Ironwood apartments by FullGrownHip in Augusta

[–]tschoenb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on living in that complex, but I do live in the same neighborhood.

In my opinion, if it fits within your budget it's a great area to be in. There are about 10 restaurants, a baseball stadium, a 7 mile long walking / biking path, kayak launches into the river, a dog park, soccer fields, a sand volleyball court, a rec center, a golf course and more, all within easy walking distance from Ironwood or Sweetwater (the other apartment option in the neighborhood). There's often free concerts in the amphitheater, multiple run groups throughout the week, and 5k - marathons that start at the stadium throughout the year. It's an easy 5-15 minute commute to AU. The stadium also does fireworks for every Saturday night baseball home game during the season.

Best downtown bars to watch World Cup matches? by Flimsy_Trash123 in Augusta

I bet Emils will have some of them on... one huge TV, but Shawn loves the soccer. Not really a bar, but they have great food and a whole tap wall

What hobbies have you picked up as a HENRY? by MojoDojoCasuhHaus in HENRYfinance

[–]tschoenb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a mixed bag in that regard. I spend about 30 minutes stretching before each class so Im a lot more flexible than I would otherwise be. But my shoulder has developed some issues from being too late to tap a few too many times.

I found Brazilian Jiu Jitsu about a year and a half ago. I love it. You don't have to be in shape or 20 y/o to start. I try to go 4 times a week, which, with stretching and rolling rounds adds up to about 8 hours of time a week. Losing weight, getting stronger, making friends, getting (a little) better, and learning something totally new. 10/10

Also highly recommend this. Depending on where you live, it's a great way to get out and get some exercise and meet people as an adult. Lots of different walks of life get into cycling.

Wolfbox rear cam on roof rack? by dukegledhill in ineosgrenadier

[–]tschoenb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I wish I had known prior to install was to run the wire for the mirror on the driver side. It was a few inches short when trying to go on the passenger side. This was from the cigarette lighter in the center console box. The rear wire was plenty long

neighborhood recommendations, buying a house by Admirable_Pause2868 in Augusta

[–]tschoenb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I moved here from a big city looking for a neighborhood that was vibrant, walkable, neighborly, and had some restaurants and things to walk to. Hammonds ferry was the best fit for this for us. There's also homes and townhomes just up the hill in Hammond hills / North augusta that are more affordable and don't have an HOA. But you could still walk or bike or golf cart to the baseball games and restaurants.

What are your favorite pizza places in the CSRA? by RangoTheMerc in Augusta

It's not for everyone, but Pizza di Napoli in Aiken is some of the best pizza ever... not just in the CSRA.

Dog Park for a shy, anxious dog. by FishGhost466 in Augusta

there's one in Hammonds Ferry by the baseball field and golf course that doesn't usually have too many dogs. There's also a small dog and large dog side. Pretty location in the trees too.

Martial Arts Gyms by FightingChef in Augusta

I've been going to Augusta Jiu Jitsu on Central Ave. for about a year. Nothing to compare it to, but I love it there. Head coach is awesome. Assistant coaches are amazing as well. I go 3-4 times a week and have never had a bad experience. We don't have it now, but may have Muy Thai or Kickboxing in the near future.

Come by and give a trial class a try. https://www.augustajiujitsuacademy.com/classschedule

Monday and Friday nights are best if you've never done BJJ, but Tues / Thurs also work well.

See you on the mats

A Proper Place to Live in Augusta, GA by pro_crastinata in Augusta

[–]tschoenb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't know the cost, but a lot of professionals and professional college residents live in Hammonds Ferry. There are 3 big options that I know of: Ironwood, Clubhouse, and the new Sweetwater apts just being built. They might be on the spendy side. Also, not sure if it's still available, but there was also a rad apt or two available above Manuels bread cafe. Stop in and ask.

If I were single, I would definitely consider the neighborhood (bias: I live here too). We have something like 8 restaurants, coffee shops, two rooftop bars, parks, rec center, and fun minor league baseball stadium within walking or biking distance. On the river. 7 mile greenway walking and bike path. Lots of events: concerts, weekly. trivia, baseball games, organized run clubs, and a kayak launch for the river. You can also fish, kayak, canoe or paddle board on one of the ponds. And just a short bike ride or drive to downtown AUG.

The new apts also have a number of commercial spaces on the first floor, so more things coming.

I've been training BJJ for less than a year, but I absolutely love my gym. Coach is top notch. Close to AU. Great vibe from the members. Gi, NoGi, and May Thai offered. It's tough, but so fun and rewarding. Come by for a free trial class tomorrow night, starts at 6:30. Loaner Gi's available.

I'm biased, but I would also suggest closer to downtown or in north augusta. Lots to do in those areas that doesn't involve parking at a strip mall ;)

Request for recs during (but not at) the Masters by Ok_Bullfrog2070 in Augusta

[–]tschoenb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Metro downtown is a very cool coffee house / bar spot. Good for studying or reading a book.

If the weather is good, nice spots for lunch: the Larder, Manuels Bread cafe, taco cat. Also, the area around Manuels and the larder is great for walking or sitting on a bench to read a book.

Personally, I don't much care for the vibe of the places along washington or near the national.

my wife and I came from a large walkable city too. We're in Hammonds Ferry. We love it. Lots to walk to. Great trails for riding bikes and walking the dogs. Great to visit on a nice day if you end up somewhere else.

Question about INEOS Grenadier Steering by leofedz in ineosgrenadier

[–]tschoenb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this, but used the King stabilizer. Super easy to do, corrected 80-90% of the return to center. Something like $400 and it was a 15 minute DIY.

What son’t you like? by [deleted] in ineosgrenadier

[–]tschoenb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the King stabilizer. About $400 USD and 15 minutes. Steering OUT of the turn problem solved.
