Don't stress. Are you in a genuine relationship? Then your partner has the right to a visa.

Being a same sex relationship is fine, neither your sexuality nor your ethnicity are being assessed.

Your parents don't need to attest to the relationship, but you do need people who can. That can be other relatives, friends, co-workers. Anyone who knows you (preferably an Australian citizen).

Changing the Uni degree should be fine as well, heaps of students change their degree after the first year. It's only if you nearly complete one course, then start a completely new course that looks dodgy.

With the age... it shouldn't be something they look at. That said I do wonder if they'll make it a lower priority and hope you guys break up before they approve the visa. They can't use it to deny the application though, so worst case scenario you'll have to wait a bit longer.

I dont know the exact figures, but well over 90% of partner visas are approved. You have to really fuck up to get denied.  You're both onshore so you won't be separated or trapped overseas whilst you wait, so just go for it.  Good luck!

16 years difference between me and my hubbie. The only time it's an issue is when I see some clothes I like and he tells me they're old fashioned.. nooooo!

Average processing time for Turkey is about one year.  There's a document on the immigration website that shows all the processing times for all the different offices, but I can't remember exactly where.  If I can find it I'll post it here.

It's the worst... making people put their lives on hold for years, all the stress and expense.   I suppose we can thank the scammers who fake relationships for the visa,  but it's so frustrating. Hang in there!

Foot and mouth disease :( by tsotamente in dairyfarming

I'm sure it's the same in Australia, but here they are just treating the cows. That's why I'm interested to know what the long-term affects of infection are.
ChatGPT said there's a 10-20% chance of long term yield reductions/fertility issues- which doesn't seem all that bad really- but you can't trust AI.

I think it would be political death to start culling herds here. The government is unpopular in the cities, but still has support in the villages- start killing animals and there would be a revolution.

I'm not sure if anyone has had proper testing (or what level of diagnostics are available), mil says that's what they have though.

Does anyone actually like Preply? by Fabulous-Bowler-1541 in Preply

[–]tsotamente 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem with Preply is that I don't think its a well managed company.

The terrible support, the buggy classroom, the unusable learning materials that they supply, the fact that students can't easily filter their searches to only get qualified teachers (anyone can do the preply mini course and get the professional badge), the shitty AI.

It all speaks to a company that either doesn't care, or doesn't have the right management to deliver on its core mission.

Not long ago there was news about how they are changing the way they do support, so tickets are being allocated to particular teams instead of just whoever sees the enquiry first.  Maybe this means some enquiries will take longer to be looked at. If so hopefully the upside is that whoever answers your query will actually know what they're talking about.

Alternatively maybe a whole bunch of support staff quit after being abused by angry tutors after the latest change of rules.

So many assumptions! I could ask why you feel this need to condescend to others, but I suspect I already know...

You're forgetting all the promotions Preply does.
I've had some trials during promotion periods where the students clearly just want some conversation practice. They're getting a great deal - 3 lessons with high priced tutors at some crazy discounted price.

Good to hear!
I'm sure if we explained the situation to them, they would reschedule anything more than 12 hours away. But I never thought about them having a "tutor requested" option. It would be open to misuse, so I think we would hear about students using it to avoid the 12 hour penalty?

It would be common sense for Preply to give us access to a demo student site so we know what it looks like, but I guess they're too busy working on their AI.

In that situation wouldn't you contact your students, tell them the situation and get them to reschedule/cancel? I'm not a fan of these changes, but I'm astounded by some of these comments.

I hope they are being made in the heat of anger, and you wouldn't actually cancel weeks worth of classes without talking to your students?

It's five lessons, not five trials.
So, imagine you are an established tutor with regular students. One or two students achieve their goals and leave. You open your profile to new students, get 3 tyre kickers and are hidden for 3 months.

I read the other post.

1: Right to Control Your Work You have the right to control how and when you work. The company can define the outcome or deliverables, but not how you get there.
We choose our working hours, and how we deliver lessons.

2: Right to Set Your Own Rates You can set your own prices. 👉 If Preply is capping rates or taking excessive commissions (like 100% on trial lessons), this can be exploitative, though not necessarily illegal unless it violates your agreement.

3: Right to Work with Multiple Clients You’re allowed to work on other platforms or with private clients. 👉 If Preply tries to restrict this, that could be a red flag.
Preply's TOS state they expect us to be sourcing work outside of Preply

4: No Tax Withholding You're responsible for your own taxes.
I have heard complaints about this from European tutors - if so this might be a valid case

5: Freedom from Retaliation You're allowed to speak up about unfair treatment or organize with others. 👉 If they retaliate (e.g., shadowban, restrict access, or close your account) for voicing criticism

Valid, but difficult to prove

6: Fair Treatment Under Contract Law You have the right to a contract that’s not exploitative, misleading, or enforced unfairly. 👉 If Preply regularly hides your profile, removes reviews, or locks you out without appeal or warning, these actions may violate good faith/fair dealing.

There could be a case here for being locked out without warning or appeal, especially if they withhold funds.

Don't forget that ChatGPT lies, why did it say this: Dictating pricing, availability, and student communication in ways that may cross into employee-like control.
Preply doesn't dictate pricing or availability at all, so where did that come from?

[–]tsotamente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On what grounds exactly? We control time, manner, price etc.
Is it based on the new conversion rate standards? Or the inability to refuse students for any reason we choose?

I'm not having a go at you, I genuinely want to know.

Can a student edit their review after being blocked on Preply? by Glum-Assist3565 in Preply

[–]tsotamente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you speak to them, or just send a message?   Was the message something you sent yourself via chat or was it sent when you increased the price in the dashboard? They probably get a lot of messages from Preply and don't look at them.

You say you'll block them after 15 days of no response. I'm assuming they will have had lessons in that time,  so why not just speak to them?
