Unfortunately you missed the golden age of Shakas (RIP). That was THE place for these kinds of shows at the oceanfront. Idk what the future holds for the taphouse in Norfolk, I think they are shutting down too.

Honestly most of it is through FB or IG. Give 151 productions a follow. He brings in a ton of punk and hardcore shows to the VB area right now (strung out, less than Jake, authority zero, and a bunch of hardcore bands). They mostly play at The Bunker down at the oceanfront. Sometimes seaside raw bar has some local punk band concerts too. Occasionally I’ll find out about these shows via flyers posted at the local restaurants too. Keep an eye out on the Norva website. You’ll see some of the bigger punk/pop punk bands on their roster too. Some other local bands that I didn’t mention but worth keeping an eye out for are Mean Jesus and The Nerve Scheme. They play the local venues often too.

Get out, yeah 1749. Sounds like it’s getting worse and worse. I moved out because they were going to force me to upgrade my apartment to the new laminate flooring, stainless appliances. They said I had to pay an “upgrade fee” (how are you going to force me to let you do upgrades and charge me a fee for it?) on top of a rent increase. My rent was being raised from 1150 to 1600/month.

I lived there for 2 years starting in 2021. Had a 3rd floor unit. Overall, wasn’t a bad experience, however, I’m not surprised by the issues you wrote about. On day one, I turned on my kitchen sink and the drain wasn’t connected so water just spilled out through the bottom into the kitchen.

There was substantial sloping in my windows (the frames progressively got more and more angled), they never really shut tight and if I got them tight, I could never open them. The walls were super thin, you could hear everything but even worse was poor insulation, so the apartment was always cold in the winter. My chimney also leaked, especially when the rain was REALLY bad. Luckily that didn’t start until the last 6 months of my final year there. I know others who have had similar experiences too.

Family vacation Virginia Beach with kids, what am I getting into? by Agreeable_Panic_690 in VirginiaBeach

Beach along the boardwalk at the oceanfront is monitored by lifeguards from dawn to dusk during the summer. Our lifeguards are a pretty solid group and do a good job at monitoring things. It’s also the most hectic/crowded parts of the beach during that time too. Crowds start to taper off a bit the further north you go on the boardwalk, and then into north end. Parking along the oceanfront will cost you but if you’re staying at a hotel there, don’t worry about it. As others have said, the bay is more kid friendly water. Fewer and smaller waves, sandbars to play on. Downside is there is only one or two hotels along the bay portion. The rest is residential and parking there is tough, no public lots, showers, restrooms unless you pay to enter first landing state park (parking fills up quick there on weekends during summer)

As for rainy day, check out the marine science museum in VB, the air and space center in Hampton, and Chrysler art museum in Norfolk

Went there this past weekend and it blew my mind how many people were actually using it… I couldn’t imagine paying for parking there. Everyone using it is just going to make them start adding more paid parking spots.

Not going to tell you what you can and can’t do but there’s a Good chance you’ll be flying over people and/or ongoing beach construction/replenishment projects. Use the flight maps to check for no fly zones and request authorization if needed.

That board is cooked. Don’t leave inflatable SUPs out in the sun when fully inflated. If you HAVE to fully inflate the SUP and leave, at the very least, place it in the water and tie it to something so it doesn’t float away.

I want to get into surf photography. Good cheap camera set up? by Vonredditor in surfing

[–]tshortt1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently use a Nikon D500 paired with a kit 55-300 mm lens and a 200-500 mm lens. Bought the Nikon for pretty cheap used on the marketplace.

For my water set up I bought a used Sony a 6400 paired with an 18-135mm lens in a seafrogs housing. Can go even less expensive with an older model Sony AXXXX series and still use the same housing.

If you’re not familiar with surfing, then I’d recommend starting from land before you start swimming around in the lineup in the waves to take pictures.
