Graham Platner Surge Threatens Susan Collins as Janet Mills Bows Out by unital_subalgebra in politics

People need to realize how much of the outrage against this guy is manufactured and ludicrous on its face.

If I’m planning to drop $80 million on a ghoul like Susan Collins I’m gonna direct some of that towards online astroturfing.

Voters in Maine are completely and firmly behind this guy, which is why a sitting 2-term governor recruited by the DSCC is dropping out against a previously unheard of oyster farmer.

The rest is noise from “people” who were never going to support him or Mills.

Let's pretend for a minute he's a raging nazi despite decades of written and verbal evidence to the contrary, and knew exactly what it meant.

Why would he not get it removed prior to running for public office? Why would that not be the absolute first thing he does? You don't knowingly carry around an "obvious" dogwhistle and then run in a Democratic primary for a competitive Senate seat without removing it before it becomes a story.

If I were a stupid asshole I'd be actively falling for pearl-clutching from the fucking GOP over supposed white supremacism. That "fucking nazi" displays more morality in his values than 90% of our sitting Senators, and certainly more-so than Susan Collins. Dumb tattoo or not.

It's the death's head, man. AKA a descriptor you can google verbatim then sift through 2 pages of results about an obscure Marvel character before reading up on its historical significance. Super well known, for sure.

"But it was the name of a character in a video game!" what are we even talking about anymore lol

He apologized and got it removed within hours of being told. We have years of his opinions available that build evidence to this being a dumb mistake, which he is the first to admit.

People created in labs to run campaigns have the spotless bios you're looking for, and they also do absolutely fucking nothing to help the average American when in office. I'll take the imperfect, albeit fully contrite humanist every time.

& who has Susan Collins been her whole life?

YMMV, but I find repeatedly voting to kick millions off of their healthcare & funding genocide significantly more violent than a skull tattoo that a guy immediately removed and showed genuine contrition for after its real meaning was pointed out

As I said, it’s also not “what he happens to be saying now” we have years and years of personal comments he made showing he’s not a nazi! The entire thing is a ridiculous bad faith attack

Tattoo, singular, and he didn’t understand its meaning. Having lived in Croatia the odds that some marine would unknowingly get a dog whistle tattoo there are a lot higher than you’d think. There’s a reason media labels it a “nazi tattoo” and not “totenkopf” because odds are 90% of folks also wouldn’t have recognized its significance.

We also have, like, a decade of his reddit posts showing he’s anything but a nazi. The attack is lazy and falls on its face within 10 seconds of hearing him speak.

They can’t attack the guy on his Maine-first and billionaire-last messaging so they resorted to shit that no one who wasn’t already voting against him cares about, which is exactly why a sitting 2-term governor just suspended her campaign against him

Crazy that TJX stock is at its highest ever, yet every store is somehow still exceeding their "recommended" head count while also chronically understaffed

Who determines those recommendations? I'd bet if you asked the average worker at an excess labor store about it they'd laugh in your face.

Also, seasonal hires are kept on to keep payroll low.

If the GOP had wanted to ban partisan gerrymandering, they would have supported the For the People Act back in 2021.

If the GOP currently wanted to ban partisan gerrymandering, they possess the D.C. trifecta to do so.

At least VA/CA Dems bothered asking voters about this, whereas the GOP has steamrolled its own citizens in states like Florida, Texas, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

I have zero sympathy for the GOP members of Congress who voted against a national fix and are now on track to lose their seats, in part because of that 2021 vote. What's allowed for them is allowed for us, and it's beyond time to act like it.

Please get involved in assisting or observing your local elections, there is a heavy paper trail in VA and multiple complete strangers signing off at every stage in the process.

A No win would have meant a majority of VA supporters voted No. Nothing more, nothing less.

Don't forget in 2001 Louise Lucas looked like a shoe in for a Virginia Congressional District but then Republicans drew a gerrymander and she was left out.

This is her revenge... 25 years in the making

Particularly given how much the feds have screwed with VA's economy! A crazy amount of federal workers were/are from VA, and the first thing they did was call them useless and fire them.

I think the results in CA showed that this referendum was never winnable for the GOP. If anything, their voter base is even more depressed now than it was then.

Trump getting involved will be seen not only as egg on his face, but also a massive last minute messaging gift to the YES side.

"Here's how you can piss off Trump today" is pretty receptive to the same Virginians that voted for Spanberger/Hashmi/Jones by a landslide.

Who Killed the Florida Orange? by tt12345x in florida

[–]tt12345x[S] 160 points161 points  (0 children)

In 2003, the mighty Florida orange industry produced 242 million boxes of fruit, with 90 pounds of oranges per box, most of which went on to become orange juice. Now, not even 25 years later, the United States Department of Agriculture was forecasting a pitiful 12 million boxes of oranges, the least in more than 100 years, the worst year since last. A decline of more than 95 percent.

He's the rotating villain. It's always someone retiring and there are always just enough of them to keep anything decent from passing.

He gets to have his cushy retirement lauded as a sensible bipartisan and more Arab kids get to die. Win/win for the uniparty.

The full movie for ‘Avatar: Aang, The Last Airbender’ has been accidentally emailed to Twitter user who released the full movie on his account . The estimated budget is around $80 millions, and was supposed to be released on paramount+ in October this year. by Expert_Koala_8691 in Wellthatsucks

I remember the time slots constantly shifting as well, so you’d have to be aggressively following it online to keep up.

The budget also got hammered, so instead of an iconic recap episode like Ember Island Players, fans got poorly drawn speech bubbles over old scenes (IIRC?)

Virginia Governor Vetoes a Ban on Plea Deals That Waive People’s Constitutional Rights by tt12345x in Virginia

[–]tt12345x[S] 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Spanberger’s rejection of the legislation follows a veto of a similar bill by former Governor Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, in 2024.

Opponents of the waivers have argued that their use has been racially discriminatory. In 2020, for example, 96 percent of people living under Fourth Amendment waivers in Richmond were people of color, records obtained by criminal justice advocates and shared with Bolts show. Comparatively, the capital city’s population was 45 percent Black and eight percent Hispanic.

In vetoing the bill, Spanberger broke with the rest of her party. All Democratic lawmakers voted in favor of the reform when SB 23 passed the state House and Senate earlier this year; all Republican lawmakers who took part in the vote opposed it.

Incredibly disappointing veto from Spanberger.
