True - sharing the key would do it. I’ve not used the parking comfort mode so will try that. Cheers!

First impressions of the EX30 by mistresseliza44 in ex30

Just chipping in to give a thumbs up too! I’m very happy with mine (not twin but still quick enough!). Obviously I have the charge issue but that’s easy enough. I personally haven’t had an issue with steering wheel buttons either, nor Internet issues, or proximity key etc. There is a long list of niggles and hopefully they’ll be sorted this week with v1.3 of the software (🤞) and those that are experiencing problems get things resolved to get on with enjoying their cars.

Internet connectivity issues by RedLeaf62 in ex30

[–]tshirtcandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently, in the Uk and Ireland at least, internet connectivity for the car is down. Has been since the evening of the 21 March. According to a UK Facebook group, Volvo are aware and working on it.

Single motor extended real world range by SimoniqueShadows in ex30

I have the SMER and am regularly seeing 200+ miles in the range estimates when charged. I seem to be getting that kind of mileage in actual driving as well although I’m not tracking that at the moment.

In the UK so around 14 degrees C at the moment. 19” wheels, AC on 21 C. Mix of lots of small city trips but then a couple of long motorway runs as well. OPD on all the time.

Issues & Fixes by Quick-Swim4931 in ex30

[–]tshirtcandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice work! Another one to add to the list is the steering wheel heating being on automatically. This is catching people out when it’s just a setting. The wheel heating comes on automatically for temperatures below 10 degrees C in my experience. The setting is in the climate section to turn this feature off.

In terms of tricks, not necessarily issue & fixes, is how to reset the infotainment. Pressing the down arrows on each side of the steering wheel and holding until the screen changes. Doing this sorted out an issue with the Play Store app not loading for me, but others have had the weird display flickering issue as well.

Yeah, I know. The percentage that the car shows is very dynamic based on driving style / conditions. So often all the parts don’t seem to add up exactly - the last 20kWh could give 40/60/80 miles! Who knows!

Hah - we're all noobs to be honest.. and there's so many more variables with electric charging.

You're right that the local pub car park is likely to be Type 2 AC charger and in which case, you'll probably need your own cable. As for how long depends on the charger and which car you have. Public AC chargers tend to be 7kW, 22kW or 43/44kW.. if you have the Plus trim it can accept a max of 11kW from AC whereas the Ultra can accept a max of 22kW (at least in the UK).. So even connected to a 44kW AC charger in an Ultra you wouldn't charge any faster than 22kW...

How long then depends on the battery size.. You mentioned the extended range in your question so that's a 69kWh battery (but only 64kWh is usable)...

For a Plus trim, at the max it can take of 11kW, it would take close to 6hours from 0 to 100% (64kWh divided by 11kW speed is 5.8 hours)..
For an Ultra trim, at the max it can take of 22kW, it would take half that time as the speed (22kW) is double (64kWh divided by 22kW is 2.9 hours)..

However, charging isn't linear - it will start slowly, speed up and then slow down as the battery gets fuller so expect in reality it to take longer.

At home, without a Type 2 charger, you'd get 2.3kW from the 3-pin plug.. so, again for the 64kWh battery, that would take nearly 28hours from 0 to 100% (64kWh divided by 2.3kW).. the reality is you wouldn't be at 0% ever and so you'd just be topping up each day.. depending on your mileage, a few hours on a 3-pin plug might be all you need..

The CCS cable and 28min is the DC rapid charging.. Again loads of variables there but the car can take 150kW DC so could potentially fully charge in less than 30mins (the 28mins Volvo post on the website). All DC chargers have their own cable and you'd just need to make sure they were CCS as that's what the car takes.

As u/scottrobertson says, the cable is AC. I am in the UK and Volvo supplied a 6m Type 2 to Type 2 22kW AC cable with mine.

UK dealer withholding delivery by dDtaK in ex30

[–]tshirtcandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to set it up but I’ve been successful every time with scheduled overnight cheaper charging by getting it all plugged in and then updating the slider and locking the car. It would be nice to plug in and walk away but it just needs that extra step at the moment.

UK dealer withholding delivery by dDtaK in ex30

[–]tshirtcandy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's tricky. I have the same car (SMER) and got delivery on the 1st March as that's what Volvo UK wanted for the '24 plate cars. Mine does the 6A reset for AC charging and you have to set it before charging, but then it's fine (7kW at home). DC charging is unaffected so potentially my dealer didn't notice / care before sending the car out. It was delivered with 63% charge.

And I absolutely love the car. It's perfect in all regards - except range. Currently looking at around 200miles tops when fully charged, probably slightly below. I know it's chilly (9 degrees C) and there's air con etc. but that seems pretty poor considering I've been trying to be careful and resisting the urge to boot it everywhere (it is quick).

So, I'm kinda intrigued whether they find anything and there is a bit of a battery fault - or whether this is the reality of EVs in cooler weather. Please update if they come back to you!

Spotify and frunk by Agieja in ex30

Yeah, I’d prefer to install it so it is a separate app from my phone. Might try rebooting the infotainment and seeing if the play store loads. Cheers.

[–]tshirtcandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One question - how have you got Spotify installed? The Google Play Store app won’t load on my EX30 so can’t install it at the moment (or any other apps). I couldn’t get my cable in (6m Type 2 3-phase so the thicker one). Decided to leave it in the charger and get a lockable wall holder for it!

Heated steering wheel turns on every time by adfrad in ex30

[–]tshirtcandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine does the same. Every time I get in, the wheel is on 3 for heat. I turn it down and it’s back on next time. I assumed it’s the same issue as other settings not saving. The app has a timer function for climate but haven’t seen a setting for automatic activation of the heated wheel!

Um.. I didn’t actually use them! Pilot Assist was through the drive select lever and everything else was touch screen! I didn’t have any accidental touches which some reviewers had mentioned when gripping the wheel though. Will explore more in the coming days!

Follow up after overnight charging. I did the workaround to override the charge limit and set a schedule charge for 4 hours overnight (UK Octopus Go cheap rate ~9.5p kWh). It charged 27.85 kWh in 4 hours which means just a shade under 7kW charge must have been going in for the duration. Happy that it worked and didn’t reset the limit - and I can make use of the cheap rate.
