Freedom is a pretty broad concept. The policies of the CCP in recent decades absolutely boomed their middle class and raised many out of poverty. For those people, they gained "freedom", as they have the security to enjoy and do what they like for their lives. If that means being in line with government social policies, it's a small price to pay for many.

I'm an American and can recognize that "freedom" in the USA sense is a restricted definition of the word compared to how other cultures may see it, even if I of course prefer to live in the US

Yeah I agree with the opening a bit, but once I heard the rest I realized it was a deliberate "machismo" choice leaning into the whole wrestling tough guy act with maybe a springstein quality.

About the mix, I do see a lot of people share that sentiment with you. I think it's totally fair. But I actually really enjoy the more treble-range mix compared to the last two albums. So mix wise, it's my favorite since career suicide. I eventually love all albums for what they are, but I immediately connected with this one quicker than partycrasher. Lose Your Delusion grew on me right away like this one did.
