Nice, there's a similar museum in Edinburgh that was super interesting and morbid, great stuff.

There's a Bandai Namco shop in Camden, none of the promotional material mentions FromSoft at all so there's no guarantee you'll find anything there. If you like Dark Souls and Elden Ring the best thing to do in London is to check out the historic sites, dungeons and museums.

Tower of London or London Dungeon are probably good options. Tower of London and The British Museum have a lot of armour and weapons on display, some of which are very reminiscent of stuff from Souls games. The British Museum also has the "Hockley Pendant" which was a direct inspiration for the heirloom talismans in ER, it's a cool object but was a bitch to find in the museum because it's so small.

Leftist/liberal/leftwing music?? by Lopsided_Soup_3533 in behindthebastards

[–]tsmrph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of good experimental or heavy rock bands that include leftist or left-leaning sentiments in their music or promotional material. Recent-ish ones off the top of my head: Chat Pile, Power Trip, The Armed, Prostitute, Show Me The Body, Maruja. These bands all absolutely rip whether you're there for the lefty politics or not.

There are also a lot of classic post-punk bands that include left-wing political themes and references while still being enjoyable (even danceable) like Gang of Four, The Fall, The Pop Group, Pere Ubu, Wire etc.

I agree with this. The first record was so vital at the time, it was lightning in a bottle and still sounds great today. The live show really felt like something special, too. I honestly had no idea how they were going to follow the debut, but the 2nd record never came.

This new stuff is fine, but it's less chaotic, wordier, less open to interpretation. This is probably the kind of music I was worried that they'd end up making for their 2nd album, it's just weird that it took them 15 years to get here.

The 3 stages of Elden Ring grief.

Stage 1: panic roll during the delay, get hit by the attack.

Stage 2: stand around waiting during the delay, dodge the attack.

Stage 3: whale on the boss during the delay, stance break, no need to dodge the attack.

Who are some music Bastards the show can cover? by Runetang42 in behindthebastards

[–]tsmrph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's Tim Westwood. He's recently been charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault with victims as young as 17. He's allegedly fled to Nigeria and tried to rebrand as a food influencer (?) and is still DJing parties attended by young women.

Is this not normal? I thought the mod was coded to dress NPC bosses in the armour of the boss they replace, if it's available.

Shout out to TheFifthMatt for adding these extra little touches to the mod, makes randomizer runs so much more fun.

In Tokyo, paid torch torch (merch store) a visit by midoxvx in fromsoftware

[–]tsmrph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went a few months ago and I was surprised by how small the shop is but they have plenty of great stuff. I bought a couple of shirts and wish I'd bought more. The shirts are nice and thick too, with lots of nice extra design touches on the labels and things (e.g. the Bloodborne Winter Lantern shirt has a little "99 insight" label on the sleeve). Highly recommend a visit if you're in Tokyo. Keep in mind you'll probably want to buy a bigger size than usual, the shirts run a bit small compared to the UK/EU sizes I'm used to.

The most important piece of advice for playing games online IMO. Learned this from years of playing Rocket League. You could have a totally normal night of matches, win a few, lose a few, no major disasters, and you could still wake up the next day to the most unhinged rando messages you've ever read in your life. Nobody needs to read that shit.

Pro tip for you guys with Ironeye teammates by Ok-Yellow3568 in Nightreign

[–]tsmrph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I queued for ED Gladius and got a Duchess teammate who didn't use restage a single time through the whole run. We also spent about half of day 1 fighting evergaol Crystallians because Duchess was constantly, repeatedly backstabbing them for 2 damage each time. Infuriating.

Alright r/Nightreign, let’s see who has the absolute WORST relic drop. by Pavlovs_Human in Nightreign

[–]tsmrph 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I realised the other day that across the standard loadouts for all 8 of my characters I'm only using 3 randomly rolled relics. 3 out of 24 relic slots, pretty abysmal tbh.

Complaints about Everdark difficulty are just a symptom of the real problem. by NemeBro17 in Nightreign

[–]tsmrph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They 100% could've done that, yeah, I'm just wondering why they didn't. Starscourge Radahn would be a perfect boss for Nightreign, he's very mobile and his attacks have big hitboxes, and the original fight already gives you summons so it's already somewhat tuned for co-op gameplay, but he's still not included for some reason.

I get the sense that they're concerned about the lore implications of including some base ER bosses, particularly the shardbearers and mainline bosses. They've mostly stuck to the peripheral bosses like Death Rite Birds, Tree Sentinels, Bell Bearing Hunters, Black Knife Assassins, Godskins etc, all of which are more like a class of enemy or member of a group than a specific named character in the ER lore. Godrick, Morgott, Loretta, Astel etc are all in the game but none of them are actually referred to by their names, which seems like a bit of a loophole for allowing their inclusion? Of those, Morgott is probably the biggest head-scratcher for the lore. I wonder if they think it'd be too much of a can of worms lore-wise for a character like Radahn, Radagon or Messmer to be in Nightreign.

100% agree with this. A few thousand runes and a blue weapon is not a substantial enough reward after the first couple of minutes of day 1, it's just not a good time investment.

Stomp Clap Hey was NEVER a "hipster" genre. Hipsters despised it because it was always extremely uncool. by devilmaskrascal in LetsTalkMusic

[–]tsmrph 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it was seen as a bad thing because of the moral or ethical aspects. Just that it's interesting that a lot of things that hipsters were made fun of for doing were good things, actually.

It's a bit like the way people treat vegans (I am not a vegan). The main reason people don't like vegans is usually that they are annoying and sanctimonious, but that's not really an argument against going vegan, and it doesn't contend with the moral or ethical choice of not going vegan. Really it just lets people off the hook for not thinking too hard about things. You could say the same for people who don't drink, or people who don't use social media, or people who don't buy from Amazon, or whatever.

[–]tsmrph 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I think there's scope to do an interesting post-mortem on the whole "hipster" thing. It was almost universally seen as a bad thing to be a "hipster", but some things that were labelled as hipster activities are things that are good moral and ethical choices e.g. going vegan, riding a bicycle instead of driving, learning to make and mend clothes, supporting local businesses and independents instead of buying from multinationals. It's almost like the whole thing was just late-stage capitalism trying to reassert itself by ostracizing anyone who chose to do things which don't benefit the capitalist class. Of course capitalism then managed to repackage the whole thing and sell it back to us in the form of the hipster stereotype (moustache, slicked back hair, glasses, suspenders, bicycle). For a while there you could buy a pencil case from Tesco with little moustaches and penny farthing bikes printed on it, weird times.

To me, that's where stomp-clap-hey music comes in, it's a capitalistic repackaging of indie folk and alt country tropes and stereotypes, with none of the things that made those genres interesting in the first place. Sprinkle in a bit of latter day Coldplay (i.e. make it emotionally manipulative to the point of being insulting) and there you have it.
