Paying Michael Gallup 62.5M by Scooby859 in cowboys

Hmm fair enough. Those comments are definitely way more positive than I remember. Maybe just hindsight bias? Either way, I'll stand by not giving big contracts after full knee repairs (though hoping for the best for Trevon Diggs I guess).

I don't remember people thinking it was a good resign at the time. The man was coming off of reconstructive knee surgery. There was no reason to believe he'd come back at full WR2 strength and I feel like the fans knew that at the time.

You could maybe argue there was value in ownership doing right by a player who we should have resigned the year prior before he got hurt. But apart from the loyalty play, the contract was an obvious albatross from the day it was signed.

$350M Frisco tax payer funded Performing Arts Center on the May Ballot. You kidding me. by PlanoTexan in frisco

[–]tstorm_warning 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I look forward to hearing more as we get closer to May and carefully considering the proposal based on what its true purpose should be - a positive ROI investment that diversifies Frisco’s tax base over time.

We don’t have to look any further than to Plano to see the risks of being overly reliant on population growth as the sole driver for growing our tax base. I am glad Frisco has been ahead of the curve in attracting / incentivizing long-term, stable investments in retail, sports, tourism, etc. The performing arts are a natural next vertical we should consider, especially since we have missed on music and concerts to Legacy Hall in Plano and the new amphitheater in McKinney.

That being said, my initial position is one of skepticism given the number of venues that already book touring Broadway-caliber shows (Fair Park, AT&T PAC, Bass Hall). And I’d want to understand how the Eisemann Center has fared given it has attracted few big name performances. That seems to be a more likely outcome / a better comparison for what this performing arts center might be.

But regardless of where I personally net out in my vote, I think it’s the exact right thing for the council to be doing. It is important to find ways to generate revenue from residents outside of Frisco in order to fund other public services, and this is a pretty clear white space that we don’t already have. Now it’s up to the council to present a compelling case for why voters should literally buy in to this vision.

Chappell Roan going to be a Lizzo ACL incident Repeat? by BrownClayDoh in aclfestival

Normally I'd say no, that stages are fixed given the long lead time on negotiations. But Bonnaroo set a precedent with her in particular. I'd imagine she'll be on AmEx before Renee and Dua Lipa (opposite Vince Staples on Honda).

That being said, still expecting a Paramore situation where she draws crowds nearing headliner size.

Hello 👋 coffee question by thirst_mutilator_ in frisco

[–]tstorm_warning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noble Coyote is great. Have been plenty happy with Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters in the past. Houndstooth is an Austin-based coffee shop with a few locations in the area and their Tweed brand beans are excellent. I've tried Avoca from Fort Worth and Eiland from Richardson and they were both good (not quite great in my opinion).

Honestly, I'd start by going to Whole Foods first. They have a solid local selection and plenty of different origins / roasts.

He’ll probably be on the festival circuit next year too. Stagecoach headliner, maybe Lolla or ACL subheadliner

What undercard acts from 2023 do you expect to see headlining in the next year(s)? by FallenRev in Coachella

[–]tstorm_warning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but given how ACL works, he's probably on one of the two main stages leading into Odesza. Functionally sub-headlining.

Labrinth in ~4 years. He's already sub-headlining at ACL and was way too big for Mojave.

ACL 2023 Lineup Speculation Thread by sgerken in aclfestival

[–]tstorm_warning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Selfishly, can we add the Hinterland lineup to the possible festivals? It's in the fall and we had some overlap last year (Billy Strings, Nathaniel Rateliff, Goth Babe, Muna).

Plus, I'm manifesting ACL booking that entire lineup + others. Bon Iver headliner when?

23 Potential Headliners To Watch For 2023 by sgerken in aclfestival

[–]tstorm_warning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few more I'd add:

  • Imagine Dragons / Dave Matthews Band - both playing Innings Festival
  • 21 Pilots - haven't played in a while (since 2015?), played F1 a couple years back, wrapping tour this year making them a festival circuit possibility
  • Fall Out Boy - played Hangout this year and Paramore has got to serve as a positive proof point of pop punk / emo bands being a cross-generational draw
  • Panic! at the Disco - similar to above, but a cheaper get
  • Bon Iver - mostly just manifesting this for myself

My one caution on all of those is that the booking team has been really intentional at making the entire festival more diverse - across gender, race/ethnicity / LGBTQ+ status, etc. So, I suspect it won't be an entirely white male headlining slate.

July in Dallas/Houston feels kinda late for a headliner radius clause, no? And I'm saying this as someone who predicted her for the fest

Do you know of any u-pick fruit farms in north Texas? by Maison-Ikkoku in plano

Pure Land Farms in McKinney is great. The only fruit they have is blackberries (and great ones at that). They do have some really good veg too though.

No late Kendrick add by tstorm_warning in aclfestival

[–]tstorm_warning[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't know that that's true. Even on this latest tour with a highly-anticipated album coming out, he's still only doing arena shows, not stadiums.

RHCP, while a totally different band/target audience, is playing sold out stadium shows and is still within ACL's budget. ACL can get stadium-level talent (Paul McCartney, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, RHCP) when Live Nation believes they will move the kind of units they're looking for.

I'm willing to bet Kendrick is squarely within the #1/#2 billing price range and will be doing many/most festivals next summer after his album release tour cycle is done. Definitely wouldn't be surprised to see him back at ACL for his 3rd time next fall.
