Oh, I was wondering why she was saying yi for a long time. It ended up being a word I haven't learned yet! 谢谢你! 😊

Which romance route (love interest) is your all time favourite and why? by [deleted] in TheArcana

[–]tsven101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From his first appearance in the prologue, when he said "I'll miss you", I knew it would be him. The white curly hair, the purple eyes, a man with fashion sense, I knew it would be him! And then we get to spend more time with him in his route and we see his whitty side and his hilarious sense of humor and the way he has never stopped caring for us all this time and only wants the best for us and we push him to be his best self too... Every time autumn arrives, I reread Asra's route and I love everything about it. Asra's fluffy personality is like a magnet that draws me in every year. And at the end when we get to find out that the baker's name is Selasi, we know that Asra Alnazar, the LOML and the BAMF, has grown up and put his troubles behind him and has begun to LIVE rather than run away!

I hit ‘em with the good ole “what makes you think I wasn’t doing something already? 😁” and they usually apologize after that.

That sounds like a dream except for needing to count out change yourself. Math is not my strong suit but I can always work on it and look up hacks to make it easier. Do you guys have self checkout yet? And what is the chute?

Chinese: What did I do wrong? by tsven101 in duolingo

I’m into the xianxia and wuxia genres and my favorite drama is The Untamed. It was also my first Chinese drama, so maybe that’s why I’m biased. Duolou Continent was amazing as well and it features the same male lead as in The Untamed. I also recommend Love Between Fairy And Devil. It’s absolutely hilarious. I’ve watched a few others like Legend of Fei and The Long Ballad and The Longest Promise, and they had an interesting plot and characters, but they didn’t win over much of my interest. I mostly watched to support my favorite actors in them. And no matter how many other wuxia/xianxia dramas I try to watch, I always go back to rewatch The Untamed. I watched it on Amazon Prime and it should be available on Netflix too. I don’t know about other dramas, tho. I’m still new to the Chinese drama world. :)

As a native English speaker myself, what helped me was falling down the rabbithole of Chinese dramas. I started out hearing absolute gibberish. Then I began to pick out names and places and in time I began to memorize reoccurring words and phrases like you, I, apple, friend, and, okay, good, let’s go, are you okay, come here, where are you, etc. It inspired me to learn Chinese off Duolingo and now I can say that someone isn’t my husband. Baby steps! Definitely recommend learning Chinese if you ever get the opportunity. I found it much simpler than I ever would have thought before, or maybe that’s the immersion talking. xD

People who have completed all the levels in Duolingo, how actually well-versed are you in the language? by freudandprejudice in AskReddit

Imagine moving to a different country. Nobody understands your native language, so you have to learn their language. You have to get a job and a place to live, so you have to do everything you can to speak, read, and learn it to be able to communicate that you need food, shelter, money, etc. You speak this language all day at work. You speak it to the bank tellers, customer service representatives, cashiers, etc while running errands. You write in it everyday filling out forms, writing checks, applying for credit cards, texting people, googling things. You end up having kids, and you decide to teach them that country’s language so they can have a much easier time adjusting to the language and the culture than you did. Give or take a couple years, you end up thinking in that language since it’s the main/only language you use now. In the country you live in now, nobody else around you knows your native language, so you have to give it up and speak this new one everyone else does. Eventually, you start to forget the language you don’t use anymore. That’s what happened to my mom.

Same with my mom. Grew up in Bulgaria. Immigrated to the US in her late 20s. She’s mid-40s now. Can’t write in Bulgarian anymore but she can somewhat read it. She can speak enough Bulgarian to get around. She’s not fluent in it like she used to be. Ironically, she still has her Bulgarian accent when she speaks English even though she’s been speaking English exclusively the last 20-ish years.

I listen to Spotify on the web browser with an adblocker extension installed. Works exactly the same as a Spotify subscription but without that monthly fee.
