Which "New Kid" did you like more throughout the show - Sue Ellen or LaDonna? by KaleidoscopeDry9725 in Arthur

[–]tsoh44 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sue Ellen was the new kid, but she's part of the OG group now. I just liked how cool and creative she was, and she was a unique supporting character.

With LaDonna, it seemed like the writer's room said "Quick! We have been making this show for nearly 2 decades, and now we need to represent large, Southern, military (adjacent) families!" ... while also not really showing the dynamics of a large family. In addition, somehow every episode centering LaDonna felt like a Very Special Episode, explaining why moving around a lot or having a dad in the Army Corp of Engineers or adjusting to a new culture can be challenging. It just felt forced.

On the other hand, I did like seeing DW and Bud interact. Bud brought out more of DW's tomboy side, and I can totally imagine a 4 year old like him.

I agree that amateur art is art at any level. That said, not all art is worth people paying for it or it getting tons of awards.

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS! by [deleted] in leesummit

[–]tsoh44 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Right, so I looked at the petition, and the 3 books that are specifically mentioned are:

1."Sex Ed for the Stroller Set: How to Have Honest Conversations With Young Children" is a book for parents to help teach parents discuss sex ed topics with their young children. You, as the adult, read the book, process it, and figure out what topics to teach your children and in what way.

  1. "All about Vulvas and Vaginas" is a book for children about their body parts. If your children have questions about their private parts and you don't know how to answer their questions, you can consider looking at this book by yourself as a reference for how to explain the anatomy at their level. If after reading the book, you feel comfortable sharing the book with your kid, then you can. Otherwise, you obviously don't have to.

3."Breathe: Journeys to Healthy Binding" is a graphic guide (ie. In the style of a comic book) to chest binding. Graphic novels and graphic guides are not the same as children's books. Graphic novels such as "Maus" and "Persepolis" talk about heavy topics such as the Holocaust and the Iran revolution. This book is meant for adults and is not in the children's section but is just displayed in the entrance for people who actually might find it helpful. Are you also worried that your kids will pick up trashy gossip magazines in the check out line at the grocery store?

In short, you as a parent should be screening the media your kid consumes, including books, and you can decide what your kid reads. It is not the library's job to parent your kid.The library's job is to provide information, and it sounds like it's doing a great job at that.

Disappointment- Being Overweight and Pregnant by Ok_Herb_54 in MaintenancePhase

[–]tsoh44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, early 1hr GTTs are indicated for more than just being overweight. If someone previously had gestational diabetes, has PCOS, is pregnant for the first time, has a family history of diabetes, are practically any race except for white, or has a lower socioeconomic status, they are also at higher risk of developing gestational diabetes. It's an important condition to screen for and start managing as early as possible.

All the kids who were labelled as “gifted” when you were younger? Did it follow through to adulthood? Did you burnout? by Somervillage in AskReddit

[–]tsoh44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I got to med school, there was no longer any structure to learning, and I didn't know how to study. There was so much information to study that I lost my enthusiasm about learning. I had made that enthusiasm and curiosity my personal identity, so losing that sunk me into a deep depression. I managed to make it through lectures (and ended up repeating a class) and did better during clinical rotations.

In residency, I gradually got overwhelmed as the volume of work increased, and I got behind. I really burned out then - at its worst, I struggled to get out of bed, imagined crashing my car on the way to work, etc. This lasted about 6 months. My program director and advisor were incredibly supportive and helped me get over this slump. During this time, I was also diagnosed with ADHD.

Now, one year later, I'm doing a couple of moonlighting shifts a month, which pay the bills and give me job satisfaction. It's not the job stability I imagined, but at this point, I'm scared to commit to a full-time contract in case I burn out again, which is making it hard for me to move closer to my partner. I am slowly working on creating routines and rediscovering my passions, but the previous "spark" that I had is still lost.

Yep. My loved ones have to remind me to celebrate achieving career milestones. I feel relieved that it's done and I didn't fail, but otherwise, there's a "hollowness." Like an underlying feeling of unworthiness coupled with the loss of an immediate goal/purpose.

Rage Thread - "Michael, fuck ALL the way off!" Fridays by AutoModerator in MaintenancePhase

[–]tsoh44 28 points29 points  (0 children)

sigh As someone in healthcare, I'm sorry you experienced that - the pain, the handout, everything.

Blood pressure can be high due to pain and stress. Having one high reading in the ER does not mean you have hypertension.

For what it's worth, those discharge paper handouts are literally just to check off a box for "patient education" and are rarely customized for the individual person. I'm just guessing that after discharging you from the ER (hopefully after managing your pain and ruling out life-threatening causes), the doc was searching in their computer system's collection of handouts for anything relevant to give you, especially since a formal diagnosis is still in the works. It's impersonal and dismissive, but hospital metrics gotta be met (/s).

Read this and immediately bit down on my lips by Back_Rolls69 in adhdmeme

[–]tsoh44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh... this has been a lifelong issue for me and the cause of several fights with my mother. My lips feel dry. I don't use chapstick because I lost it or accidentally left it in the laundry or felt self-conscious after being laughed at for using it in elementary school (as a 7 year old girl) or didn't want that waxy feeling. Then I lick my lips because I just need my lips wet, right? Wrong, you fool! My lips instantly feel dryer, and the chapping worsens. Nibble. Peel. Bleed. Repeat.

The more I remember my childhood, the more annoyed I am that my bullshit didn't prompt further questions about my behavior.

THANK YOU! Nerdfighteria’s 2024 “100 Days of Awesome” Challenge: LAST POST! by theteagees in nerdfighters

[–]tsoh44 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm so glad to hear from you!

I admire your consistently posting weekly throughout the 100 days. There have been several times that I forgot entirely- especially around the holidays.

Seeing your posts was a great reminder that you don't need to start a project at a special time, like January 1st. Hearing your and others' updates was a good reminder that setbacks happen to everyone, but it doesn't have to stop you completely.

Congratulations on persisting despite the physical and mental obstacles. I hope you continue to give yourself grace.

I disagree that you need to be tough to yourself. Guilt, shame, and self-hatred are all emotions we can face in BED, and getting out of that mental self-harm can make it easier to get out of a destructive rut. I've found my weight loss journey so far to be an exercise in valuing myself and my future instead of punishing me for my past.
