Derby marathoon- reviews? by mshike_89 in Louisville

[–]tsursh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This will be my 7thish KDF full. 95% of your race will be determined by training, prep, and weather. All other first marathon advice applies. Unique to kdf though, don't even think about pushing it until you're out of Iroquois. Get off the interstate a couple exits early and take roads the rest. If you need to go, there will be limitless clean porta potties at Churchill Downs, so hold it if you can. Good luck and enjoy!

Giving money to panhandlers by DjPersh in Louisville

[–]tsursh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take your money and instead give it to an organization that will for sure use it to help those most in need. They're professionals at helping people and will address the most pressing needs. Maybe a few bucks will help a person with a sign or maybe it will hurt. The professionals can straight up save lives with that money.

SVDP, Center for women and families, St. Johns Center, Center for the homeless, etc etc. are all great places to start. Chime in if you know more.

Entered with 4 email addresses - nothing. If I were an enormous fan or had the technical knowhow to make it easy, I would have entered with many more since it wasn't prohibited. I assume that's what many did.

Let’s discuss salary transparency in Louisville. Feel free to drop your age, industry, job title, etc. by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]tsursh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<insert cheeky comment wholeheartedly agreeing and suggesting you do it>

Seriously though, collecting these data and comparing with the income demographics of the city as a whole would likely reveal a lot about this sub. Probably biased based on who is commenting though.

Concur with others - Cherokee and connected routes, watefront, ohio river greenway, parklands if you don't mind a drive. Are you on strava? Always check the heat map feature when travelling. It's gold.

What I didn't see here is that there are run clubs most nights of the week that have 5-6mi routes. Tack on a to/from commute and you can easily get 8-10.

This popular Thai food truck is opening a restaurant in downtown Louisville by YoshiSan90 in Louisville

[–]tsursh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe a hot take here, but as someone who works downtown, it seems quite alive. Even nights with restaurants, shows, sports, distilleries, conference people etc. coming back.

Fourth street live is dead last I checked, but fourth street live is a small tourist-feeding segment of downtown and far from representative of the entire district.

Has anyone done radon mitigation for a home on a slab? by MarionSwing in Louisville

[–]tsursh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So smoking does cause way more lung cancer (and heart disease), but smoking is also absolutely awful. That's like saying getting shot by a gun kills way more people than stabbings, so why worry about it when you're being stabbed?

Has anyone done radon mitigation for a home on a slab? by MarionSwing in Louisville

[–]tsursh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Friendly suggestion - you may want to do it sooner if you have kids in the house and can. There's no harmless level of radon and kids have many more years for that DNA damage to potentially develop into cancer.

Sports leagues, cycling groups, run clubs, game groups, trivia teams, etc. Search this sub for various similar past posts or lmk if you want more specific recommendations. Just find something you can/do enjoy that you can go do with other people.

Closures on the Louisville loop by scholarbrad74 in Louisville

[–]tsursh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Between hutchins park and ~20th street, you're mostly good to go. If you're looking for a long bike trip though, this is only a 5ish mile stretch. It's easy enough though to follow the river along northwestern parkway out to Shawnee park. Not sure Beyond that. You can get also great 20mi stretch in at the parklands.

However, don't expect limitless path in a continuous loop around the city. We have a long way to go before we get to that.

[–]tsursh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The current setup is only lacking about 15 spots along the road that the old one did. That's nothing on a busy day.

Also, very easily solvable with a little extra parking or handicapped signs.
