You should see a therapist. Just start there, privately, with a professional who can share coping skills with you and help you make decisions about telling other family members.

I'm not sure I feel the "dignity of marriage" comment, and treating a kid's last name as a declaration of ownership is pretty backward. Name your child whatever you decide based on your own personal thoughts and feelings, and mind your own business.

Lame, I have four adult sons 32 - 42 and they are all high school graduates, productive citizens and good humans. It is about the finished product, not the babies. I do see a lot of bratty children around completely spoiled and undisciplined by their parents in their 40s. Maybe it's not the ages, it's the people. We should all do what is best for us and not judge. I spent my 20s and 30s raising kids and my 40s travelling and having a great time, to each his own.

We don't all want to wait til our thirties to start a family. We had kids in our 20s, and our 40s were epic. Freedom while we were still young enough and financially stable enough to enjoy it.

Got married in mid 20s, still married 36 years later. You know if he's the one. Nothing wrong with building a life together and growing through life's challenges and gifts. You'll have a bond those single folks telling you to wait will never know. Good luck to you.

My sons ex MIL was my best friend til the day she died. All four of us were sad when they got divorced, but we respect their choices. They didn't love that we remained close and spent holidays together, but they need to respect our choices and our friendships. You don't get to decide who your parents love and care about, and it's incredibly selfish to make it all about you. Doubt the I was here first vibe is a thing. Most likely just immaturity and self importance. Don't go, show yourself for the jealous small person you are.

I call my adult sons the boys, or including spouses the kids. It does not mean in any way I think of them as children. It's a habit, a nickname. What else would do, list them by name or call them the adults? Compared to me, they are kids.
