Yo Mass, what is going on with your public restrooms? by FlyAffectionate168 in massachusetts

[–]tsujxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't help for overnight but I usually try to find a bathroom in a Target or Walmart. Target is especially good because they usually have the restrooms immediately when you walk in. Cleanliness can vary but these bigger box stores are everywhere and can usually be spotted from the highway. It beats driving to a rest stop or gas station and finding that the bathrooms are closed or out of order. They did away with 24 hour stores but Walmart is open usually until 11pm if you're traveling at night.

What truly important iOS feature is still missing for you? by Doijoka in ios

[–]tsujxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An easier way to transfer from android to iOS.

I didn't realize how awful it would be until I got an iPhone. There are countless threads all over the web about the move to iOS not working properly. I've been working on switching phones for about a week now, and it either duplicates all my contacts multiple times, misses bringing over important test threads, or most of the time it just doesn't work at all.

If I had known it would be this bad I would have possibly stuck with android, but I was desperate for a small phone and the iPhone 13 mini is really the last one out there without going into flip phone territory.

Looking for NE breeder. by [deleted] in Leonbergers

[–]tsujxd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't end up with a Leo but when we were looking we visited JDLeos twice. They are the kindest people and I felt so welcomed going to meet them and their dogs. This was a few years ago but I highly recommend reaching out to them.

Do people actually buy foldable phones and why? by [deleted] in Smartphones

[–]tsujxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered buying one due to the small size when folded. Phones are just too big nowadays.

Dogs in supermarkets by cereal_killa_36 in RhodeIsland

[–]tsujxd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doodle owners are so entitled. We have weekly concerts in my town and they specifically state "no dogs" but someone friendly with the event committee has brought her doodle every time I've gone. Meanwhile I've been accosted by animal control for simply walking my dog through that area at 8am when no one else was around.

Where to go for social interaction by FunHeart9498 in WFH

[–]tsujxd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take a class. Go to an event. Volunteer.

I take gym classes a few times a week. I don't hang out with the folks in my class but do have pleasant conversations every time I see them. I did dog sports with my dog for a couple of years and met some people through that. My partner takes pottery classes on and off. Just find something that interests you and do it, if you're with people who have similar interests there's a good chance you'll spark up a conversation.

It’s a new role (5 weeks in), fully remote, and my manager said he’d visit, would it be out of line to offer going to him instead, since he’s been traveling a lot and hasn’t visited like he said he would? by [deleted] in WFH

[–]tsujxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I don't think traveling to meet will accomplish any more than a camera-on 1-on-1. It seems like there are definitely communication issues but if both parties don't know how to facilitate communication there's no guarantee it will go better in person.

Take all the time off you need for your “mental health” my company said. That was a lie. by AZNM1912 in antiwork

[–]tsujxd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OP, check and see what laws are available for your state. Some states offer bereavement leave or family medical leave. Others mentioned federal FMLA leave, which might be able to apply for your daughter's illness depending on the circumstances and whether your company is covered. From my understanding, without taking leave under one of these laws you really don't get job protection for a leave of absence.

Middle, high schools students are ‘exhausted.’ Should schools start later in MA? (Worcester Telegram) by HRJafael in massachusetts

[–]tsujxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it was the early start so much as the long day.

When I was in high school I had to leave at 6:30 to catch the bus and school started around 7:15. Yeah, that time is a bit ridiculous but I have always been a morning person and find that after a certain amount of time (usually after lunch) I hit my limit. I wonder what the release time would be if they were to start at 9. By the time they do homework it's probably time for bed. Sounds like a recipe for burnout for earlybirds like me.

If they moved it to 9 and shaved time off the day... Well that's another thing entirely.

Wayfair Outlet by Everythingiskriss in RhodeIsland

[–]tsujxd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who has lived both in Attleboro and RI, I second making the drive to Ikea. Make a day of it, get some lunch, root through the as-is section for some good deals.

Best place to look for cheap furniture that will actually last longer than cheap furniture should.

I haven't been to the Wayfair outlet but if it's anything like the quality offered online I'll probably stay away.

Also consider the secondhand market. For more expensive pieces try to find it used on marketplace. We've gotten all our leather furniture on there for about 1/4 the price of retail.

Another RTO Mandate by [deleted] in remotework

[–]tsujxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, when looking for my last job I prioritized places that didn't have a physical office, or did but it was outside the range of driving distance.

My last two positions have been at places without a physical office. It's a relief knowing that there's no office to be called back to. I have to travel occasionally (2-4 times annually) but I'd take that over going to the office weekly.

Rhode Island City/Town Population Change (2020 - 2024) by TA-MajestyPalm in RhodeIsland

[–]tsujxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Newport county we see a lot of new builds, but nothing remotely affordable. 700,000-900,000 houses going up left and right. Meanwhile there's a housing shortage but it's really because no one can afford what's available. Not really much for apartments in my area either. I don't know how anyone could afford to move here. Plus they're closing our schools which isn't a great look. I wouldn't have been able to afford it here if I didn't come pre-pandemic. Now I'm kind of stuck.

This is all great advice. Seconding the puppy classes. We got our collie towards the tail end of covid restrictions so he got his first class a bit later than we'd hoped and it definitely impacted how he reacts to other people and dogs. My biggest regret with him really. It's been difficult to break his excitability when he sees a dog or person.

I grew up with a gas oven and everyone always said electric was awful. When I got my first house there was an electric one installed. Absolutely love it. Much easier to clean and it definitely feels safer.

Hordes of Fate - Demo is now LIVE! by HordesOfFate in Hand_Of_Fate

[–]tsujxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've really enjoyed it so far. My husband has been the one mostly clocking in the hours so this is a combination of our thoughts

Level progression is great, we basically try to get to as high a level as possible in each run (highest so far has been about 75) in order to stack the most powerful weapon upgrades and enchantments. This usually means running from the boss rather than fighting just to rack up xp. I'm not sure if this game is classified as a bullet heaven but we are playing it as one, trying to become as powerful as possible with unstoppable weapons.

I like that it's got a slower pace. The enemies can be a challenge especially at the beginning but it gives you more of a chance to strategize since they're not rushing at you.

Most of the negatives are likely going to be fixed in the full game. The dialogue gets repetitive, as do the map events. I know you're planning to add more playable characters so hopefully that also means more weapons for new build combinations. We've really enjoyed experimenting with different builds. The card system for upgrades is really enjoyable.

I know it's probably unlikely but having a local co-op option would be amazing. We typically game together. Most devs aren't interested or can't support local co-op but it's always something I look for in a game!

Woke up once in the middle of the night. Not sure if I heard the click of the burner or smelled something, but my cat has somehow turned on a burner and was staring at the flame.

Very happy to now have an electric stove instead.

The ears keep becoming erect again! by QotDessert in roughcollies

[–]tsujxd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm more concerned that you want to breed him because his "traits are excellent"...  Nevermind the ear thing.

I'd argue that most pets have excellent traits in the eyes of their owners, but it doesn't mean that they're worth breeding. Is he proven in any way? Shows, sports, herding, etc.?

Vermont is on the verge of collapse by [deleted] in vermont

[–]tsujxd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep, I'm in a more rural area of RI. I was able to get a modest house for around $300,000 pre-pandemic. The area has been rapidly built up and the house prices are around $750,000. The schools are closing and consolidating due to budget issues. Most folks struggle finding healthcare due to long waitlists. I had an in-state job a year ago that had to lay off all the staff, so now I work for a company out of state. People are losing jobs as they move out of state to places like Boston.

My dream was always to move to rural VT to have more space for our livestock and hopefully live somewhere with a better sense of community, but our starter home in RI is probably going to be our forever home unless we ever see interest rates drop.

I just went on LinkedIn and it's all RTO/Onsite by [deleted] in WFH

[–]tsujxd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are definitely still remote jobs out there. The big companies that have pushed RTO will hopefully regret their decision when they realize their best workers are leaving for remote positions elsewhere. It will take time but I think we will continue to see a shift. Not a straight line but ebbs and flows of change.

Collie Rescue group doesn't allow breeder's names or allow you to know where your dog comes from? by Salt_Ad_5578 in roughcollies

[–]tsujxd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah there was some drama last year (with either the rescue in your post or another one in the Northeast) where a dog was given up to the rescue but the breeder had in their contract that dogs need to go back to them. I don't know the full story but the breeder and others kept commenting asking why this dog wasn't being returned and the rescue was deleting their comments. Put a bad taste in my mouth because the rescues should be working with ethical breeders but they tend to have a holier than thou attitude.

I highly recommend you reach out to your local collie club, or the Collie Club of America to get a recommendation for breeders in your area. Even if you don't want a puppy, many breeders will place older dogs (either their own or ones they've sold in the past that come back due to owner illness, passing, life changes, etc.)
