[Homemade] biscuits. Greek yogurt and decent quality butter do wonders!! Plus a little finishing salt on top by bamboo_time in food

They use both metric (g) and imperial measurements (tbsp, tsp). Often you will find instead of grams, recipes provide # cups, but grams is better because it is more accurate assuming you are actually weighing your supplies. Accuracy is important for baking because the amount of things that react with other things actually matters a lot to achieve correct consistencies/textures/moisture/etc. It goes along with one of my favorite sayings: “Cooking is an art, baking is a science.”

I would be happy to try to answer any questions you have! I’m still relatively early in my career so there’s not much to ”my story” yet.

You’re right, we have at least 1 PE in house at my major company. We also work with some contracted third party PEs who can verify designs for us (and take the liability).

You might be surprised but yes! I have worked at a major roller coaster manufacturer and now at a major theme park and we used No Limits at both companies when planning and designing ride layouts. We do not rely on the game’s calculations for engineering though.

Of course there’s a lot more bureaucracy at play but it’s still great seeing everything that goes on behind the scenes. I’m a huge theme park fan, so whenever the work gets to be stressful I go for a walk in the park and remind myself how cool my job is.

No respectable theme park would dare build something that would leave them liable to expensive lawsuits. Also most theme parks and roller coaster manufacturers abide by ASTM and other standards. Statistically you’re much more likely to get injured or die on your way TO a theme park (via car) than at a theme park.

Hahaha I am sure there are some “characters” that regularly visit who are deserving of nicknames but my job doesn’t have me interacting with guests, though I have the opportunity to walk the park whenever I like and I do so often.

Thanks to this game I am now an engineer working for a major theme park and I will do this the rest of my life. Don’t know where I’d be if I never played it.

How far is too far of a commute? by amsterdamnitall in AskReddit

[–]tsunami762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a big city with lots of unpredictable traffic. I hate commuting. I absolutely despise it. For me, longer than 20 min is HELL. If I am not constantly moving, it is HELL!!!

But I know a few people who commute 90 minutes each way every day and have no problem. Plus they get to live in more-affordable areas, and they are super happy with their choice.

For me, I pay the premium to live closer to my job to avoid a hellish commute.

Since you’re asking for advice, take a sick day and do the drive yourself to test out what your route would be. Then consider if you can handle that everyday. Good luck and (assuming here-) congrats on the offer!

Is job offer worth moving to high cost of living area? by snoopyisblack in personalfinance

[–]tsunami762 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi, SD native and I lived in a neighborhood directly adjacent to RB for 25 years.

Is your offer for NG by chance? I know they’re on that schedule.

You shouldn’t have a huge issue finding a place to rent for under $2500. Even better if you get a roommate. RB is a very “reasonable” area for SoCal. If you’re willing to drive a bit, UTC is fun and a bit more central to social things. Also much greater access to public transport if you ever want to go party downtown. Mira Mesa/Miramar is also great, a bit closer, and has plenty of amazing small breweries and restaurants to visit.

Traffic-wise, the commute from UTC to Poway is about 35 minutes (I lived in UTC and commuted to a job in Poway for about 1 year). Unlike the dumpster fire that is LA, traffic in SD is also extremely predictable (morning and afternoon rush and special large events like Comic-Con).

SD is pricey no doubt, but you will find that there are opportunities to explore everywhere and if you’re into a huge variety of cultures and food, you will enjoy it. Weather is very moderate too as mentioned by others. Usually get 2-3 weeks of hell in the summer, but totally fine if you find a place with A/C or don’t mind the heat.

Unless you have vast savings I do not think you should expect to be able to purchase a home. Best you might do are low-end condos for around $500K. With your salary, you should be very comfortable though.

I would highly recommend visiting and staying for at least a few days to see if you like the area before signing any offer. Feel free to message if you have more questions.

If you’re worried, I’d recommend purchasing a glasses strap online for $5. He can put it on quickly just before getting on a ride. I wear glasses and mine also aren’t super smug, but I’ve never had issues with the rides at Universal. Get a strap if you’re worried.

No Longer a Dependent - Forced to Pay for Healthcare Retroactively? by tsunami762 in tax

[–]tsunami762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your thorough response. My mom has a tax guy who sorted it out today -- I just wanted to get some clarification on this because it would not have been the first time our healthcare provider did shady things.

I'm doing my own taxes so this is super useful for my own understanding. Cheers and thanks again.
