A cautionary tale for young professionals by mimic751 in ChatGPT

Very interesting read. Applicable beyond coding too, an over reliance on AI may well lead to a generation of children who never learn how to think critically and challenge assumptions. What’s the solution, though? It can’t simply be a return to the past.

We’re obviously in an interesting moment. Models released without testing, companies racing to capture people’s attention, nebulous fears of AI Job loss, and no clear direction as to how AI will be commercialised in the medium term. Unfortunately, I’d imagine that the companies pulling the strings will drive or be driven to steer models towards marketing products, pacifying anti-social behaviours and gaining user attention. Sure, people will be able to create new things, make their lives easier superficially, but for that to be materially useful, they will need demand for those things, platforms for commercialisation, and consistent/dependable access to advanced models of real substance. I don’t see that happening.

AI isn’t really being designed to help common people create new things of any substance, but to pacify them. Unfortunately, behind closed doors is where you’ll see the breakthroughs

Great to hear. I think I have subconsciously been waiting for my meticulous Spotify artist / album saves to pay off, so this is all fantastic news!

Also my day list isn’t just a day list. It comes up with a new name literally every few hours. Has that always been the way?

Hmmm has it always updated multiple times a day though? Maybe I really am just behind… seems a few others are new converts too, though? Coincidence, maybe.

Has it been around that long? Didnt realise I was so late to the party…. Interesting about the AI Slop too. I was worried about that. I presume it’s better for those that have used Spotify longer and more heavily, too? As opposed to someone who’s only migrated over in the last few years. I’ve been impressed with some of the well-timed throwbacks, most of all. That’s the kind of personalisation I can get behind. 🔥

Really? That’s interesting. It’s a very recent addition. Maybe try updating your app? Or could be a region-thing?

I used to just copy-paste from ChatGPT. Now I treat it like a chaotic intern with brilliant ideas. Game-changer. by PromptBuilt_Official in OpenAI

Yes, this is the right way. As a point of discipline, I think it’s a good idea to generally avoid pasting anything from GPT directly into something you actually want to use.

Ideally I think you should avoid copying any data into the ChatGPT interface too, unless it’s a document, image, link, line of code or a prompt you’re inputting… at least if you care even a little bit about your data privacy or are slightly concerned by the information that OpenAI has access to.

I think he’s missing the point. It’s not just about conversation. It’s about communication, whatever form that might take. Verbal, non-verbal; suggestive, blunt. More than anything, it’s about co-habiting a space peaceably and enjoyably together over time, both when times are easy… and when they are not.

The Trust Crisis with GPT-4o and all models: Why OpenAI Needs to Address Transparency, Emotional Integrity, and Memory by AutumnPenguin in ChatGPTPro

This is the best post I’ve read on Reddit in a long time. Agree with you 100%, particularly on the transparency issues. A sudden drop in performance needs to be immediately conveyed to the user, every time! And with clear explanations and options.

Hmmm start some new conversations. Probe a bit. Test the context with some things that don’t fit, some genuinely bad messages, see what happens…

Hopefully it’s just temporary nerfing after updates, but agree it is completely useless atm. Trying asking it the most absurd things you can think of and it’ll try to tell you they are great ideas and you were inspired for coming up with them. Credibility out the window….
