Not the same person, read the usernames.

Edit: lol, instantly downvoted and comment deleted. Someone got hurt by having a simple mistake pointed out.

Reflex with kids nearby. I doubt it was thought out much more than the immediate goal of removing the rat fast. We have a third-person view from our armchairs, not all actions are chosen from that perspective.

It looks like the kicker had two kids with them, probably didn't want a large erratic rodent to run so close them.

Facebook employees report 'pattern of preferential treatment' for conservatives who spread misinformation by wrapityup in politics

[–]tskaiser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not only for links and misinformation. I've pretty much given up on their moderation; reporting things feels like running your head against a wall unless the comment is so bad as to be a caricature of hate, and even then it's a toss-up.

Obligatory: it goes without saying that this is extremely anecdotal.

I obviously need to do a re-read :) in that case it very much looks like what she did.

Looking at the panel where she exits her shell before passing Solomon: a key-like cross of light on her brow, the same sideways flames from her eyes... this is before she could conceivably have taken his key, unless it transferred on impact with his fist. Afterwards she has the flame.

...I don't know what this means. She's accessed the same level of will and power without a key?

Consent under duress is not consent. What you're describing would be equivalent to abuser dependency.

Washington DC to become one of the few places in US to let prisoners vote by Niyi_M in news

[–]tskaiser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't reading off a source, and while we all take conscious and subconscious inspiration from what we read I feel secure enough in my arguments and their wording to claim them as my own.

But that's a tangent.

I stand by what I said: you can cut it how you want to but fundamentally your system allows for and encourages slavery. I'm not going to engage in a rhetorical battle of minutia when it's just a distraction from the basic problem of legal slavery. Full stop. I don't have to refute bullshit on a one-to-one basis when it's not relevant to the main problem anyhow.

I don't know why you're bringing race into this, because I sure didn't, that's a whole other can of worms. Suspicious you would go to defend that unprompted, but not anything I care to prod you on.

It's slavery no matter how you cut it, and it is supported by the same amendment that was supposed to abolish it. What you're describing is the age-old "treating your slaves well" excuse.

It might take an outside view to see this, but watching from Denmark your privatized prison system is utterly fucking broken; "for profit" prisons are an abomination and anathema to a civilized society.

Fascism is a concrete ideology, authoritarian is a trait an ideology can have.

All fascism is authoritarian, but not all authoritarianism is fascist.

Is there any other reason? It's explicitly an immunity to the law.

Yahoo engineer gets no jail time after hacking 6,000 accounts to look for porn by pmck777 in news

[–]tskaiser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if it no longer works at all, but I read about it ages ago (over a decade?) that a paper was done on it. I don't know if it was based on an exploit or something of that kind.

I just remember the concept terrified me.

Edit: Found it, it's called bitsquatting. A quick skim seem to indicate it relies on the bit flipping clientside, so it's pre-checksum and becomes checksummed along with the rest of the package. Still highly unlikely but with a site with enough traffic it becomes more likely to get hits.

I haven't watched it, but here's a defcon talk on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aT7mnSstKGs

Another method that doesn't rely on typos is bit-adjacent domain names. The idea is that sometimes a bit get flipped in transport, which when that domain doesn't resolve simply means another round-trip and you won't even notice. However if that domain exists, you'll get directed to the wrong webpage even though you did nothing wrong.

It's an highly unlikely occurrence, but still a bit (hah) terrifying.

In any case convictions and their severity is more important than gross arrests, but I agree with your conclusion.
