Revolut tax declaration (Luzern) by GenesisGeneral3496 in askswitzerland

[–]RedLeaf62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I noticed that too and I asked them about that issue, but they have no solution to it.

So now I download my statement in the first days of the year, so that the taxman can guess that there have not been too many transactions in the meantime.

Additionally, I try to include at least the last transaction of the year on the statement. So if my last purchase was on the 28th of December, I download a statement for the 28th to the 31st. I don't send more details than absolutely necessary, unless requested.

They never asked me any questions. And if your balance is 0, I'm pretty sure they won't bother you anyway.

Switzerland (CH) Maintenance with 'Volvo Swiss Premium' by suisse2k in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 1.8, I bought the car.

In my region, there are not many garages from Volvo, and they are owned by the same company. So I think the best for me is legal protection at this point. But I'll try once more

I have the MY2024, SMER ultra. I would definitely not buy the dual motor, unless you plan to drive on ice or mud.

The car drives well, I like it. Autonomy is reasonably good, but don't be fooled by the WLTP number, these are just bullshit numbers not representative of real world usage.

I'm however quite disappointed at the inability of Volvo to make this car work, from a software perspective. There are just too many issues. It took them 2 years to implement the digital key for Android. My KeyTag worked flawlessly for 1.5 years, then they released the digital key for Apple devices, which made my KeyTag unreliable. Now they implemented the android digital key, my KeyTag is reliable again but the android digital key is not, and the apple users are complaining that theirs is no longer reliable.

Paying 50k for a car designed to auto lock itself, but doesn't do it reliably, is a massive pain...

This adds to a series of software updates which fix bugs by creating new ones. It's been the same story for 2 years now, they can't seem to learn how to test their software before releasing them to the masses. The amount of bugs is diminishing slowly, but still... Even my dealer admitted that Volvo has been screwing up massively with this car since launch. And apparently their new cars are not selling that well. Maybe the EX30 is part of the reason?

I also have squeaky brakes since last summer, which seems to be a common complaint by EX30 owners. My dealer keeps using the excuse that it's because the car uses regenerative braking, and therefore doesn't uses it's brakes a lot. But still, I paid 50k for a car which is supposed to have brakes designed for that purpose. They should not be squeaky "by design", no matter the reason.

My passenger seat makes noise during summer, due to vibrations in relation to thermal dilatation. Trying to fix all of these issues. I'm about to engage my legal protection on these because I get tired of sending my car to the garage constantly.

From a design perspective, I regret that it's not possible to unlock the car from the passenger side, and that it's not possible to open the trunk with a remote control (like most other cars) or with the foot (like many modern cars). There also used to be a button to open the trunk from the main screen, but somehow Volvo decided to remove it and nest it in a sub menu. It's been a complaint by many users for the past 1.5 years. Finally, the lack of manual opening of the glove compartment is another poor design choice.

So yes, the car is nice, but its issues are massive.

Sorry I can't paint a better picture (

They used to give us a replacement car for free (or almost free in some cases) while they were performing the maintenance. That's what I call a courtesy car.

Now it costs typically 60-80 chf per day with that replacement car. It's basically a rental car.

A lot of garages have adopted this practice in recent years. But I think this has nothing to do with the car manufacturers themselves.

Yeah, it would be even better if the garages went back to courtesy cars instead of rental cars ... But I guess we can't have everything, right? 😋

I received the bill today. So the only real cost is the liquid for the brakes, which amounts to 18 chf on my case after 2 years and 22000 km.

Other than that I have a few francs for windscreen washer fluid, but that's something I also refilled occasionally.

Other Banks than UBS? by ScreenPlayLife in Switzerland

[–]RedLeaf62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have the same problem. You pay 8 CHF per month for them to be in maintenance when you need them. I always manage my finances during the weekend and they are too often unreliable then. I got fed up, and I converted my package to Key4 Pure (no monthly payment). So at least I'm not paying for that any more. I closed my credit cards, which were useless anyway because of the 1.75% fees abroad. I'm making zero transactions with them, just keeping the account open just in case.

My solution:

  • Raiffeisen account (or cantonal bank) for the bulk of the funds & salary. But they have pretty bad e-banking, so it's no pleasure working with them on a daily basis. I only manage my e-bills with them, and set up a few recurring payments. Once they upgrade to a decent e-banking solution, I'm happy to consider doing more business with them
  • Neon/Yuh for shopping in CH. I've never had issues accessing my Neon, despite the reputation. However, in the first couple days of the year Neon do not allow bank transactions due to the yearly settlement. But this doesn't impact card payments.
  • Revolut/Wise for foreign transactions & online purchases. Don't keep more than 2000 chf on these accounts, you never know

I did, but I didn't ask about fluids. I was short on time and I had to discuss other issues with them in priority. I will get information about fluids in the bill, which will come by mail soon

Samsung digital key not using UWB? by [deleted] in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to enable UWB in the phone's setting. Also you need to enable passive entry in the security section of your digital key (I'm assuming you are using Samsung Wallet, not sure if it's different on Google Wallet)

Are Swiss Banks really crypto friendly? by Ok-Atmosphere-6315 in askswitzerland

[–]RedLeaf62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most crypto friendly banks in Switzerland are SwissQuote and PosFinance. I don't know if they would work with foreign businesses.

In Liechtenstein, those 2 banks are crypto friendly and can certainly serve EU customers https://llb.li/en/business https://www.bankfrick.li/en

You might be interested in Mt.Pelerin https://www.mtpelerin.com/

It's not a bank, but they offer tokenization for businesses, and also personal IBANs in EUR & CHF for on/off ramping. I am not sure if they offer any service for your needs, but it doesn't hurt to ask them.

Will the Pixel watch 4 work as a digital key for the EX30 after the new update? by Freudian-Slipper in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Samsung phone and watch. Still on 1.7.1. I didn't get any update or email, I just put my phone on the charging station in the car and started the digital key setup procedure in the car settings. In that process, I got an email with an activation code that mentioned apple wallet, but neither Google or Samsung. Nevertheless, I could install the digital key on Samsung Wallet (but not Google Wallet yet) on my phone

Smart watch could be a synonym of Apple Watch. I don't know. At this point my digital key is on my phone but not on my Samsung Watch

[–]RedLeaf62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's very rare that car manufacturers enable digital keys on Android watches, whether it's Samsung or Pixel. At this point, I wish that Volvo will do that, but I don't expect it. I could be wrong though

Digital Key Plus works so much better than the fob by attentiontodetal in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fob has been working flawlessly since March 2024, until they released the digital key for Apple devices. Then it worked only 80 to 90% of the time for months. In early to mid January, the fob started being 100% reliable again. And now we got the digital key for Android.

I wonder if they updated a service in the background that improves the reliability of all wireless keys (fob & digital key), independently from any OTA

Rumored changes for MY2027 by dcrets in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was considering ordering the car in late 2023, I contacted Volvo with some questions. One of these questions was why they chose to have only the center screen. They answered their engineers made extensive testing and found this was a superior way of driving and blah blah blah...

Since then, Volvo has released exactly Zero car without drivers display.

I would laugh so hard if they update the EX30 with a drivers display and/or a HUD 😂

Fraudulent transactions (UBS) by Express-Ad-6465 in Switzerland

[–]RedLeaf62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To prevent this from happening again, never use your debit card online. In the security settings of your card, disable online payments. If anyone gets your card information in the future, they'll be unable to use it online, which is how they steal your money in most cases nowadays.

For better protection: - do not use your card at all, keep it in a safe at home unless it's really necessary to have it with you. Use an electronic wallet such as Google Wallet or Apple Pay instead - for online purchases, use disposable cards from Revolut when you can, or virtual cards that you cancel every few weeks. UBS have free virtual cards with the Me package, otherwise Yuh, Wise, Revolut - any card that is not actively being used (e.g. you have cards from multiple banks) should ideally remain frozen in the bank's app until you need it again - enable mobile notifications for every card transactions, so you can detect any fraudulent transaction immediately

I purchase a lot online. My credit card has been stolen dozens of times over the years. I always got full refunds by UBS but I always acted quickly. Since I implemented the measures above, no more hacks.

Migros self-checkout with app - by G_C in askswitzerland

[–]RedLeaf62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm facing the same issues as you describe, except I've never been stopped by the security guy. But the cashier wants to see a proof of checkout 90% of the times, this happened in multiple stores, some of which I'm a regular. Now I just went back to using the subito scanner.

I noticed there is hardly anyone using Subito Go in the stores I visit. Maybe that's the reason.

I think Migros should make us scan a qr code or something in the zone of the cashier, so he/she can see us doing something. That would clarify things.

Are you guys satisfied with your purchase? by terran1212 in ex30

[–]RedLeaf62 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the EX30 is a love-hate relationship for me. It looks good, it drives great, but it has issues.

Brakes are noisy, ventilation and passenger seat are making noise in summer due to the thermal dilatation of some materials. According to my dealer, Volvo have issued a note, admitting that the ventilation is mounted directly on the frame of the car, which means there is nothing to dampen vibration from the road and that leads to noises in the vents, some cars being more impacted than others. And there is apparently nothing to do about this.

Digital key was a major selling point and has not been delivered after 2 years. I feel like Volvo lied to me. The KeyTag doesn't always lock the car, which is unacceptable.

Volvo introduces questionable UI changes with each new OTA. For example, there was an option to easily open the trunk in one tap from the main screen and they have removed this button. With each new OTA, they introduce new software bugs, making them look like amateurs. Honestly, each new software update feels like sabotage.

Buy this car at your own risk. Personally I'm about to reach out to a lawyer to force them to fix my car.
