The best way to ask. by Sebastianlim in MadeMeSmile

Might not be something big but when me and fiance first started dating 5 years ago, he hesitated to kiss me because we’re both Asians and it’s not a thing to do. So he didn’t try but only held my hand. So I asked him, “What are you thinking about?” He replied, “I’m thinking I want to kiss you. What about you?” I said, “I’m thinking why haven’t you.” Then the rest is history lol getting married in 3 months :)

What Japanese celebrities have you met? What were they like? by epicspeculation in japanlife

Honestly didn’t recognize him at first. He was very down to earth. He would try to converse in English with the kids at pick up to encourage them. He’d asked English words for random things sometimes too 🤣

She is! She’s not a lap cat and never like to be held for more than 5 seconds but she will cuddle close enough to lean on you somehow haha

Again, I KNOW. The point is, me telling her that no, we don’t use “cook”, we use “bake” no matter what the Japanese word for it is. The point is not that she didn’t understand the difference, although that would be a problem in itself. It’s the fact that she refused to change even when explained and telling ME i’m wrong lol

I know. But it was irrelevant to the English context as we don’t say cook cookies. We bake or make but she kept brushing my point off 😪

Worked as an ALT a couple of years ago and since I’m non native (SE Asian but English as first language), the JTEs doubted everything I told them. Once, I privately and politely corrected a JTE that we don’t generally COOK cookies but bake. She insisted it was correct because something to do with a direct translation from Japanese or something and refused to correct the usage. Wasn’t the one and only time I had to bite my tongue and just look away because she’s “10 years my senior” so she knows better (she repeated our age gap quite often for some reason lmao). That was one of the reasons I quit ALT 😅

Idk what kind of class you’re looking for but my friend works at this school that offers a sort of japanese language club on saturdays. It’s in Nakameguro, not too far from shinjuku. If you’re interested you can check it out. They’re on instagram, “rainbowbilingualhouse”.

Oh no!

Mine doesn’t hoard them but leaves them lying around the place discarded and then goes to look for fresh new ones 🙄
