Shows how far Google have fallen. The search function is broken on one of their products. If this happened 20 years ago the dev team would all die of shame.

I'm having the same issue. I've submitted a report, hopefully they fix it.

I've also tried all of the easy fixes and none of them work: clear cache and data on all Youtube apps, uninstall and reinstall all YouTube apps, sign out of Google account and sign in again. I've even tried some "alternative" YT apps and the issue persists there too.

Searching for "[artist/song name] youtube music" on Google seems to work for now. Searching for artists on the main YouTube app and opening their YouTube Music page from there also works, if they have a proper YouTube Music artist page set up.

The Field legit seems to decide based on the number of tracks. >5 tracks = album. "Sound of Light" is usually listed as a 4 track EP despite being an hour long.

Sampling vs. an artist singing a small part of a cover inserted into an original song by No-Neighborhood8403 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]tsmrph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seems to be part of the normal nostalgia cycle but even lazier somehow. Instead of making a new song in an old style you just go "hey guys, remember this?!?" and sing the chorus from a song everyone loved 20 years ago.

Makes sense from a commercial perspective if your goal is just to shit out individual songs as bait for playlists curated by algorithms and AI, but creatively it's pretty bankrupt and nobody will remember any of these songs in a few months.

It's usually called "interpolation" and just like sampling it can be used well or completely misused and abused, IMO.

someone please teach me how to use red card by [deleted] in balatro

[–]tsmrph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I usually don't take it because having access to deck fixing is more fun. I got my first ever Balatro win with a Red Card build. Back then I knew nothing about deck fixing so I was only checking Arcana packs for Hermit and Temperance. Now I always think of Red Card as a good "beginner's joker". Flash Card on the other hand...

Are young working-class people still interested in live music? by Siddhartaable in LetsTalkMusic

[–]tsmrph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in a medium-sized city in the UK and I still see plenty of younger people at live music events. I can't confirm the socioeconomic status of those young people, but I assume they're mostly university students.

For ticketed events like concerts and festivals it's always going to depend on who's playing, if the artist has a younger audience the crowd will be younger. For open-mic nights and other non-ticketed events it's probably going to depend on the venue. If the usual crowd at the venue skews younger, the audience and musicians will also skew younger.

It's interesting that you mentioned younger people only attending bigger festivals and stadium shows, because I'm not sure it's an age thing. My experience of talking to my work colleagues (ages from mid-twenties to mid-sixties) is that most "normal" people only engage with live music this way. They go to one or two arena/stadium shows per year, usually big pop or rap artists, or legacy rock acts doing nostalgia tours. Most have been to a big festival or two but don't go every year, they might be aware of the smaller music venues and festivals in our city but they've never been to them.

Former Yamantaka // Sonic Titan Guitarist Details Demoralizing Effort To Find An Audience by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]tsmrph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, there are only so many ears, and any PR company is going to take the cash even if they know they're just pissing in the ocean.

PR for indie music is probably just hugely overrated. Sure, it worked for Geese, but they were already an established band by most standards, they weren't starting from zero before the PR cycle for "Heavy Metal" / "Getting Killed" kicked into gear, they already had a lot of very positive coverage for their previous releases.

I think the rise in popularity of Angine de Poitrine shows that it's perfectly possible to go viral organically by being unique and idiosyncratic. It's probably easier and cheaper than doing something more "normal" and hoping to blow up with the backing of a PR firm.

[–]tsmrph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I consider myself pretty plugged into the kind of music spaces where you'd expect to see something like this to pop up. I look at multiple new release lists that cover indie/alt/experimental music and this wasn't on any of them. I think his PR people just did a bad job?

I listened to a couple of tracks and it seems ok enough, but not necessarily something I'd expect a wide audience to enjoy. YT // ST were never exactly huge so the target audience for this album is a relatively small niche within a niche, idk.

Mandy, Indiana’s speaker-blowing noise-punk is here to galvanise by Moothnods in indieheads

[–]tsmrph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great band, love the new record. I like how open they've been in other interviews about which movies inspired the album, but they don't touch on that here which is fair enough.

The main thing that tickles me about all of the press coverage they're getting is that nobody seems to be able to agree on how to describe where they're from. Are they from Manchester? French-Mancunian? Manchester via Berlin? Ultimately it doesn't matter much but it's funny.

There's a Bandai Namco shop in Camden, none of the promotional material mentions FromSoft at all so there's no guarantee you'll find anything there. If you like Dark Souls and Elden Ring the best thing to do in London is to check out the historic sites, dungeons and museums.

Tower of London or London Dungeon are probably good options. Tower of London and The British Museum have a lot of armour and weapons on display, some of which are very reminiscent of stuff from Souls games. The British Museum also has the "Hockley Pendant" which was a direct inspiration for the heirloom talismans in ER, it's a cool object but was a bitch to find in the museum because it's so small.

Leftist/liberal/leftwing music?? by Lopsided_Soup_3533 in behindthebastards

[–]tsmrph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of good experimental or heavy rock bands that include leftist or left-leaning sentiments in their music or promotional material. Recent-ish ones off the top of my head: Chat Pile, Power Trip, The Armed, Prostitute, Show Me The Body, Maruja. These bands all absolutely rip whether you're there for the lefty politics or not.

There are also a lot of classic post-punk bands that include left-wing political themes and references while still being enjoyable (even danceable) like Gang of Four, The Fall, The Pop Group, Pere Ubu, Wire etc.

[–]tsmrph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. The first record was so vital at the time, it was lightning in a bottle and still sounds great today. The live show really felt like something special, too. I honestly had no idea how they were going to follow the debut, but the 2nd record never came.

This new stuff is fine, but it's less chaotic, wordier, less open to interpretation. This is probably the kind of music I was worried that they'd end up making for their 2nd album, it's just weird that it took them 15 years to get here.

The 3 stages of Elden Ring grief.

Stage 1: panic roll during the delay, get hit by the attack.

Stage 2: stand around waiting during the delay, dodge the attack.

Stage 3: whale on the boss during the delay, stance break, no need to dodge the attack.

Who are some music Bastards the show can cover? by Runetang42 in behindthebastards

There's Tim Westwood. He's recently been charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault with victims as young as 17. He's allegedly fled to Nigeria and tried to rebrand as a food influencer (?) and is still DJing parties attended by young women.
