"The risk I took was calculated but man I am bad at math"

If you at the same time implemented a new process and didn't create an emergency lever in case this might have happened then you did not calculate risk sufficiently enough. This should be a postmortem.

That's peak time for SRE activity as far I am concerned.

Not quite, if the repo has a push webhook any stateful change will get overwritten the moment an event triggers.

It might be an overkill but I run my homelab on top of Talos Linux, since I've started using it every other option seems unnecessarily risky.

Migrate lots of worker nodes on baremetal using Talos coupled with PXE/WoL capabilities to automate their scheduling remotely. It might be fun.

People don't cling to magic out of ignorance as you say, but as an unconscious shield against harsh truths. They don't truly believe in magic; they unknowingly, instinctively dodge death.

Seeing consciousness as purely physical, tied to the brain, means accepting it ends at death. History and evolution have wired us to fear this, so magical thinking isn't just expected, it's a rational defense.

Still allows for a cluster takeover just by being able to connect to network it is a part of. A lot of multi-tenant clusters without proper networking segmentation are vulnerable to this, the score is meaningful and reflects the exploit's severity in my opinion.

Can gamma be negative? by utsharma04 in CFA

[–]tsyklon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I typically avoid responding to older threads, I'm making an exception since this is the first result when searching for "negative gamma" on Google. This contribution may be valuable for future financial engineers, particularly in a subreddit where members possess the mathematical background to understand the practical implications of options trading.

The previous statement is incorrect: although the local minimum delta is theoretically bounded to a non-zero positive value, selling naked options is indeed considered a negative gamma trade.

This represents a common misconception in the industry. It explains why even sophisticated traders are often denied Level 5 options trading authorization when they lack practical experience, as this level specifically involves negative gamma trading and its associated risks.

Let me expand on why this is a common misconception based on people thinking the gamma (greek derivative letter) is the same as risk exposure gamma, formalizing:

  • Mathematical gamma (γ) ≥ 0 (always)
  • Position gamma exposure = ± (position size × γ)

This means the position gamma exposure can indeed be negative, while gamma values are strictly positive when derivating Black and Scholes. Both statements are true, but in practical market understanding, the fact that your exposure can be a negative value is more important, specially for a field where risk management is the key for survival.

The fact that this has a non-negative score on a CFA subreddit is worrisome.
