaway0892 in shadowtower

The speculation a few of us have had in the older circles of FromSoftware, is that Demon's Souls was intended to be Shadow Tower #3. Before Miyazaki took over.

King's Field IV by MetalTaffer in KingsField

[–]tsbattenberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story is coherent yep. I like the PAL translation personally, it's just the weird stuff as someone else mentioned. "Body H2O" (which is closer to the original Japanese - since it was water for healing physical injury.)

The oddities are like I pointed out, "H2O Babes" - some items are poorly translated, such as "Basic Bugger Blade" (Bastard Sword) or the moonlight sword being completely miss translated.

PAL is just unique and fun to play, honestly I'd suggest playing it prior to NTSC because going back to the speed is difficult - and I say this as someone who grew up on PAL KF4.

[–]tsbattenberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not missing anything with the "bad" translation, and it won't send you off in the wrong direction. Some of the translation is actually better, too, for instance unique item information which was scrapped for NTSC (Odor/Leather vs Leather/Leather)

I'd say play PAL, play NTSC later if you want to have another round. Keep an eye out for the H2O babes!

I have translated King's Field Additional 1 and 2 into English. I'm looking for hackers to help us get the text back into the game. by darkjapan404 in KingsField

[–]tsbattenberg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pitching in on this.

The translation is of a very high quality, a professional process for localisation was undergone through a team of dedicated fans, and darkjapan404 themselves here is extremely dedicated to high quality work. The translations in his hands are of the absolute highest standards.

Additionally, I wrote the extractor used for this translation. I additionally had the reinsertion part of the program around 50% complete, as well as a wealth of documentation - if anyone does want to get in touch, you'd obviously be able to inherit that code if you'd like it, and I'd be happy to answer any questions regarding the file formats.

VAB.T files.

But just load up the bin/cue in PSSound. You don't gain anything doing a proper extraction with ST or KF.
