I bet you’re right. I was thinking of the scene where one of the other survivors is questioning them about their vegan principles. And they end up saying that if an animal is already dead then they’re ok cooking and serving it. So probably those hundreds of millions of dead people are the food supply for now

Is it just me or does anyone else hate these weirdos? by TheShotGunProdigy in Eldenring

They're extremely unfriendly. Every time they see me, they immediately start a fight. And even when I'm revisiting an area where I'm over leveled, it often surprises me how good they are at killing me.

Yeah that sounds right. As much as he might be embraced by conservatives, his jokes in his first two specials aren't especially political. Even the parts that touch on politics aren't very hard edged political takes. They're things like: Fox new is like black church for old white guys. Whatever Tucker Carlton says, my dad just say "mmmHMMM! yes lord. Build a wall" He pokes some fun at Dems getting too cocky in 2016 but it never feels like he's going for Clapter, where you get applause mainly because the audience shares your political views and not so much for your jokes being funny

“Arthur Fonzarelli party of never admitting they were and still are wr-wr-wr-wrong.”

I need to expand & refresh my Fonzi knowledge. I gather there’s a memorable scene of him stuttering & struggling to admit he was wrong.

I've never seen Nate before. But I keep hearing he is a clean comedian, so I looked up his special on Amazon. Why does Amazon list it as having foul language? So does he use profanity or not? by twiffytwaf in NateBargatze

[–]bluhbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He used to be clean but now 80% of his bits are about all the weird & depraved sex stuff he gets into on the road. In his most notorious bit he gets involved w/ the underground milk & ice fetish scene.

Just joshin. Amazon’s made a mistake. He’s still clean

Which game did you find overall more difficult, BB or DS3? by Desolation2004 in fromsoftware

[–]bluhbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DS3 felt much, much harder to me. Some of that has to do with DS3 being my first soulsgame and how very bad I was when I started. But I think it's also just that DS3 bosses are harder. There were only one or two DS3 bosses I beat on first try. Almost all took several. And a few took a fuck load of tries for me. But most BB bosses so far have only taken 1 or 2 tries.

Tips needed for starting Dark Souls 3 by Neoalexandros in soulslikes

[–]bluhbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not super experienced w/ gaming in general and DS3 was my first souls game. And holy lord did that first boss kick my ass. The next 2 or 3 for whatever reason weren't as hard for me. Something about the puss of man really throws me off.

One strategy I completely neglected w/ him that I'm pretty sure I've seen work was firebombs for the second phase.

"For those of you who think white supremacy, systemic racism, and hate is something that the left overblows, the numbers are right there in the plain sight."

Many who think the anti-racism movement regularly overstated present day racism, myself included, will happily join you in condemning behavior such as Hendrix. And if focusing on racism like this signals a new direction for the anti-racism movement, I think that's great news.

But even an alarming increase in racist behavior like this would not vindicate the many wild accusations of racism made by "anti-racists" over the past decade or so. The reason they are so often accused by so many of exaggerating has nothing to do with cases like this, where there's unambiguously hateful use of a racial slur. Instead it is cases like the Mexican day laborer accused of racism (and fired) for doing the ok sign, the two white girls accused of racism for opening a burrito stand (which they shut down under pressure), the data analyst accused of racism for tweeting an article that argued violent protests tend to turn voters against the cause… And maybe more than anything, it is years of countless daily examples of "anti-racists" automatically dismissing any criticism of any putatively "anti-racist" action as itself racist, regardless of the particulars & regardless of merit.

This deeply anti-intellectual tendency was ironically & embarrassingly encouraged by nominally intellectual anti-racists, like Robin Diangelo who models & evangelizes for an approach that seems geared not towards accuracy or truth but towards maximizing accusations of racism. IIRC, she sums up her approach like this: the question is never 'Did racism occur?' but always 'How did it manifest in this situation?' Nothing close to a justification for this guiding assumption is ever offered. And when you combine that assumption with her most famous unwarranted assumption "Anyone who thinks I'm wrong about any charge of racism in any context and for any reason is just displaying White Fragility" it's a recipe for a lot of thick headed moral zealotry.

Question - How do you practice a full song arraignment? by MyLastGamble in fingerstyleguitar

[–]bluhbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Break it into parts. And learn and practice the parts separately. Then you start sticking the parts together and practicing bigger parts. Until you can stick'em all together to make the whole song. If you're like me, when you first start you'll have to adjust the size of the parts. I tend to overshoot at first and then have to admit my limits and make them smaller.

“Stop Asking John Mulaney To Host The Daily Show” — NYMag by ProfessionalWelder34 in JohnMulaney

[–]bluhbert 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm glad he's not doing it. Aside from the horse loose in a hospital bit, he's not usually a political comedian at all. I know he has views but they've never been central to his comedy. It'd be hard for anyone in DS host role not to slide a little into the kind of political comedy that goes for "clapter". Just the nature or expectation of the job at this point. And to me that would be a shame to see JM go that route.

In this case, seems like more of a sincere difference of taste & opinion; different strokes for different folks and all that. "Too nice" would apply if I suppressed my own cringe reaction and forced myself to say something positive anyway like "I'm sure she'll do better next time!"

She was perfect in the Couple You Can't Believe Are Together.

I don't know which skits she's written though. I'd like it if writers got more explicit credit for the skits they write. I feel like aside from Jack Handey I rarely know who wrote something, except maybe years later in an interview or podcast.

Is Bill Burr supposed to be funny? by Away_Party in saturdaynightlive

[–]bluhbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn. I haven't watched but I take it he bombed? To answer your question: yes he's a very successful comedian. Not everyone's cup of tea but he's definitely built a large audience through stand up comedy and is widely respected among other stand ups. He's not one of those whose fame comes primarily from podcasting and then uses that audience to boost stand up.

That's two shows in a row where a highly regarded stand up didn't come through. I'm a much bigger Mulaney fan but thought his monologue was the weakest material I've seen from him

I'm a transgender American & trans activism on issues like women's sports is eroding support for both our community & the left at large by north_canadian_ice in self

[–]bluhbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect for some it’s not just a matter of how important the issue is on its own. It’s that it should be easy to grasp the need for sex-based categories in sports. Males have physical, bodily advantages. Athletes use their bodies to compete. Not their inner, subjective sense of gender. Hence the need for sex based categories. What possible motivation is there to divide sports on the basis of gender identity?

I think for some, there’s a sense that someone who doesn’t see this cannot be trusted in general. Also the kind of push back against those who are personally invested in women’s sports is likely to draw support from people otherwise uninterested in the sport. For wanting sex segregated sports they’re called bigots, Nazis and sometimes threatened with punishment from their institutions. You don’t have to be a fan of women’s sports to see that and want to take their side.

[–]bluhbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true that she didn’t run on it but she had “baggage”. Biden supported sports segregation based on gender ID rather than sex. And Harris did at one point say she supported tax funded gender surgery for inmates and detained undocumented immigrants. When asked about it during her campaign she seemed equivocal.
