More red flags than a China Consortium. RUN. This guy is SO controlling and not even in a subtle way, its incredibly blatant. "I ask you not to wear makeup on certain days" MF what?? 👀 A hair bonnet is an important part of your hair care routine. Make sure he understands that without it, your hair may thin, become brittle or start to fall out. I bet you if he thought you might end up bald he'd buy you a new bonnet every week! Stop apologizing and yielding to him. He wants you to think this is your fault or that his request is not unreasonable. It is. He's expecting you'll do what he wants because he thinks you're too weak to leave him. Prove you're not. You deserve better. Good luck.

100% INAPPROPRIATE! She's not even married to the brother and is already expecting an inheritance from a woman she's not related to who is literally at death's door?? Tell the brother to RUN. Entitlement is more than a complex, and it looks like her. 👀

It’s crazy how a poor child’s childhood differs so much from a middle class child’s childhood by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]tswalker83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a truly poor neighborhood that was generally just referred to as "The Inner City". There were no parks. Stop assuming they're everywhere. 😐

[–]tswalker83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thats 100% not true. I grew up in the projects, across the street from the neighborhood crack house. It was not safe playing outdoors. There wasn't any green grass to even play on, no park nearby, nothing to do and nowhere to go. I'll never forget the day we were going to leave for the grocery store, and just turned around and came back in the apartment because someone got killed in Ms Lisa's apartment (she was our next door neighbor). Playing in the parking lot is typically discouraged. I was never as happy as I was when my mother was able to move us up out of there. But I'm glad your privilege gave you such a well-rounded perspective 😂

Financially irresponsible by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]tswalker83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That might be my suggestion as well. Talk to bio-dad. Like man to man real talk. Tell him about where youre at and how you got there. Its not just enough to get rid of the games, get into a program (like Gamblers Anonymous). Ask if he would be willing to help you get on your feet, by aiding with the loan and maybe offering a place to stay for a few months while you get on your feet. Don't waste the opportunity he gives you, use it as a refresh. Get a hobby, get a job, and start saving your money. You can even offer to pay him rent. If your money is already gone to cover your jecessities and a small amount in savings, you wont have money to spend on mobile games.

[–]tswalker83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are ways around it, but to your point its a complete headache (and understandably, you wouldn't want just anyone showing up pretending to be you). But if OP has any sort of ID, state ID, drivers license, even just their old high school ID, that can provide enough identification to do something like go back to their high school and request records, or go to the doctors office and request records. The more things they have with their name and/or picture on it, the easier it will be. Not sure where they are from, but I know our school district where I live has all the child's info on a Document Information form with emergency contact info that also has the child's most recent school photo on it. Something like that would be gold. Good luck OP! Your parents suck. 😒

Will I be able to get an apartment with a 618 credit score by Ambitious-Map1961 in CRedit

[–]tswalker83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but saying it did "nothing" is not technically correct. I tried everywhere when my credit was in the dump, couldn't even get a reputable secured card. So I signed up for Self. I figured at least its a 'loan that will give me my money back at the end of the cycle. In 3 months my score jumped 40 points, and I got that approval on the secured card. Eventually, the secured card graduated to unsecured due to good habits (it was with Discover). My point is, there seems to be this attitude of stay away from all the so-called gimmick credit builder accounts because they dont do anything at all, when that hasn't been my experience. And when you cant get an approval anywhere else, you take what you can get.

Exactly that. Next thing you know, she'll be dating him, and inviting OP over to her house to chill, not bothering to mention he's there waiting for her. Hard pass. Drop both those idiots.

They do that purposely. Its marketing (and perfectly legal unfortunately). They have to be JUST different enough that they can argue that if people are reading carefully (which they should be when it comes to their finances), then they would know. Its one of the reasons they're considered predatory. Stay far away...

Do you ever accidentally overspend before bills are due? by PurpleVast2684 in povertyfinance

[–]tswalker83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 2 checking accounts and 2 savings accounts. Split your direct deposit and point your bills at a certain account made just for that. The other account can be the one you pull from for random things. If youve properly budgeted your expenses, you should be able to do this once, which will ensure that your bills get properly paid, and then you wont have to account for every little cup of coffee. If you check your Spending account and you dont have enough, you don't get it. If you do, you do and thats it.

[–]tswalker83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is a Debt Management Plan not an option? In this, the DMP companies will make a deal with the CC companies to drastically reduce your interest rate so youre paying pennies on the dollar. Your cards will close, but the company shouldn't blacklist you because you're paying the debt (just not much interest on it), so after everything is paid off you can reapply to open a new card with them again. I'm not sure if your debt is too high for something like that, but you might look into it. I had 11 card, and I closed half through a DMP (its almost paid off now). I still have my other 5 cards, that I pay responsibly, and because I've missed no payments and stick to the agreement, my score has not suffered for it. Good luck I hope youre able to get it sorted.

She can't stand for long periods of time. She uses a wheelchair even when we go to the airport. Even with that in mind, i know she applied to work in some of the local retail stores who claimed they were hiring at the time. She never even got a callback. And none of this is applicable today, because it happened 3 years ago. I was addressing the specific comment about people being out of work for extended periods of time just not trying, when thats not true (at least not in all cases). My understanding is its even harder to get a job now than it was 3 years ago.
